Thanks for expressing your interest in VITA Personal Training. This booklet is designed to give potential learners an idea of what to expect during the 12 week REPS Accredited Active IQ Level 3 Personal Training course with VITA and what they will get out of it if hard work and commitment is put into the course. What specific qualifications will I receive if I pass all parts of the course? You will receive the following certificates if you pass all elements of each qualification: Active IQ Level 2 (Gym Instructor) Certificate Active IQ Level 3 (Personal Training) Certificate Will my hard work be recognized? Yes! Active IQ are a government approved exercise awarding body within the fitness industry who issue your certificates. These certificates are recognised by Professionals (REPS) and all major gyms in the UK. After successfully completing the qualifications, you will be a fully qualified gym instructor/personal trainer. Who is it aimed at? Level 2 is the entry level qualification for those who want to enter the fitness industry. Level 3 is a more advanced qualification that prepares an individual for the demands of personal training. VITA Personal Training Qualifications will also begin to offer more advanced qualifications to continue your development once you have entered the industry and gained valuable working experience as a gym instructor/personal trainer.

Will I get a job? Everyone who takes the VITA Personal Training course will have the opportunity to apply as an employed fitness instructor/personal trainer at any UK gym as the qualifications are REPS Accredited Nationwide. You also have the chance to work as a self employed PT running your own business to suit your lifestyle, we offer advice and guidance on both career progression routes during your time with VITA. What are the course hours and days of attendance over the 12 week course? VITA Personal Training offers an e-learning route for those that are motivated to self-study in their spare time. You will receive on-line access to manuals, videos and other learning material to prepare you for your theory and practical assessments. You will have an online tutor to discuss your progress with and who you can book assessments through. You will need to put in at least an hour of study a day depending on how quickly you progress though the course When & Where will the courses be held? Typical Course structure (Level 2&3 Weekends 12 Week Distance Learning Course) 1. 1 day induction Course Overview and Study Programme meet with Tutor. 2. Saturday & Sunday at Week 4 Level 2 Gym Practical 9am-5pm 3. Saturday & Sunday at week 8 Level 2 Theory & Gym Assessments 9am-5pm BOTH days 4. Saturday & Sunday at week 10 Level 3 Gym Practical 9am-5pm BOTH days. 5. Saturday & Sunday at week 12 Level 3 Theory & Gym Assessments - 9am-5pm BOTH days. Do I need to attend every day? Yes! Our awarding body Active IQ stipulate courses are run for a certain length of time in order to ensure the Guided Learning Hours are achieved by every learner. Failure to attend days of the course will result in the learner being suspended from the course and re-booked on to a future course. This ensures learners are not disadvantaged when it comes to assessments. It is a quality assurance measure of VITA Personal Training. If there is an emergency reason why you cannot attend you must inform your tutor at the earliest possible opportunity so that alternative arrangements can be made. Who are your tutors? VITA Personal Training tutors and assessors are highly regarded in the fitness industry and are passionate about passing on their industry specific experience to learners keen to enter the industry. Every member of staff is heavily qualified as a personal trainer and tutor/assessor.

So you re in good hands! Please see our tutor profile sections for more info on your tutors. What sort of things will I learn? During level 2, some of the things you will learn are: 1. Anatomy and physiology a. How the body moves so you can figure out what exercises target which muscles b. What happens to your bones/muscles/hormones during training and the ageing process c. How your nervous system is developed through regular training d. Why some of you will be sprinters and others will be more endurance athletes 2. Customer services skills as a gym instructor a. How to develop trust and rapport with members of the public 3. Health and safety needed in the leisure environment a. To ensure gym members are safe whilst exercising 4. Principles of exercise, fitness and health a. How to adapt exercises for special populations such as elderly and pre/postnatal females b. How to define different types of fitness and how to develop each type c. Understand how to monitor exercise intensity to ensure the client gets results

5. Planning gym-based exercise a. Understand the safe and effective way of inducting a client into the gym, from warm up to cool down b. Learn how to increase CV fitness levels through different forms of cardiovascular training c. Learn the correct reps/sets/rest periods needed to achieve different goals such as muscular endurance, hypertrophy and strength 6. Instructing gym based exercise a. Ensure your exercise technique is spot on to pass this knowledge on to clients During your level 3 personal training qualification, some of the things you will learn are: 1. Anatomy and Physiology a. This is more advanced compared to level 2 information so understanding this will really allow you to design effective training programmes. 2. Nutrition a. Ensure your client gets results by understand the different needs of different clients nutritionally b. Understand why the quality of food is important for achieving goals c. Understand why the quantity of food is important for achieving goals d. Understand how sports nutrition differs from personal training client s nutrition e. Gain experience in analyzing a client s food diary and give suitable recommendations

3. Planning personal training sessions a. Developing an 8-week periodised personal training programme designed to get your clients the results they are after b. Set specific goals to motivate your client to adhere to the exercise and nutritional changes they need to make c. Learn how to write effect endurance/fat-loss/hypertrophy/strength and power programmes to get your potential clients results 4. Delivering personal training sessions a. This is your time to shine! It is time to work your client hard and get them those results they re after! b. Perform advanced training systems such as Tabata or Fartlek training for CV training and pyramids, giant sets and drops sets for resistance exercises. How is the course assessed? The course is assessed against the performance criteria and underpinning knowledge, through a series of theory exams, practical observations, worksheets and case studies. Tutorial Support Each Student will have access to tutorial support from the designated course/subject tutor. These will take place at the beginning, in the middle and towards the end of the course. This is to ensure that students are kept on track and have a specific time allocated for them with the course tutor, where they can discuss problems they are encountering.

Students are reminded that additional individual tutorials can be arranged with the lead assessor by appointment. You can expect your tutor to: Keep track of you academic progress Attempt to resolve course problems, providing a communication pathway between candidates and course tutors. Provide careers advice Provide study skills sessions if required Provide tutorials for every candidate What is expected of you? All students enrolled onto a VITA Personal Training course are expected to act professionally and honestly at all times whilst on the course. All learners will be expected to sign a student contract during the first day of their course to outline to professionalism expected of them during the course. This includes time-keeping, quality of work, handing work in on time, appearance, attitude and behaviour. But I m already level 2 qualified If you have already passed your level 2 gym instructor award through a different training provider, you do not have to attend level 2 training days if you can provide evidence of your qualification. Learners who have already passed though are still strongly recommended to attend all sections of the course to refresh their knowledge as well as drawn on the experience of our hugely experienced tutors. Teaching and Learning The learning and teaching styles will both vary from tutor to tutor, depending on the subject. Candidates can be assured that the tutors for each element are not only specialists in their particular subject area but also aware of the varying teaching methods used. Individual learning needs will be catered for. Learning and teaching styles will incorporate Assignments both practical and written Group discussions to help you contribute to and idea or theory Lectures where you need to listen and make notes Group work to promote team working skills Case studies / what if scenarios Examinations Observation of practical skills Questions and answers tutors will be keen to draw from your varying experiences, as we believe that every student can help contribute to the course. It is also a way of assuring the tutor that you understand the subject being taught.

If you feel you are not progressing, finding the work too difficult or do not understand something, please inform your tutor. Remember, we are used to dealing with potential problems and most can be resolved before they become problems. Assessment Methods and Policy All options include a multiple choice test, worksheets and a practical observation of teaching. With each assessment you will receive a sheet identifying the assessment criteria. This will clearly identify what you must do to gain competence. If any work is not deemed competent, this will need to be re-submitted to your tutor with amendments made. All work is internally and externally verified to ensure it is up to standard
