INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY Description Digital Photography will explore electronic imaging through the use of digital cameras, scanners and printers. This course will cover basic technical information relating to the appropriate hardware and software used in electronic imaging and understanding basic photographic concepts and terminology. This course will also explore creative uses of digital photography as an art form. Students will incorporate the elements of art and principles of design that they have experienced in Introduction to Art. A digital camera and an appropriate media card are required. Unit 3 - Digital Organization, 4 weeks top Media Students will understand, select and apply media, techniques and processes communicate ideas consistently at a high level of effectiveness in at least one visual arts medium. recognize the use of research storage and organizational options for digital files. understand the value of organization. How can I organize my digital images? Where are the various locations to store digital files? What are the most effective ways to organize digital files? How are digital files backup up and stored? Transfer digital file from camera to computer Delete images from camera and computer Create and organize file in H drive Create contact sheet to use as a reference guide Burn a CD Transfer image to a thumb drive create organize and save a digital photographic library. apply elements of art and principles of design to photography. Unit 4 - Digital Manipulation, 10 weeks top Elements and Principles Students will understand and apply elements and organizational principles of Art. judge the effectiveness of different ways of using visual characteristics in conveying ideas. recognize the differences among available manipulative software programs. understand the various filters and manipulative techniques. recognize alternative manipulative methods. understand the functions of available printers. How can a photograph be manipulated to create a more powerful image? What tools can be used to manipulate a photograph? What programs can be used to manipulate a photograph? In Photoshop, how are layers used? What are the advantages and disadvantages of photo manipulation? How can photographic manipulation enhance an image? Manipulate Images Use scanner as a resource Combine and layer images Resize and Reformat images Use various filter and manipulative controls associated with Photoshop Print a Photograph use image editing software. connect, transfer and color manage photographs for successful output of images. integrate scanned images into photographs. control size and output of images.
