Your new service We have made changes to your household waste and recycling service to help you to recycle more: You will now be able to recycle food & drinks cartons in your blue-lidded bin. Your non-recyclable waste will now be collected in a new slimline green-lidded bin - we will remove your old bin. With your help we can recycle more and reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfill. Too good to waste Did you know in 2015, 45% of materials in the green-lidded bin sent for disposal could have been recycled in your blue and brown-lidded bins? An average green-lidded bin in Perth and Kinross still contains materials that could be recycled at the kerbside: Food waste Paper, card, cans, plastic bottles & containers Other waste Last year this cost Perth and Kinross Council over 1 million on disposal charges for the materials that could have been recycled. You can help by recycling all of these materials in your bluelidded and brown-lidded bins.

Brown-lidded bin Only for food and garden waste Collected every TWO WEEKS If you need a replacement kitchen caddy, you can pick one up at your local Council office or library. 1 2 3 4 5 Line your kitchen caddy with a compostable liner, newspaper or place your food in loose YES 3 Food Waste 3 All cooked & uncooked food 3 Dairy & eggs - including shells 3 Meat, fish & bones 3 Tea bags & coffee grounds 3 Fruit & vegetables 3 Bread, cakes & pastries 3 Rice & pasta Transfer all cooked and uncooked food waste into the kitchen caddy Garden Waste 3 Grass cuttings 3 Leaves 3 Weeds & clippings 3 Small twigs & branches 3 Sawdust, bark & hay 3 Cut flowers & houseplants When the caddy is nearly full, empty the contents into your brown-lidded bin NO Dog waste Food packaging Plastic bags Soil, rubble or stones Large branches or logs Liquids or oils Collect your garden waste and place in your brown-lidded bin Put your brown-lidded bin at the kerbside by 7.30am on your collection day Remove food from packaging before recycling in your brown-lidded bin. Compostable liners can be purchased from local retailers and supermarkets. Do not use plastic bags to line your caddy.

New slimline bin Green-lidded bin Only for non-recyclable waste Collected every TWO WEEKS 1 2 3 Only materials that cannot be recycled should be disposed of in your greenlidded bin Do not put any materials that can be recycled in this bin Put your greenlidded bin at the kerbside by 7.30am on your collection day You should only use your new slimline green-lidded bin for materials that cannot be recycled. Once this new service starts the Council will no longer empty larger green-lidded bins.

How to present your bin Your waste and recycling wheeled bins will only be emptied if they are presented correctly. 3 Place your bin at the kerbside or agreed location by 7.30am on the morning of your collection Return your bin to your property as soon as possible after it has been emptied Do not overfill your bin and ensure that the lid is fully closed Your bin will not be emptied if it is too heavy to be safely moved Do not leave excess waste on top of or at the side of your bin as neither will be collected

Glass bottles & jars Please recycle all of your glass bottles and jars using the glass Recycling Points located throughout Perth and Kinross. Do not place these items in your new slimline green-lidded bin. 1 2 3 Collect your glass bottles & jars YES 3 Rinse items and remove bottle tops. Place bottle tops in your green-lidded bin NO Recycle your bottles & jars at the Recycling Point 3 Wine, beer, cider & spirit bottles 3 Soft drinks bottles 3 Cooking sauce jars 3 Oil & vinegar bottles 3 Coffee & jam jars 3 Baby food jars Pyrex Mirror or window glass Crockery or drinking glasses Corks or lids Lightbulbs Fragrance bottles

Recycling Points You can recycle a range of materials at over 100 conveniently located Recycling Points across Perth and Kinross. This includes: Glass bottles & jars Cans & aluminium foil Textiles & shoes To find out where your nearest Recycling Points are located and what you can recycle please visit www.pkc.gov.uk/recycle Recycling Centres There are a number of Recycling Centres throughout Perth and Kinross where you can recycle a wider range of materials including: Glass bottles & jars Textiles & shoes Electrical & electronic equipment (WEEE) Bulky household items Soil, stones, rubble & timber Garden waste Householders can also dispose of non-recyclable waste free of charge at these Recycling Centres. Frequently Asked Questions Q: Can I have an additional recycling bin? A: Yes. If you need an extra blue-lidded or brown-lidded recycling bin (up to a maximum of two of each per household) please contact us using the details below. Q: What should I do with my old larger greenlidded bin once this new service starts? A: You should present your larger green-lidded bin at the kerbside. It will be emptied for a final time - check your letter for details. Once this bin has been emptied please leave it at the kerbside. It will be removed within 3 days. Q: If I don t have enough space in my new slimline bin what can I do? A: If you are recycling as much as possible and you have a large household, two or more children in nappies or generate non-recyclable healthcare waste, you can apply for a second slimline bin by completing an online application or by contacting us using the details below.
