Kodiak Island Borough GIS Map This interactive map has several useful tools that assist in viewing and finding spatial information. These can be found in the upper left portion of the screen: Zoom Buttons These buttons will zoom in or out by a factor of 2 Home Button (Default Extent) This button will return you to the default extent of the map (as shown above).
Find my location This button will zoom the map into your current location and place a blue dot on the screen. This is more useful when the map is displayed on a device that is location aware (like a smartphone or tablet). Layers This button will display the GIS layers (in the upper-right portion of the screen) that are turned on by default and allow you to enable/disable layers. The layer names that are greyed out in the view below, show that these layers are not drawn at the current zoom level.
Overview Map This button will display an overview map in the upper-right portion of the screen. This map will change based on the current extent in the main window Measure This button will display a window of tools used the measure the area, distance or location of the web map
To measure an area: Select the Area tool; Start measuring by clicking on a point on the map; Continue clicking on the exterior boundary corners of the polygon; Double-click when finished. The result will show at the bottom of the window. For different units of measure, select them from the drop down list. To measure a distance: Select the Distance tool; Start measuring by clicking on a point on the map; Continue clicking on each point along the distance to be measured; Double-click when finished. The result will show at the bottom of the window. For different units of measure, select them from the drop down list. To measure a location: Select the Location tool; Navigate to the desired location and click on the map. A marker will be placed on the map at that location and the coordinates displayed in the Measure tool window. The Measure tool window will also display the current location of the mouse cursor. The units of measure can be changed between Decimal Degrees and Degrees, Minutes, Seconds in the drop down list.
Details This tool will display information about the map: Share This tool will allow sharing of the map via Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Email or display a short link to the map. The current map extent can be embedded in sharing link. Maps can also be embedded in a web page by using the code provided in the Embed Map window.
Print This tool will display a Print window that will allow the current map on screen to be printed in a few formats. The Print button will produce a PDF that can be downloaded or printed from with the web browser. Bookmarks This tool will display a list of bookmarks that have pre-defined map extents. Clicking on any of the entries will zoom the map to the extent of the area.
Search Bar The dropdown button and search field area in the upper-left portion of the screen allow searching for data on the map. Entering a property ID into the field and pressing enter will zoom the map directly to the queried property. Entering a street number and name will populate a dropdown list that will allow for the selection of suggested addresses. Selecting Tax Parcels from the dropdown will limit the search to property IDs. Selecting ESRI World Geocoder will focus the search on street addresses. The street address results are approximate and may not return the correct results. Map Information The Leases and TaxParcel layers will provide detailed information from the underlying data if the map is clicked on. The detailed information contains attributes about the property from the Borough s Assessing database.
