With great honor, the university was renamed Mahidol University in 1969 by H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej in memory of his father, H.R.H Prince Mahidol of Songkla, who is regarded the Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health in Thailand. Since that time, Mahidol University has continued to grow and diversify into a comprehensive research university.
