Diocesan Youth worker for Outreach Clifton Diocese Youth Ministry provides opportunities for young people to further their involvement in the Catholic Church. To encourage, resource and empower the whole church to engage in youth ministry, accompanying young people on their journey of faith. Background information The Clifton Diocese is the Catholic diocese covering the West of England including the City and County of Bristol, the counties of Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Bath and North East Somerset. There are 107 parishes within 13 deaneries serving a Catholic population of around 190,000. Around 30,000 people attend Mass around the diocese every weekend. More than 2,000 people are actively involved in Catholic associations in the diocese. The Diocese of Clifton is under the pastoral care of Bishop Declan Lang. 2
As a direct result of our Diocesan guidelines, Called to be a people of Hope, and due to the appointment of a Diocesan Coordinator of Youth Ministry, there has been an emphasis on our work with young people in the past four years. As part of the Adult Education and Evangelisation department, the Coordinator of Youth Ministry currently works with parishes providing training for volunteer and employed youth workers. The Clifton Diocese now wishes to further extend the face to face work with young people in the form of outreach based youth ministry. Working as part of a small team, the appointed person will have the opportunity to continue the development of youth ministry in the Clifton Diocese. There will be consistent support from the Coordinator of Youth Ministry and other departments within the Clifton Diocese, as well as the opportunity for non-managerial supervision and spiritual direction. Diocesan Coordinator of Youth Ministry. 22,000 24,000 P.A. Depending on qualifications and experience. Contract is full-time for three years subject to successful completion of a six month probationary period. Hours of Work: Holiday: 35 hours per week. 5.6 weeks including public holidays. This post is subject to an enhanced level DBS check Job purpose: Main duties: To develop outreach Youth Ministry provision in the Clifton Diocese. To communicate the Gospel message to young people in all parishes and diocesan schools and to extensively increase opportunities for young people to be involved in the Catholic Church and to grow in the Catholic faith. To develop and lead outreach Youth Ministry within the diocese. o Build professional relationships with parishes, diocesan clergy and employees, volunteer youth workers and catechists, and diocesan primary and secondary schools. o To create and deliver excellent programmes and sessions that communicate the Gospel message to young people through diverse mediums. o Promote Youth Ministry and a variety programmes available to parishes and schools. Work closely with colleagues to maintain excellence in the creation of resources. 4
To work alongside the Coordinator of Youth Ministry to equip youth leaders/ministers and parish catechists to provide innovative means, methods and resources for catechesis and evangelisation. Work alongside the Coordinator of Youth Ministry on the preparation and planning of World Youth Day 2016 and the diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes. Communication: Communicate effectively with the other departments, colleagues and young people in presenting the Catholic Faith. To contribute to relevant content for the Clifton Diocese website and develop the use of social media. Specific projects: In partnership with volunteers and representatives from CAFOD, coordinate and deliver the CAFOD young leadership project within the diocese. Coordinate and deliver regular gatherings of young people for catechesis, prayer and social time on a deanery or area level. Lead the formation and support of volunteer leaders for World Youth Day 2016. Carry out other duties as required by the line manager, which may prove necessary for the proper performance of the role. 5
Diocesan Youth worker for Outreach Personal Specification Essential Experience in Youth Ministry. Working knowledge of the Roman Catholic faith and environment. Ability to work collaboratively and independently. Excellent communication, organisation and creative skills. Proficient IT skills and ability to use multi media. Full UK Driving License with own transport. Desirable Formal qualification in Youth work, Theology or similar. Design or media skills. Experience in Music ministry. Personal Qualities A practising Catholic. Possess a good sense of humour. A flexible and positive work attitude. Self-motivated and able to take initiative. Ability to reflect critically and theologically on work practice. 6
