9 Education Unit - Projects: SMARTCOMP Smart competitiveness for the Central Baltic region. Project aims to unite the maritime clusters of the region and to strengthen existing networks. CARING Cargo securing to prevent cargo damages on road, sea, rail and air, the project aims to tackle this problem by creating up-to-date learning material. METALS The objective of the METALS project is to research and analyze future maritime changes and needs of i.e. environmental issues, safety, maritime economy and protection of the workers. SeaTALK The objective of the SeaTALK project is to develop a set of Maritime English Training Modules for Maritime English and develop an infrastructure which can be used to develop a European Vocational Credit Transfer Scheme for Maritime English (ECVET). 8

12 Latest Research Projects LNG and Satakunta preliminary study Survey of the current and future global and domestic market of natural gas and LNG To find out the amount of potential consumption of LNG (both landbased and maritime demand) and to find out the business opportunities of liquefied natural gas in Satakunta region Clean Shipping Economics The aim is to apply the corporate social responsibility into shipping MariTime Hubs The project gathers information for best practises for the structural changes in the maritime industry in the EU 11

14 ESN, the Way Forward Most of the SPC s are participating in the project Co-financed by the European Commission Marco Polo programme Aim of the project Collection of shortsea market related data and information Collection of data and information related to new environmental regulations Promotion of Shortsea Shipping Environmental domain: the development of SSS in the SECA areas looking at the forthcoming sulphur directive in 2015, developments of LNG, use of scrubbers SECA-report To provide information for various target groups (e.g. industry and authorities), connected to shortsea shipping, on tools and measures to adapt to the new environmental regulations within the SECA SPC Finland 13
