Arrival and Collection Early Years Start of Day Reception door opens at 8:50 and parents/ carers can accompany children into the Reception classroom. The door will close at 9am and all parents must leave by then. If children arrive after this they must enter school through the main office and be signed in as late. The Nursery door opens at 9:00 and will close at 9:15, when all parents must leave. This gives children and parents a settling in time and a chance to talk to key person as required. End of Day Both the Reception and Nursery doors will open at 3:00, again giving parents/carers a chance to talk to staff. All children must be collected by 3:15. After 3:20 any children not collected will need to be collected from the main office. Year 1 upwards The school door opens at 8.50 a.m. Children then go into the playground until the whistle is blown at 9.00a.m. All children should be in the playground by 9.00 a.m. Any child who comes in after 9.00a.m. is asked to report to the office and give a reason for their lateness. The school day ends at 3.15 p.m. Pupils are brought to the front entrances and dismissed by their class teachers. Years 4 and 5 exit by the school office; years 1, 2, 3 and 6 exit through the doors at the back of the hall. 3

Assembly We have Assembly every day and Collective Worship is an important part of the life of All Saints. On Monday we have Singing Assembly in Key Stages; Tuesday and Wednesday assemblies are for the whole school, Thursday Assemblies are held in Key Stages and Friday is Merit Assembly attended by the whole school. Attendance Regular and punctual attendance is crucial if children are to make good progress. The school has attendance targets set by the DFE. If your child is unable to attend school due to illness please contact the school office via the absence line to report their absence before 9.30 a.m. If the absence is for more than one day you need to report the absence each day. There are a small number of other circumstances for which absence can be authorised; these requests need to be made by e mail or letter and agreed by the Headteacher. Holiday absence during term time is not authorised. Should a child s attendance fall below 90 % you will receive a letter informing you of the level of absence and, if necessary, asking you to meet with a member of the senior management team to discuss the reasons for absence. Behaviour 4

When your child starts school you will be asked to sign the Home/School agreement which sets out expectations with regard to behaviour. The school s Behaviour policy is available on the school website. Should your child s behaviour be a cause for concern at any time, we will contact you to discuss it. Bicycles Children may cycle or scooter to school. There are cycle racks by the main school entrance, a scooter rack in the main cycle shed and an additional scooter rack by the Nursery. Please make sure that cycles are locked and scooters placed in the racks. Bicycles and scooters are left at school at the owners risk. Birthdays We generally celebrate children s birthdays by singing Happy Birthday to them at lunch time. Children may also bring in a small treat to share with their classmates. If you are thinking of sending in cakes then we ask that you please send in individual cakes so that teacher time is not spent cutting up/ sharing out. Please also ensure that they are nut free. Change of address or contact details Please make sure you inform the office of any change of address or contact details, including e mail. Charities We support a number of charities on a regular basis; the British Heart Foundation, Jeans for Genes, and 5

Comic/Sport relief and these are often supported by Mufti Days or other dedicated events. Harvest donations are given to The Upper Room, a charity supporting the homeless. Some of the charities we support are from a list of suggestions made by the children. In addition, a pocket money collection is made every Wednesday and the proceeds saved to help support our twin school, St. Augustine s in Angola. Church We have very close links with All Saints Church. A member of the clergy takes assembly every week and we plan our Acts of Worship together. We attend church for a Eucharist service once a term and also hold whole school services in church at the end of each term. Clubs We are proud of our extensive range of school after school clubs. There are a range of sporting and creative clubs on offer. These vary slightly on a termly basis, and sign up letters are sent to parents each term. Most clubs finish at 4.15 p.m. Up to date club timetables are posted on the school website. Complaints The school takes pride in the quality of teaching and learning and its pastoral care of pupils. We also believe in openness. Comments and suggestions 6

made by parents are taken seriously as are any concerns or complaints. If you wish to make a complaint please follow the guidance in the Complaints Policy which is published on the website. Curriculum Nursery and Reception classes follow the EYFS curriculum. Learning is play based and centres on seven main areas of learning; these are explained in the Early Years booklet. From Year 1 upwards the National Curriculum is followed with broad based topics and cross curricular links where appropriate. Independent learning activities are differentiated to suit the learning abilities of individual pupils. At the beginning of each school year you will be invited to a meeting with the class teacher, at which the broad topic outline for the year will be discussed. You will also receive a topic outline each term (this is also on the school website). Diet Please inform the office when you enrol your child, of any special dietary requirements. You will be asked to provide basic information including food allergies so that the kitchen and staff are informed. Dogs Dogs should not be brought into the school grounds or building. Leads can be tied to the railings outside the pedestrian entrance to the school. 7

Emails Teachers may be contacted by email via the school office. Emails will be forwarded to individual teacher addresses during working hours. Please consider that all teachers have full teaching schedules so please allow them time to respond. Emergency contact Please ensure that the Emergency Contact Number you provide on the school Data sheet is of a relative or friend who lives locally, and who would be willing to act should we be unable to reach you. If you are leaving your child with someone acting in Loco Parentis, please inform the school office in writing giving contact details of the person and where you may be contacted in an emergency, Equipment The school provides all necessary equipment such as pencils, rulers, crayons etc. Children need to have either a school rucksack or book bag which can be purchased on Wednesday afternoons via the office. When your child receives their pen licence we ask that you purchase their first pen from the office where they are sold at an extremely reasonable price. Events 8

We make every attempt to plan ahead for the majority of events. These are published on the school calendar on the website which is updated regularly. Reminders are also sent to you on the school newsletter which is published weekly. However, it is just about impossible to plan all events ahead. We give as much notice as we can in order for you to organise your diaries; most events happen during the day. Fire Evacuation Procedure We carry out regular fire drills to familiarise children and staff with evacuation procedures. If you are in the building when the alarm sounds please make your way to the assembly point in the playground. If you visit a class to help please make sure that you sign into the Visitors Book by the office. Friends of All Saints School (FASS) When your child starts at All Saints you automatically become a member of FASS. There is a Chair and 2 class representatives per year group. FASS have their own link on the website. As well as doing lots of excellent work to help raise much needed funds for the school, they also arrange social events outside of school to help people get to know each other. They keep their own contact list of parents within each class. Head Lice It is advisable to check every child s hair at least once a week for lice and/or eggs, and to comb through 9

weekly using the wet combing method. We find that using lotions and sprays in isolation does not keep lice away Health & Safety This is of paramount importance. The Health & Safety Policy is on the school website. The Governing Body conduct a Health & Safety inspection each term. History of All Saints All Saints School dates back to 1630 when it first existed over the church porch. Since then the school has existed in a number of different buildings, and at the present site since 1996. Holiday dates Holiday dates are sent through to you on the back of the school newsletter and are also posted on the website. We ask that parents adhere to these dates when planning family holidays. We do not authorise any holiday during term time. Homework Information about homework is given at the Class Welcome meetings in the autumn term. Guided reading homework is set on the day a child reads with the class teacher. General homework is set on Thursday and expected to be returned to school the following Tuesday. House Points 10

Your child will be put into one of four houses and remain in it for his or her whole time with us. The system is aimed at encouraging a healthy team ethos. Illness/Injury Please telephone the school if your child is ill and unable to attend, and on each subsequent day of absence. If your child has vomited, had diarrhoea or a temperature please keep them at home until their temperature has been normal or they have not been sick for 24 hours. Several members of staff hold First Aid qualifications. If your child has an accident in school time they will be attended to by a qualified first aider. All head injuries, however slight, are reported to parents to allow monitoring at home. We can wash wounds and apply plasters but are not permitted to apply creams or ointments. Internet Access Children have access to pre approved websites, to enhance many areas of the curriculum. An accredited filter is applied to all internet use in school. Children are also taught about safe and responsible use of the internet. Jewellery 11

For health and safety reason no jewellery is permitted in school, with the exception of small stud earrings for pupils with pierced ears. Loco Parentis If you are leaving your child with someone acting in Loco Parentis, please inform the School Office in writing giving contact details of the person and where you can be contacted in an emergency. Lost Property A filing cabinet in the stair well by the main pupil entrance contains lost items. Children can look for mislaid items during their break. Please make sure that all property and uniforms are clearly labelled, even socks! Any unclaimed and unnamed items of uniform will be donated to the Friends Association for re-sale. Lunch Lunch is prepared every day on site. The menu changes termly and is designed using strict guidelines. There is also a school packed lunch option for children who prefer sandwiches. Parents can pay for lunches weekly, half termly or termly. The current cost is 1.80 per day. Medicine You must complete a medication form if your child requires any medication during school time, otherwise it cannot be administered. Forms are available form 12

the school office. All medicines, other than epi-pens and emergency asthma pumps, are kept in the Medical Room. Merits Merit certificates are given out every week at the Friday Merit Assembly. Merits are a celebration of achievement and are given for a wide variety of reasons. Mobile phones Pupils in Years 5 & 6 who walk to school by themselves may bring a mobile phone to school. These must be handed in to the office staff on arrival and collected at the end of the day. Mobile phones are not permitted on school trips whether day visits or residential. Music tuition Individual piano and violin (Suzuki method) lessons are available from KS1. In KS2 small group flute and clarinet lessons are available as well as piano. Request forms are available from the office. Newsletter The school newsletter is published weekly. This is circulated by email, so please make sure that you let us have an email address to send it to. There are also hard copies available for collection from the office. The newsletter is posted on the website each week. 13

Office The school office opens at 8.30 a.m. and closes at 4.30 p.m. and is staffed by Mrs. Lea (School Business Manager) and Mrs. Finn (School Administrator). Parent Consultations In addition to the Class Welcome meetings Parent Consultations are held in the autumn and spring terms to discuss individual progress. Outside of these meetings individual members of staff will contact you if they have any concerns and we ask that you do likewise. Playtime Children in Nursery and Reception classes play in the EYFS play area. Morning playtime is from 10.30-10.45 a.m. This is an unstructured but fully supervised time for the children to interact and play independently. Children have access to a range of play equipment. Policies School policies are available on the school website. Hard copies can be made available upon request. Pushchairs and Prams Prams and pushchairs should not be brought into school. They may be left in the covered space by the hall doors. 14

If your child arrives late or needs to be collected early please inform the school office so that the register can be amended. Reports A written progress report is sent to all parents at the end of the summer term. Scooters Children are allowed to bring scooters to school. Please make sure that scooters are clearly named, and supervise children whilst they park them in the cycle store which has space for them. Smoking Smoking is not permitted in any part of the school building or grounds. Toys We ask children not to bring toys in to school in case they get lost or damaged, or cause disputes. Trips Outside visits are an important part of the curriculum and enhance learning. Your child will have the opportunity to go on many outings and visits during his or her time at All Saints. Details and costs of trips are given in advance, and many ask for parent 15

helpers, so feel free to volunteer. Residential trips start in Year 4. Uniform A full uniform list is available on the school website. The P.E uniform is sold from school, as are coats, jumpers and polo shirts with the school logo. Other items of uniform may be purchased from Uniform Direct in North End Road. Green blazers are available at Peter Jones. Parents are able to purchase uniform from school every Wednesday afternoon; order forms are available from the school office.
