Activities NELI develops border zone logistics, research in the field of transportation and logistics, transportation methods and technical solutions for logistics companies. NELI generates cooperation, new business opportunities, new service concepts and traffic strategies. Main focus areas of the institute are marine and port operations, road and railway transport and cross-border activity. NELI generates project ideas, actively participates in project planning with partners, coordinates projects and acts as a project partner. NELI projects derive from concrete needs from the business sector and a sincere interest to develop logistics operations. NELI offers consultation by conducting studies and reports to meet a wide range of customer needs.

Ongoing projects 1/2 RENEWTECH - Wind power technology and business operation developing in Southern Finland in 2011-2013 Goals of the project include recognizing the synergy in transportation and logistics of wind power components, raw materials and project cargo handling, optimizing Port of HaminaKotka Industry harbor logistics system to project handling and a survey on the availability of lifting capacity in the Baltic Sea region. Although RENEWTECH concentrates on wind power all the results of the project will be applicable in other industries. SULOIN- Sustainable logistics solutions through international networking Create cooperation models among international logistics companies and logistics development organizations International benchmarking regarding forest and food industry supply chains and distribution systems Project started on 1.1.2011, funding from ERDF TL5 program confirmed 870 000 euros / 3 years

Ongoing projects 2/2 Mobile Port - MOPO The main focus is on future processes and mobile ICT applications of port logistics (sea port). Also transportation systems (intermodale) and interfaces connecting the sea ports with dry ports and border area (Russia) are studied. The aim is to update and innovate efficient but flexible processes and control systems for the logistics and transportation within and between the different nodes of the network. Project in process, ICT system under construction, report published 2010 800 000 euros / 2 years

Finished projects 1/2 RAMAPOT Study of passenger and freight potential in Kotka-Sillamäe sea traffic Feasibility study of Kotka-Sillamäe sea line Regionalization process of the Finnish transportation authorities Consultation report for relocating the new office for transportation safety in Kymenlaakso TUULA wind energy logistics Consultation and international benchmarking report for locating the new production plant of wind mills and generators to Hamina Port Pre-study of logistics database Pre-study was conducted during 2011 and it focused on defining the potential users and the contents of the logistics database system. As a result of the pre-study a project plan covering the database implementation phase has been created.

Finished projects 2/2 ELLO Increasing the competitiveness of the Southern Finland transport corridor The project aims for promoting the Finnish transportation route and for producing new information of economic performance, needs of customer industries and future business potential. Project has ended in April 2012, marketing campaign year 2011 Logistics barometer published semiannually Abt 1.8 million euros / 3 years
