2 Can I use my old recycle bin? No. Recycling will now be Automated like the Trash. The only container you can use for Recycling will be the 96 Gallon Blue wheeled cart with the Green lid. What shall I do with my old recycle bin? There will be a dumpster behind the Town Hall at 1009 Main Street from August 30, 2014 to September 26, Please bring your bin there and dispose of in the dumpster or leave beside the dumpster in an orderly fashion. Can I put bagged Trash in my Recycle Toter? BI-WEEKLY RECYCLING SCHEDULE WILL T CHANGE BUT WILL BE AUTOMATED and STILL SINGLE STREAM! What is Automated Single Stream you ask?! Your new 96 Gallon Blue Wheeled toter with a Green Lid will be used for all of your recycling. Everything that s recyclable will go into this cart and be picked up by an Automated Recycle truck. What about cardboard? Good question. You need to make it small enough to fit into your Blue Wheeled toter with a Green Lid. It also has to be small enough that when it s emptied into the Recycling truck it leaves the container. If it s too big it will remain stuck in the wheeled toter! No. The Recycle Toter is just like the previous Recycle bins and should have no Trash contained in it. It will not be emptied if Trash is found in the Recycle Toter. What is T recyclable? Styrofoam is not recyclable in Tewksbury. Styrofoam peanuts either. Pizza Boxes are also not recyclable. Those are soiled with cheese and oil and are not recycled even though they have a recycling sign on them. Construction & Demolition Debris (C&D) T allowed in Trash The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection bans the disposal of C&D materials with regular trash. Disposal of C&D from household building or renovation projects is the homeowner's responsibility. Debris includes treated and untreated wood, brick, concrete, asphalt and similar items. Residents must contact Republic Services or a licensed C&D disposal company. Consider donating reusable building material to a nonprofit such as Habitat for Humanity.
3 Frequently Asked Questions on Trash: What items should not be placed in the blue trash toter? All household waste should be placed in regular trash bags prior to being discarded in the blue toter. This keeps the toter clean and odor-free. Items that should T be placed in the toter include, but are not limited to: ALL recyclables, construction materials, tires, motor oil, paint, hot ashes, gasoline, hazardous materials, yard waste, etc. May a resident place trash bags outside the toter? Only approved Town of Tewksbury "stickers" sold by Republic Services will be accepted. The cost is $5 per sticker for your regular trash bags Stickered bags should be placed next to the Toter. You must purchase Trash Stickers from Republic Services check or credit card accepted. TRASH and RECYCLE TOTERS must be curbside no later than 7:00 am on trash day. LATEX Paint containers must be empty or solidified prior to being picked up (Kitty Litter or sand will solidify left over paint). Liquids (i.e. thinners, oil, acids) and Medical Waste (i.e. oxygen tanks, needles) are not acceptable materials for pick up. ALL cardboard boxes need to be broken down and placed in your wheeled RECYCLE toter for pick up. What do I do if my Trash or Recycle toter is missing? You have to go to the Tewksbury Police Department as it is considered stolen and file a police report. The police report then needs to be delivered to the Town Manager s office in order for the toter to be replaced. What do I do if my Trash or Recycle toter is damaged? Please contact Republic Service at Special Collections - Curbside Pickup: CHRISTMAS TREES Week of January 4, 2015 Mon thru Fri pickup See website FOR YOUR PICK UP DAY Trees must be free of decorations and stands.
