3 THERMA TUBE preinsulated pipes and fittings 1. GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE USE OF PREINSULATED PIPES AND FITTINGS THERMA TUBE preinsulated pipes and fittings of are produced by an international top manufacturer and are used in the construction of heating and cooling networks, which serve to transmit heating medium from the source of power to the place of delivery. Preinsulated pipes and fittings can work at the temperature of up to 149ºC with the possibility of exceeding this temperature by up to 150ºC over 100 hours at one single time with operating pressure of up to 2,5 MPa. THERMA TUBE preinsulated pipes and fittings can be installed for transmission of utility hot and cold water, steam and other media in building engineering (general, housing and industry sectors). THERMA TUBE preinsulated pipes and fittings are a combined construction consisting of a steel Main pipe located centrally in a protective coat made of polyethylene (PE) of high density and polyurethane (PUR) thermal insulation filling up the space between the pipes. In standard production, pipes are 6 and 12 metres long with (DN) of up to 1000 mm. Ends of THERMA TUBE preinsulated pipes and fittings are not insulated within the length of 150 mm (±) 20mm for s of up to DN 200, and within the length of 200 mm (±) 30mm for s of DN 250 and greater. THERMA TUBE preinsulated pipes and fittings meet the requirements of the following standards: PN EN 253, PN EN 448, PN EN 488, PN EN 489, PN EN Heat distribution network System of preinsulated combined pipes for water heat distribution networks placed directly in ground, and EN Designing and construction of heat distribution networks with a system of combined preinsulated pipes. Usability of the product commercially available under the name: THERMA TUBE preinsulated pipes and fittings with a steel Main pipe for underground heating networks in building engineering has been approved based on Technical Approval N o AT/ issued by the Research and Development Centre of Installation System Engineering INSTAL in Warsaw. Usability of the product commercially available under the name: THERMA TUBE preinsulated pipes and fittings with a galvanized steel Main pipe for underground networks has been approved based on Technical Approval N o AT/ issued by the Research and Development Centre of Installation System Engineering INSTAL in Warsaw. A catalogue of preinsulated pipes and fittings with galvanized steel Main pipe constitutes a separate document. 3

4 THERMA TUBE preinsulated pipes and fittings 2.SPECIFICATION OF MATERIALS USED IN PRODUCTION OF THERMA TUBE PREINSULATED PIPES AND FITTINGS Main pipe. A Main pipe is an attested steel pipe: with a seam P 235 GH acc. to PN EN or PN EN seamless P 235 GH acc. to PN EN yield point tensile strength density guaranteed leak tightness 235 MPa MPa 7850 kg/m 3 5 MPa The outside surface of pipes is cleaned by means of shot peening in order to increase adhesion of the polyurethane foam (PUR). Ends of a steel Main pipe are prepared for welding by means of bevelling. Thermal insulation. Insulation is made of rigid polyurethane foam (PUR) which equally fills up the spaces between the pipes within the whole length of a pipeline. A protective mantle is made of polyethylene (PE) according to the requirements of the PN EN 253 standard: density 945 kg/m 3 yield point 19 MPa ultimate elongation 350 % thermal conductivity factor λ 50 > 0,43 W/mK Internal surface of polyethylene pipes is activated in order to improve adhesion of hard polyurethane foam. 3. PIPELINE LEAK DETECTION SYSTEM THERMA TUBE preinsulated pipes and fittings can be equipped with an installation of a pipeline leak detection system. The installation consists of wires which are built in the thermal insulation. The system monitors the entire length of a pipeline and signalises any places of thermal insulation moistness. 4. GENERAL RULES OF INSTALLING PREINSULATED PIPES IN GROUND Preinsulated pipes and fittings are placed directly in ground in narrow excavations on at least 10 cm thick sand beds. Before steel Main pipes are welded, elements of joint assembly providing thermal insulation need to be installed at each joint. After Main pipes have been welded and all leak tightness tests have been conducted, thermal insulation and joint airtight sealing need to be completed. A ready network made of preinsulated pipes is subject to technical acceptance. After that, it is backfilled with sand (at least 10 cm above the upper surface of pipes surface). The sand bed and backfilling must be thickened in order to provide uniform conditions of work for a pipeline. Having stabilised the backfilling, the entire part of an excavation should be filled in with subsoil. Minimum covering of a pipeline is 40 cm. 5. QUALITY ASSURANCE Designing, development processes, manufacture, delivery, installation and service of THERMA TUBE preinsulated pipes and fittings for underground heating networks are supervised by quality and environmental management systems which meet all the requirements of PN EN ISO 9001:2001 and PN EN ISO 14001:2005. The CERTIFICATE OF QUALITY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS No. JS 96/3/2006, issued by the Polish Centre of Research and Certification in Warsaw, proves that our products and services fulfil all requirements of the above mentioned standards. 5
