1 Digital Photography I From basic techniques to idea conceptualization and creative vision Session 1: 23/06/ /07/2015 Session 2: 21/07/ /07/2015 Course Description School: Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti Milano (NABA) Address: Via Darwin 20, Milan, Italy Phone: [email protected] Course Structure: 45 hours ECTS: 3 ECTS credits* *ECTS credits only awarded to university students or participants who are completing or have completed a university or academic study path TITLE - AREA PROFESSOR/S COURSE DESCRIPTION COURSE OBJECTIVES LEARNING OUTCOME Digital Photography I (Introduction Level) Paolo Borrelli Photography is one of the most up-to-date and important forms of expression and the digital camera can be used as a tool to evoke moods and emotions, reveal unexpected details or convey information. Throughout this intensive course students having an elementary knowledge of photography will be introduced to a more higher level involving a professional use of techniques and materials and aimed to help stimulating and developing their creativity and personal style. The course will range from the basics of optics and light (aperture, shutter speed, exposure), working procedures and photographic methods to a more in depth journey through the language (composition techniques), finally giving the students the skills of making creative imagery. Also image processing in Photoshop and output techniques will be covered during the course. The course will be focused on a project assignment given by the teacher and students will be often taken outside the classroom. Milan environment and all its visual details will become the ideal set to emphasize the students personal creative vision and experiment and put into practice the concepts learned throughout the lessons. The course aims at providing students with the necessary techniques, language ability and current overview to teach them how to use photography as a powerful tool to fulfill their expression purposes.
2 COURSE OUTPUT ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS A printed booklet showcasing the students project will be produced at the end of the course. Student will give also a presentation about their work. The course is conceived for newcomers working in different fields, artists, designers, architects whose aim is advancing their photographic knowledge and be involved in a more creative process. LIST OF MATERIALS AND TOOLS to The course requires: be brought by students - A reflex digital camera - A laptop - Basic knowledge of Photoshop - USB key and a card reader ATTENDANCE POLICY COURSE POLICY TEACHING METHODS BIBLIOGRAPHY and/or REFERENCE WEB SITES PROFESSOR S SHORT BIO Class attendance is required for successful completion of the course. Attendance will be taken every class period. On the last day of classes, instructors will issue a Certificate of successful attendance only to all students who completed at least 80% of the course. The Faculty of NABA takes Academic integrity seriously. Instances of academic dishonesty such as plagiarism won t be tolerated. Mobile phones will be kept switched off all the time during class. Use of laptop during classes for personal purposes is forbidden. Learning by doing: a mix of theoretical lessons, field trips and practical workshops. Paolo Borrelli Artist and graphic designer Paolo Borrelli was born in Milan in He took a degree at the Castello Sforzesco Upper Institute of Applied Arts, later graduating in Philosophy (aesthetic) at the local State University. A career in graphic design took flight through work with publishing houses and agencies, by the 1990 s laying the groundwork for a career as a freelance artist, dedicated to visual communications for cultural events, publishing projects and webdesign. Alongside his design career, he has been working as photographer for the editorial field. He has been writing articles for graphic design magazines for many years. in 2010 he published the book "Creative layout, language of graphic design, Ikon editrice". Currently, he is lecturer at NABA (Computer Graphics, Publishing design, Affiliate Package Courses, Summer Courses).
