3 REITZ-SCHWEIZ state-of-the-art radial fans are manufactured at the moment of delivery. Extensive testing of materials, functions and quality ensures high usage and long operating life. However, danger may arise from these fans if operated incorrectly by untrained personnel or used inappropriately. Read these operating instructions carefully before starting up the radial fan! - Only operate the fan in the installed location or with correctly assembled protective grids (we can deliver approved protective grids on demand). - Assembly, electrical connections, servicing and commissioning should only be carried out by trained specialists. - Only operate the fan in the approved manner within the performance limits (see type plate) and with the designated medium. In the presence of explosive atmospheres observe the corresponding specifications and safety requirements of the country of operation 2. Description (Standard execution) A) Special features: - Very compact and robust cast aluminium housing - Match the impeller geometry and material to the respective installation - Total pressure increase up to 4.5 kpa B) Applications: - Multivarious blowing and sucking applications - Specially suitable for blowing and sucking when mounted directly on machines and equipment - Pneumatic conveying of granular or shredded kinds of light substances (only TKV) - Extraction installations of all kinds (only TKV) 3

4 C) Execution: - Impeller in aluminium alloy, dynamically balanced (MKV/TKV ) - Impeller in steel (MKV/TKV 025) - Housing in cast aluminium alloy - Standard motor B5, protection type IP 55, insulation class F - For fans intended for explosive atmospheres, it is possible to make the contact points between rotating and stationary parts of materials offering a reduced risk of inflammability through friction or struck sparks (VDMA 24169) - Various accessories are provided - Special executions on demand D) Installation conditions: REITZ-SCHWEIZ radial fans in standard execution are suitable for the handling of: clean air air containing little dust or grease light bulk substances (TKV) slightly aggressive gases and steam mediums with a maximum density up to 1.3 kg/m 3 mediums with a temperature of -30 C to +80 C (to 200 C in special applications) mediums with a maximum humidity up to 95 % combustible gases of temperature classes T1 - T4 as well as explosive atmospheres of zones 1 and 2 (only in protected execution) The ambient temperature of the drivemotor must be between -30 and +40 C 3. Assembly Asssembly and electrical work must only be carried out by trained personnel in accordance with the respective specifications The sucking and blowing openings should be protected against foreign bodies falling in or being sucked in by safety grids in accordance with DIN or DIN The fan should be checked for damage during transport. Damaged fans should not be assembled. 4

5 8 Fixing of the fan to the feet provided for this (accessories) 8 Assembly of the connection leads to the flange of the fan ATTENTION: Do not stress the fan! 8 On assembly to the oscillation damper, flexible joining sockets must be installed 8 Preferred installation location ATTENTION: In locations where there is a danger of objects falling into the cooling vanes of the drive motor, it is recommended that a protective grid be fitted 8 Electrical connection of the motor in accordance with the manufacturer s drawings and the specifications of the locality 8 A motor safety switch is provided to protect against overloading of the motor and featuring an adjustable tripping current facility in case there is not already a cold conductor on the coil or bimetal temperature sensor which act via an approved tripping device Use only approved packing couplings The motor safety override using a cold conductor or bimetal temperature sensor precisely determines all non-normal operating conditions or extreme influences and cuts off the motor from the mains supply reliably in the event of a disturbance. The cold conductor is not at the mains voltage. On the switch side, a re-setting device is provided. In dangerous locations, all conducting parts must be connected to a potential equalization system. Before checking the sense of rotation: Remove foreign bodies from the area of the fan Turn the impeller by hand and check for smooth running Check the sense of rotation with respect to the housing through short pulse-like switching on and off Reverse the sense of rotation possibly by swapping the two phases 5

6 4. Operation Only trained personnel should start up the fan while observing the specifications and instructions in force. Only accept the fan after correct assembly in line with the instructions and specifications for operation. The fan is designed for continuous operation. If large air volumes have to be moved, the current rating may be exceeded. Thermal motor safety overrides may then be tripped. On first commissioning, check: 4 correct mechanical assembly 4 correct electrical installation 4 protective grid assembled or fan installed outside dangerous areas 4 correctly installed leads 4 quiet running of fan and bearings 4 current rating of the motor in accordance with the data plate 4 heating of the motor through possible overloading 4 correct functioning of the air supply 5. Servicing In normal operation, our fans do not need servicing. When used to the limits of performance, simple servicing may be required. The ball bearings are lubricated for life. For standard applications, this amounts to approximately: operating hours at 1000 rpm, operating hours at 1500 rpm, operating hours at 3000 rpm Independently of this, the ball bearings should be exchanged every 5 years because of the modification of the lubricant. Only use approved spare parts from ourselves. Only thoroughly trained personnel should carry out servicing while observing the instructions and specifications: - bring the fan to a standstill and cut off from the mains supply on all poles - secure against being switched on 6

7 Change impeller - Disassemble the fan housing - Remove the safety screw from the shaft - Draw off the impeller from the shaft but in no case striking with a tool as this could damage the motor or the bearing - Mount new impeller - Fit the safety screw on the front side of the shaft - Re-assemble and seal the fan housing again Change motor - Cut off the electrical connections of the motor from the mains supply - Disassemble the fan housing - Remove the impeller ( Change impeller) - Remove the motor fixing screws and remove the motor - Assemble the new motor - Assemble the impeller ( Change impeller) - Re-assemble and seal the fan housing again - Connect the electrical motor connections to the mains supply Check correct assembly - The impeller must turn freely - Check the clearances between the rotating and the fixed parts - The minimum clearance must be at least 1% of the impeller outer diameter but must not be smaller than 2 mm - Check the correct sense of rotation ( Assembly) Clean fan Only use normal commercial detergents while observing the above-mentioned safety measures and use no scratching or scraping tools. (the surface protection would be destroyed) Our service personnel are the best equipped for servicing and repairs and are readily available to you.
