JOB DESCRIPTION POST: University Centre Cleaner/Caretaker DATE: May 2016 SERVICE: Estates & Facilities Services POST NO: EFS-N16 STARTING DATE: As soon as possible SALARY RANGE: Grade 2, 15,258 to 16,017 per annum (equivalent to 7.91 to 8.30 per hour- minimum salary level not below the Living Wage) HOURS: Full time, 37 hours per week INDEFINITE/FIED TERM: Indefinite REPORTING TO: THE POST Deputy Campus Manager (Non-Residences) The post involves cleaning and porterage duties within the University Centre (UC) to ensure that it is ready for use at all times. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Room set-ups in accordance with instruction from the Campus team regarding conference and academic requirements Reporting maintenance requirements to the Supervisor (non-residences), monitoring fault rectification and reporting any work outstanding to the Supervisor (non-residences) Reporting any misuse of the spaces within the building to the Supervisor (nonresidences)/site Steward on duty Check, clean and re-stock all toilets in UC at regular intervals during the day, to ensure standards of service are maintained Clean and re-set all areas during the day to ensure the UC is clean and ready for use at all times Maintain an inventory of all furniture and equipment in the UC. Carry out regular room inspections in accordance with guidelines reporting any losses or defects to Supervisor (non-residences) Ensure all cleaning machinery is charged, cleaned and emptied each day and kept in good working order, reporting faults to the Supervisor if needed Removal of waste and collection and disposal of recyclable material throughout the building on a daily basis Ensure that corridors and circulation spaces front and back of house are kept clean and clear of obstacles at all time and that all fire exits remain unobstructed at all times

Ensure all cardboard is baled correctly and stored safely on a daily basis To set out and put away the bleacher seating as and when required General Cleaning duties to be carried out according to specification to include: Collection and removal of all rubbish from the building Sanitising toilets Sweeping, vacuuming and mopping of floors both front and back of house Circulation areas throughout the designated building The inside face of all windows/doors and glass Any other tasks assigned by the Supervisor (non-residences)/deputy Campus Manager (non res)/campus Manager The person appointed will be required to undertake such other duties which may be allocated by the Supervisor (non-residences)/deputy Campus Manager (non-residences)/ Campus Manager/Director of Campus and Conference Services. DETAILED CLEANING SPECIFICATION These tasks should be carried out daily unless specified although these may vary according to which building the post holder is working in. General Tasks All power cords for mains operated equipment should be checked on a daily basis prior to use All cleaning chemicals should be kept in a secure area in line with Health and Safety policy All equipment should be kept clean and in good working order e.g. mop heads should be cleaned in a suitable cleaning solution, cleaning cupboards should be kept clean and tidy at all times, the outside casings of hoovers should be cleaned after every use and the bags checked to ensure they are not full Suitable warning signs should be put out when using mains powered equipment and during mopping tasks Toilets and Washrooms Toilets/urinals should be clean and free from scale and soiling on external and internal surfaces Washbasins should be clean and free from scale and soiling on both external and internal surfaces Mirrors should be clean and free from smears Floors to be mopped daily using correct cleaning agent leaving floor free from dirt and stains Tiles/walls should be clean and free from marks Toilet brush holders should be clean Paper supplies and hand soap to be replaced/refilled on a daily basis Waste bins to be emptied and bags changed daily

The role holder will be fully consulted on any proposed amendments. CONDITIONS OF SERVICE The appointment will be at Grade 2, with a salary range of 15,258 to 15,632 per annum and annual incremental progression within this range. An upper salary of 16,017 per annum will be available to those who, having gained considerable experience relevant to the role, are able to demonstrate added value through activities or contribution which are over and above the normal expectations for the role. Starting salary will be dependent on qualifications and experience but minimum salary level will not be below the Living Wage. Salary is paid monthly in arrears by direct credit transfer on the last working day of each month.

Your normal centre of duty will be the University Centre. However, you may be required to work in any part or department of the University or as otherwise required by the due performance of your duties and responsibilities. Normal hours of work will be 37 per week to be worked 5 days in 7 by arrangement with the Supervisor (non-residences)/deputy Campus Manager/Campus Manager. The post holder will work on a rota basis, which will include weekend shifts in order to meet the operational needs of the University, therefore flexibility regarding hours of work is essential. These hours may be subject to change in order to meet with the operational demands of the University. The appointment will, in an appropriate case, be subject to a probationary period of 6 months. The annual leave year runs from 1 August to 31 July. Holiday entitlement is 21 days per annum, plus Bank holidays and two extra statutory days. A proportion of the entitlement is allowed pro rata for part-time staff working less than five days per week and/or not throughout the year, and for all support staff during first leave year at the University. Holiday entitlement is increased by five days on completing five years service prior to the commencement of a leave year on 1 August. Other terms and conditions of employment appropriate to this post and grade apply in addition to those referred to in this statement. Facilities Staff catering facilities are available. West Downs Day Nursery - is situated within the grounds of The University of Winchester. The nursery offers care for children from the age of six weeks to five years in a stimulating and homely environment. The nursery provides 62 places each day from 7.30am to 6.15pm on a full time or sessional basis.
