1 Date: July 2008 GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY To: From: Subject: Georgetown Exchange Applicants Lisa Gordinier Exchange Student Coordinator Procedures for Completing the Georgetown Exchange Student Application 1. Please be advised that the Georgetown University Exchange Student Application consists of two separate parts: the Academic Application (see attached) and the Immigration Application. All students must fill out both applications. We can process your application only if both parts are complete. 2. Complete the Academic Application and the Immigration Application by filling in the requested information and provide all necessary documentation (bank statement, letter of support, transcript, etc.) as indicated on both checklists. Print out the application and sign it. Your advisor will submit your application to GU. 3. The Georgetown University Exchange Student Nomination Form and the Academic Application checklist must be filled out and signed by your institution s Exchange Program Coordinator. 4. You are responsible for providing all information and documentation requested. Unfortunately we are unable to process incomplete applications. 5. Read the information carefully and contact Lisa Gordinier, Exchange Student Coordinator via lag33@georgetown.edu or via phone (202) if you have further questions. Please note that students who wish to take business courses in the undergraduate business school must be business majors at their home institutions. Spaces are currently very limited in the undergraduate School of Business.
2 EXCHANGE STUDENT PLACEMENT OPTIONS AT GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY SPRING 2009 Georgetown University exchange programs are intended for students from GU and its partner institutions who wish to pursue a one-year or one-semester course of study at the other institution while remaining degree candidates at their home institution. Therefore, exchange student placements at GU will be for nominees who are NOT candidates for degree programs at GU. The exchange program is a Main Campus exchange. The following departments are autonomous and do NOT accept exchange students: School of Medicine, School of Law, Master s of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS), Communication, Culture, & Technology (CCT), Public Policy (PBPO), National Security Studies (NSST). Exchange students will fall into one of the following categories: NON-DEGREE UNDERGRADUATE (TAKING COURSES ONLY) Students admitted to the exchange program will be informally affiliated with one of Georgetown s four undergraduate schools which will grant them permission to register for specific courses. Participants are expected to enroll in a full undergraduate course of study (12-15 hours per semester); to take courses for credit; and to complete all normal requirements set by the faculty for degree candidates. These students are eligible to take undergraduate courses given on the Main Campus, and may be given permission to take mixed-level courses and/or graduate level courses depending on their academic preparation. (Undergraduate students are NOT eligible for formal research requests such as a Research Tutorial or a reduced course load.) Availability of specific courses at the time of registration will depend upon the size of the class. Students must have alternative choices in mind and be prepared to choose other classes should the desired courses be full. Each student will receive a full transcript of record showing credits and grades for each course. Undergraduate exchange students are eligible for on-campus housing, however, since on-campus housing is limited it cannot be guaranteed. If on-campus housing is not available, students will be assisted in their housing search by the staff of the Office of International Programs (OIP). Applicants should be at least 18 years of age; should present a TOEFL score of at least 570 (230 computer-based score or internet-based score), although a minimum score of 600 (250 computer-based score or 100 inter-net based score) will be required by some departments; and applicants should be enrolled at their home university as candidates for a university-level degree. Please note that students who wish to take business courses in the undergraduate business school must be business majors at their home institutions. Spaces are currently very limited in the undergraduate school of business.
