2 In this pamphlet you will find information on the disposal of waste in the city of Heilbronn. All Collection dates and Call cards for bulky waste can be seen in the current Waste Guide Abfallratgeber, which is distributed annually to all households or on the internet at: (Abfallentsorgung). The ordering of the following waste refuse containers is possible at any civic office or direct from the disposal service: Residual Waste Organic Waste Waste Paper Recycling Container Container Blue Container Yellow Container Restmüllbehälter Biotonne Blaue Tonne Gelbe Tonne (40, 60, 80, 120, (60, 80, 120, (240 litres) (240 litres) 240 litres) 240 litres)

3 For multi-family houses, large waste refuse containers will also be available: Residual waste container (Restmüllgroßbehälter) (660, litres); Waste paper blue container (Blaue Tonne) (1.100 liters); Recycling yellow container (Gelbe Tonne) (1.100 litres). These are ordered by the property manager or landlord. Deregistration of Waste refuse Containers The waste refuse containers are owned by the city of Heilbronn. Before moving away, the disposal company (Entsorgungsbetriebe) (department: Abfallgebühren, Cäcilienstr. 49, Heilbronn) must be given written notice so that they can be collected. Residual Waste (Restmüll / Restmülltonne) Every household in the city of Heilbronn is obliged to use a Residual waste container (Restmüllbehälter) or share (in the case of joint residency). Containers must be available in at least the following sizes per household or shared households (larger containers have to be chosen where more refuse is produced): 2-weekly Collection up to 2 people up to 4 people up to 6 people up to 10 people up to 22 people min. Container Capacity 1 Person 40-litres up to 2 people 80-litres up to 4 people 120-litres up to 10 people 240-litres Belonging to Residual Waste Containers: e.g. ash, broken glass, light bulbs, toiletries, cat litter, ceramics, sweepings, leather scraps, paint brushes, porcelain, cloth, wallpaper, foam, mirrors, toys, vacuum cleaner bags, underwear, nappies, cigarette butts Not belonging to Residual Waste Containers: e.g. glass, paper, batteries, organic waste, electrical equipment, pollutants, packaging Residual waste containers must be positioned on the roadside with a closed lid before 7am on the day of collection!

4 Waste Refuse Fees The waste refuse fees are levied by an annual fee notification sent to every household by post. Stamps for Residual waste containers (Restmüllbehälter) and the Organic waste containers (Biotonne) are sent with the fee notification. No stamps are required for the recycling yellow and waste paper containers (Gelbe Tonne, Blaue Tonne). For households in large residential estates that jointly use containers, the waste refuse fee settlement will be made by the property management. Organic Waste Container (Bioabfälle / Biotonne) Organic waste must be separated from other waste in the organic waste container (Biotonne). Whoever can demonstrate that they produce their own composting from their organic waste in their own garden do not require an organic waste container. Belonging to Organic Waste: salad-, vegetable-, and fruit residues, solid food remnants, nut shells, ground coffee and tea leaves (with filter), eggshells, potted plants, cut flowers (without wire binding), feathers, hair, tissues, paper napkins, fallen fruit, leaves, weeds, cut grass Not belonging to Organic waste: e.g. nappies, sanitary rowels, liquid residues, vacuum cleaner bags, ash, cigarette butts, sweepings, plastic bags, tin cans, aluminum foil, beverage cartons, textiles, leather, wool, wood Organic Waste Containers must be positioned on the roadside before 7am on the day of collection!

5 Recycling Yellow Container / Bag (Gelbe Tonne, Gelber Sack) In the recycling yellow container (Gelbe Tonne) or recycling yellow bag (Gelber Sack), plastic, composite or metal packaging are collected. Please, where possible, fill with clean or emptied packaging! Beverage cartons, tin cans, plastic bottles etc. should be squeezed flat! Recycling yellow bags are available at any civic office! Belonging in the Recycling Yellow bag / container: Plastic packaging: e.g. plastic bags, wrapping film, plastic bottles (from detergents, cosmetics, etc.) containers (from dairy products, margarine, etc.) PET bottles Composite packaging: e.g. beverage or milk cartons Metal packaging: e.g. food cans, lids, aluminum foil, tin cans Not belonging to the Recycling Yellow bag / container: Paper / cardboard or glass packaging (these belong to the waste paper or glass collecting containers). Residual waste, plastic items, pollutants etc. Recycling yellow bags must be positioned on the roadside before 7am on the day of collection! Glass (Altglas) There are 114 glass collection locations in the city and at all recycling centres, different coloured glass can be disposed of in separate containers. Belonging to waste glass: cleaned glass containers e.g. beverage bottles, jars, edible oil or sauce bottles, spirit bottles, glass vials Not belonging to waste glass: e.g. window glass, mirrors, glass sheets, bulbs, tube lights, energy saving lights, glass vases, heat-resistant glass (thermos flasks etc.) ceramics, porcelain

6 Waste Paper / Blue Container (Altpapier / Blaue Tonne) Waste paper and cardboard can either be put into the waste paper blue container (Blaue Tonne) or taken to a recycling centre (Recyclinghof). Waste paper blue containers are provided on loan, free of charge. Belonging to the Waste paper blue container: e.g. books, exercise books, catalogues, cardboard cartons, brochures, newspapers, magazines, paper or cardboard packaging Not belonging to the Waste paper blue container: e.g. coated, dirty or waxed paper, tissue wipes carbon or parchment paper, disposable paper plates, beverage cartons, wallpaper Waste paper blue containers must be positioned on the roadside before 7am on the day of collection! Pollutants (Schadstoffe) For the disposal of pollutants, mobile pollutant collections are made at various locations in Heilbronn. Dates and locations can be found in the current Waste Refuse Guide (Abfallratgeber) or on the internet at: (Abfallentsorgung, Abfallratgeber)! Belonging to the Pollutant collection: e.g. batteries, chemicals, energy saving lights, paints, adhesives, varnishes, nail polish removers, oil cans, pesticides, toilet cleaners Not belonging to the Pollutant collection: e.g. Asbestos-containing waste, electrical appliances, tires

7 Recycling Centres (Recyclinghöfe) In a total of eight municipal recycling centres (Recyclinghöfe), the following recyclables are accepted free of charge up to a certain household quantity: used clothing, scrap metal, waste paper, batteries (no car batteries), CDs/ DVDs small electrical appliances (e.g. hairdryers, coffee machines, telephones, cell phones, shavers) energy saving lights, bottle corks, recycling yellow bags, glass, green waste (up to 2 m 3 ), wood, cartons, plastic items, tube lights, shoes, used edible fat Addresses and opening hours of the Recycling Centres (Recyclinghöfe) Recycling Centre Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Biberach Heisenbergstr Böckingen Leonhardstraße Horkheim Untere Kanalstraße Frankenbach Würzburger Straße Heilbronn-Nord Salzstr. 136 (Betriebsamt) Heilbronn-Ost Im Wannental Heilbronn-Süd Lise-Meitner-Straße Deponie Vogelsang Wartberg

8 Bulky Waste (Sperrmüll) Bulky waste, scrap metal and large electrical appliances can be registered for collection, once a year, per household. To register, a valid calling card (Abrufkarte) for the current year has to be used, which can be found in the current Waste Refuse Guide (Abfallratgeber) or on the internet at (Abfallentsorgung, Formulare). The collection occurs within four weeks from the time of registration. The date of collection will be given in written notification. No bulky waste should be placed on the roadside before the given date! The maximum bulky waste quantity is limited to three cubic metres (3x1x1 metres) per registration! Belonging to Bulky Waste: Bulky household items, like items that do not fit in the residual waste container because of their size and items or when moving houses, e.g. all types of furniture, mattresses, suitcases, laundry baskets, pushchairs Scrap metal (e.g. bicycles, stoves (no oil), pots, pipes) and large electrical appliances (washing machines, dishwashers, stoves, fridges, televisions, monitors) please place separately from the bulky waste. Not belonging to Bulky Waste: Residual waste (refuse that fits into residual waste containers or refuse bags), recyclable waste (e.g. cartons, old clothes), pollutants, car spare parts, tires, renovation waste (e.g. windows, lumber, construction debris, panels, doors, wallpaper remnants, flooring, wash basins, toilets) By handing over a completed collection card, bulky waste items up to three cubic metres can also be self deposited at the disposal site, free of charge. Further bulky waste collection is possible at an additional fee. Please contact the appropriate waste refuse office.

9 Disposal Site Vogelsang (Deponie Vogelsang) Address: Wartberg, Heilbronn Opening hours: Monday - Friday 8 am 12 noon / 1 pm pm; Saturday 8 am - 12 noon The disposal site must be vacated at the specified closing time! Accepted are the following: - Residual waste Waste refuse that cannot be disposed of via the public residual waste collection (accepted at a fee). - Bulky Waste Bulky waste items from households. By handing over a completed collection card, bulky waste up to 3 cubic metres can be disposed of free of charge (one disposal per call card and per year). For larger quantities or for mixed waste (e.g. residual and bulky waste) a fee will be charged on the total amount! - Renovation Waste Windows, doors, flooring, blinds, wallpaper remnants, construction polystyrene etc. (accepted at a fee). - Green Waste Tree-, shrub cuttings, leaves, plant debris (up to 2 m³ accepted free of charge). - Electrical appliances Small electrical appliances (e.g. hairdryers, coffee machines, telephones, cell phones, shavers) large electrical appliances (e.g. Washing machines, dishwashers, stoves, fridges, televisions, computers) (accepted free of charge).
