Introduction Weld Neck Slip On Type Jotg Method General Description Used critical applications. These are circumferentially welded onto the system at their necks which means that the tegrity of the butt-welded area can easily be examed by X-ray radiography. The bores of both pipe and flange match thus reducg turbulence and erosion. This is slipped over the pipe and then fillet welded. Easy to use fabricated applications. Flanges Introduction Bld Sometimes called a blankg flange, this is used for blankg off pipeles, valves and pumps and as an spection cover. Socket Weld This is counter-bored to accept the pipe, which is then fillet welded. The bore of both the pipe and the flange are the same to ensure good flows. Screwed/Threaded This requires no weldg and is used to connect other threaded components low pressure noncritical applications. Lap Jot Rg Type Jot These are always used with either a stub end or a taft which is butt-welded to the pipe with the flange loose behd it. Thus the stub end or the taft always provides the sealg face. Easily assembled and aligned, it is favoured low pressure applications. To reduce cost these backg flanges can be supplied without a hub and/or made from coated carbon steel. This can be employed on Weld Neck, Slip On or Bld Flanges for leak-proof connection at high pressures. The seal is made by a metal rg beg compressed to a hexagonal groove on the flange face. 5-
Introduction Flanges Introduction Type Plate or Table (BS 0:962) General Description These are produced to suit Nomal Bore/NPS Pipe Sizes. They are produced from bar or plate rather than forggs and are not pressure-rated. Bld and Slip-On, flat-faced, types are readily available grades 0L and L sizes from /2 to 6 as Table D and Table E, with larger sizes and other Tables (thicknesses) made to order. These economical flanges are used for light-duty applications where corrosion resistance is the primary consideration rather than high pressure or temperature. BS EN 092 Part Also referred to as PN Flanges (Formerly BS50) These are not terchangeable with ANSI Flanges. They are readily available types 0L and L with various pressure ratgs of which 0 Bar & Bar are the most coonly used. Metric ND/DN Please refer to formation about the Metric ND product range section 7. Hygienic Please refer to formation about the Hygienics product range section 6. Flange faces Of the four choices available the most coon configurations are: For ANSI and BS EN 092 Raised Face BS 0 Flat Face. Note that this does not apply to Screwed or Lap Jot Flanges. Type Raised Face Flat Face Rg Type Jot (RJT) Tongue & Groove Small or Large To facilitate weldg General Description For leak-proof connection at high pressures Fish The fish is given as a surface roughness measured as Arithmetic Average Roundness Height (AARH). The fish requirements are stipulated by the standards, such as ANSI B.5 and are with the range 5AARH to 500AARH, which is equivalent to.2 to.5 Ra. 5-2

Specifications - ASTM A/AM Flanges Specifications - ASTM A/AM Forged or rolled alloy steel pipe flanges, forged fittgs, and valves and parts for high temperature service This specification covers forged low alloy and staless steel pipg components for use pressure systems. These clude flanges, fittgs, valves and similar parts manufactured to dimensional standards such as ASME/ANSI. Products made to this specification are limited to a maximum weight of 0,000 lb (,50 kg). Note - Although low allow steels are covered by this standard, only staless steels (martensitic, ferritic, austenitic and duplex) are cluded this suary. Dimensions and tolerances Dimensions and tolerances. ASME/ANSI specifications B.5 and B. are referenced. Flange dimensions and tolerances (see page 5-). Manufacture Materials. Refer to chemical composition table (staless steel grades only shown). Elements not specified the table are not permitted, specifically selenium or other elements added for free-machg properties. The steel may be melted by electric-furnace, or vacuum-furnace, or by either of these followed by vacuum or electroslag-consumable remeltg. Vacuum meltg or remeltg is not suitable for grades contag or modified by nitrogen. Grade F XM-27Cb may be electron-beam melted. Manufacture. The steel is forged or rolled as near as possible to size and shape of the product. Small cyldrical parts (excludg flanges) may be mached directly from forged or rolled bar without additional hot workg (limits defed ASTM A2 apply for martensitic steels, A0 for austenitic steels and A5 for duplex steels). Elbows, returns and tees are not mached directly from bar. Heat treatment. Refer to heat treatment table. Heat treatment of forggs may be performed before machg. For martensitic and ferritic grades, liquid quench followed by temperg is permitted, subject to purchaser agreement. Small cyldrical parts (excludg flanges) mached directly from forged or rolled austenitic steel may be furnished annealed to this specification with subsequent light cold drawg or straighteng permitted. Markg. Each forgg is marked with manufacturers name, heat number (or heat identification), designation of service ratg, specification number, grade (e.g. F0) and size. Additionally: QT = Liquid quenched and tempered W = Welded WNS = Not post repair weld heat treated. Fish and repair Appearance. Forggs have a workmanlike fish and shall be free of scale, machg burns and jurous, imperfections (i.e. those that encroach on mimum wall thickness). Defect repair by grdg or machg. The followg may be removed: Surface discontuity as above. Mechanical marks, abrasions or pits deeper than / (.6). Defect repair by weldg: Permitted unless purchaser prohibits. Defect removal by chippg or grdg is verified by magnetic particle spection. Repair is limited to 0% of surface area and /% of nomal wall thickness. Repair weldg electrodes and post weld repair heat treatments are defed A but are not detailed this suary. 5-0
