Our representatives routinely speak at universities, postdoctoral institutions, and industry conferences throughout the United States on topics pertaining to career development and industry opportunities for individuals with scientific and technical training. Attendees learn how to prepare and structure a job search and how to utilize informational interviewing as a means of identifying promising careers and employers. Emphasis is placed on the effective use of social media tools, such as LinkedIn to research companies and roles. Seminar Series 3 Communicating Your Skills and Experiences: This seminar series is designed to polish verbal and written communications skills in anticipation of networking events and interviews. Personal branding is discussed with emphasis on developing a positive professional brand. Our representatives provide insight into what companies look for when they identify and evaluate talent. With that insight, attendees are shown where best to network, how to prepare for an interview, what to ask during an interview, typical interview formats and questions, and how to follow up so as to leave a positive, lasting impression. Building a Positive Online Personal Brand: Using LinkedIn, Blogs and Other Social Media Tools Networking Insights: An Overview of Networking Events, Resources and Organizations Acing the Interview Seminar Series 4 Cultivating Long Term Success: This seminar series is designed to provide advice on how to cultivate your network to build meaningful relationships, develop your leadership skills and create opportunities to enhance your thought leadership as you advance in your career. Networking Insights 2: Best Practices to Network and Follow Up Becoming a Leader: Cultivating Leadership Skills for Career Advancement Tips for Following Up and Maintaining Your Network After You Land a Job

Seminar descriptions are below: Overview of Career Opportunities in the Life Sciences Sector This comprehensive seminar provides an overview of career opportunities in the life sciences sector with emphasis on the various skills, aptitudes, competencies, and personalities that thrive in this sector. Both research and non research career paths such as consulting, product development and business development are discussed. Our representatives discuss the importance of transferable skills and how to highlight these for specific roles. Propel will also provide advice on networking to identify career opportunities, ways to utilize informational interviewing and tips on resumes and cover letters. How to Evaluate, Build, and Highlight Transferable and Career Relevant Skills In this seminar, Propel Careers will provide insight on how to evaluate transferable skills and which skills are valued in various careers. Through this seminar, Propel will highlight common non scientific skills that scientists can apply towards their desired career. Propel will provide guidance on how to package scientific and non scientific skills on resumes, cover letters, and during interviews. Looking your Best on Paper: Building a Resume and Cover Letter for Industry In this seminar, Propel Careers will discuss how to highlight your experiences and skills on a resume and cover letter. The importance of tailoring these documents will be emphasized. Our representatives will provide tips for industry focused format, content, and structure so that your knowledge and expertise is evident. For individuals transitioning from academia to industry, a technical role to a business oriented role, or transferring from one industry to another, this seminar will discuss how to highlight transferable skills. Career Search Strategy: How to Identify Opportunities and Roles and Best Practices for Job Searching In this seminar, Propel Careers representatives will discuss how to prepare a search strategy to identify the relevant companies and/or roles for your background. This includes strategy on self awareness, informational interviewing, company research using LinkedIn and other news sources, and awareness of networking events to attend. Propel will discuss tips to accelerate your search and maintain focus. The job Search Process: What Companies Look for When Evaluating Talent In this seminar, Propel Careers will provide insight on the job search process and what companies look for when evaluating talent. Propel will discuss the importance of tailoring a resume and cover letter for a specific position. Propel Careers will also discuss how companies utilize resume databases and LinkedIn to identify talent. Propel will provide tips on how candidates can standout from the crowd. Informational Interviewing: An excellent way to enhance your career search In this seminar, Propel Careers will discuss the important role that informational interviewing plays in a career search. Propel Careers will provide advice on how to identify individuals for an informational interview, how to structure the interview and what questions to ask. Propel will also provide advice on how to follow up after the discussion to build meaningful connections.

Building a Positive On line personal brand: Using LinkedIn, Blogs, and other Social Media Tools In this seminar, Propel Careers provides guidance for how to build and develop a professional on line personal brand using sites like LinkedIn, twitter, facebook, and blogs. Propel will discuss the importance of highlighting your background and experiences and ways to develop thought leadership to compliment your resume. Propel will discuss how companies utilize these tools to identify talent. Propel will also discuss ways to leverage these tools to identify career opportunities. Networking Insights: An Overview of Networking Events, Resources and Organizations In this seminar, Propel Careers will discuss various ways to utilize networking events, organizations, conferences and other resources to aid in a career search. Propel will also cover news sources and websites that are relevant to gain information about specific research areas or industry trends for different areas of the life sciences sector. Propel will also discuss how to utilize these sources to identify companies of interest and how to follow up with them for career opportunities. Acing the Interview In this seminar, Propel Careers will provide advice for how to succeed during an interview, whether phone, skype, in person one on one or panel setting. Our representatives will provide insight on what hiring managers look for when conducting interviews as well as sample interview questions and with their (preferred) types of responses. Propel will also provide tips on research that a candidate can do to make sure they have relevant background information on the company and interviewers. Becoming a Leader Cultivating Leadership Skills for Career Advancement This seminar focuses on cultivating leadership skills during a Ph.D. or postdoctoral program. Tangible examples will be provided on how to become involved with student clubs, academic groups, industry organizations, non profit organizations, and networking groups to build leadership, management, presentation, communication, networking, and interpersonal skills. Leadership ability is tremendously valuable as you build your career and is sought after by employers. Tips for Following up and maintaining your Network after you Land a Job Networking is not only done when searching for an opportunity. This is a lifelong skill that should be practiced regularly.
