1 Master of Education In Educational Management (International Programme)
2 Since the Ministry of Education of Thailand and of her neighboring countries have realized and considered school administrators at all levels as the real change agents of education, they; therefore need to be equipped with broader views and skills in educational management and reform so that the schools can satisfy and quickly respond to the clients s needs. The educational management programme intends to enable students: 1. To learn essential management skills and increase the effectiveness in managing schools. 2. To broaden their world views in educational changes and reforms. 3. To change attitudes and values in perceiving and solving educational problems in the rapid changing world. 4. To gain direct experiences and knowledge overseas. English is utilized for both instruction and thesis writing. No less than 42 credits. (course work 30 credits and thesis 12 credits) Thai and foreign students are welcomed to study this programme. Candidate must hold a minimum of a bachelor s degree in education, social sciences or other related degrees. Applicants must have an average grade of no less than 75 % or GPA of 2.50, and must acquire an TOEFL score of no less than 500. English Proficiency Test will also be arranged for the applicants who do not undergo the TOEFL test. An English intensive course will be provided for those who need to develop their skills in academic reading and writing. 2

Applicants must submit: 1.1 A certificate, academic records, transcript certified by the academic institution from which they obtained bachelor degree; 1.2 A concept paper in the area of educational management which is not more than 500 words; 1.3 Two letters of recommendation and contacted addresses of academic or professional referees. 2. Applicants might be required to undergo an interview with the Program Committee. 3. Exception to the above items might be made by the Program Committee and the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. 3

5 SHED 513 Education and Development 3(3-0) The underlying philosophies of education which lead to the understanding of educational concepts, issues and development. Theories of education and development, will be studied and discussed. Theories of education and development, local, national and global influences on educational development, educational issues and resolution are also studied and analyzed. SHED 514 Curriculum Planning and Change 3(3-0) Situational analysis and curriculum planning, principles of curriculum design, material development, principles of curriculum implementation, teacher education and curriculum implementation, the evaluation of curriculum programmes and projects, curriculum innovations and curriculum change are topics to be covered. SHED 520 Statistics I 3(3-0) Techniques of basic statistics necessary for research such as the measure of central tendency, dispersion, normal distribution, probability theory, statistical decision error, hypothesis testing by z, t, x 2 one and two-way analysis of variance, correlation and multiple regression are studied and practiced. SHED 525 Research Methods 3(3-0) Research methodologies, and steps in various kinds of research proposals, techniques in gathering data and treatment of data, writing a research report, criteria for evaluating, analyzing and discussing the research results. Article published in the journals, papers, and textbook are studied. Students are required to submit a research proposal and undertake a pilot project so as to increase their research skills and experiences. 5
6 SHED 573 Human Resource Management 3(3-0) A study of theories, models, concepts, philosophy and evolution of personnel management are studied. Process, techniques and control of personnel management. The use of human potentials in developing and improving the organization s efficiency through the processes of selection, placement, appointment, dismissal, appropriate job description, rewards and punishment, welfare provision, and assessment of job performances are studied, analyzed and discussed. SHED 581 Educational Policy and Planning 3(3-0) A framework for understanding policy making and policy analysis, indicators of educational effectiveness and efficiency, international education indicators, significant issues in Thailand such as: problems in educational management, curriculum development and school learning are studied and analyzed. Planning of changes, medium and long-term planning of educational changes will be studied and discussed. SHED 582 Educational Management 3(3-0) Concepts in educational management, Administration and organization of education, paradigmatic perspectives, patterns of students and teachers interaction, organization roles and processes, strategic planning, school based decision making, communications, school management and public relations, organizational climate, change management in school, power and authority, leadership styles, morale and teacher stress, professionalism in education are topics to be studied. SHED 583 Financial Management in Education 3(3-0) Economic perspectives and thinking in education, monetary and no monetary costs and benefits of education, education and the labour market, budget allocation in public schools and funding sources for educational development are studied, analyzed and discussed. SHED 584 Managerial Leadership 3(3-0) Studies in managerial leadership, contemporary theoretical frames and practical implications, leadership impact on organizational performance and culture, communication skill, power, authority and related influence processes, competencies of leaders and leadership development are included. SHED 685 Organization Behavior 3(3-0) A study of the impact caused by individuals, groups and organizational structure on behavior in organizations of various kinds, emphasizing employment and related environment are covered. Individual behavior, perception, values and attitudes, motivation, communication, leadership, groups and teams, power and politics, conflict, organizational culture and change, and international perspectives of organizational behavior are also discussed. 6
7 SHED 586 Seminar on the Current Issues of Education 3(3-0) The students study, write, and present their papers on educational problems such as : equal opportunity and access to education, failure of educational management, quality of education, failure of moral teaching and so on. These topics will be discussed, analyses, and synthesized among the students so as to broaden and enlarge their views on educational problems. SHED 587 Organization Change and Development 3(3-0) Organization analysis and development, theories of development, analysis of performance, design of research, surveys, survey administration and follow up, intervention strategies and processes use of organizational consultants, successful and unsuccessful programmes are studied, discussed and practiced. Analysis of an organizational problem, acting as consulting group and giving advice to management as to the causes and solutions for solving problems are also included. SHED 588 Planning of Change 3(3-0) A study of concepts and evolution of planned change, elements of planned change, theories of social and planned change, systems in change, approaches to organizational change, resistance to change and solution, directions of change and planned change in educational organizations are included. SHED 589 Internship 6(6-0) Internship is a set of activities that will be conducted in a prestigious university of either in Thailand or foreign countries such as : the united kingdom, the united states, Canada or Australia, its purpose is to expose the students / participants with the learning atmosphere in the field of educational management abroad so as to broaden their visions and worldviews in their management profession. SHED 613 Information System for Management 3(3-0) A study of ideas, concepts and importance of information system for educational management, nature of information system for management at different levels, systems structure, systems design, priority setting, systems development and project management, organizations of information system for management. Administrator s roles to the management of information system, collection and analysis of educational data are included. SHED 698 Research for M.Ed. Thesis 3(3-0) Each student must write a thesis (in English) on a topic that relates to educational management field under close supervision of the thesis advisors appointed by the graduate faculty. Thesis defense or thesis oral examination is required for graduation. 7
8 Applicants must satisfy the following criteria : 1. Candidates must hold minimum of a bachelor s degree in education, social sciences or other related degrees, 2. Applicants must have had an average grade of no less than 75% or GPA. of 2.5, and 3. Applicants must acquire a TOEFL: score of no less than 500. English proficiency test will also be arranged for the applicants who do not undergo the TOEFL test.
