1 POSITION AVAILABLE PART-TIME FILL-IN COURTHOUSE CUSTODIAN Opening available for a part-time fill-in custodian for general cleaning and maintenance of Granite County Courthouse and grounds when regular custodian is not available. Must have or be able to obtain a third class boiler operator's license. 2 GRANITE COUNTY POSITION DESCRIPTION FEBRUARY 2009 POSITION: Custodian, Part-Time Fill-In DEPARTMENT: County Buildings ACCOUNT ABLE TO: County Commissioners SUMMARY OF WORK: Position is responsible for keeping the county buildings and complexes clean, tidy, and safe from hazards when regular custodian is not available. Provides general maintenance, security, and cleaning for courthouse building and grounds in the absence of the regular custodian. This position must be able to work after office hours and during the evenings. Availability on short notice preferred. JOB CHARACTERISTICS: Nature of Work: This position performs custodial duties requiring physical labor and exertion to clean in the absence of the regular custodian. Position must adhere to safety procedures and techniques at all times. Position must be able to work flexible hours including after office hours. Hazards of position include dealing with chemicals, slippery surfaces, and vibrating electrical equipment. Position requires adherence to safety standards in working with boiler, cleaning materials, and lawn equipment. Personal Contacts: Daily contact with the public and other employees. Coordinates schedule of cleaning with the office personnel. Supervision Received: Position is self-directed. Instructions from the Board of County Commissioners and suggestions from Department Heads as needed through face to face meetings or written memos. Essential Functions: Position must be able to: sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, operate hand and power tools, climb stairs, paint, do plumbing and minor electrical work, empty garbage cans, lift up to 50 pounds, occasionally move up to 100 pounds, visually inspect areas, operate cleaning equipment, wash walls, and climb ladders.

3 AREAS OF JOB ACCOUNT ABILITY AND PERFORMANCE: --Checks, repairs, and services boiler on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, as recommended by manufacturer, when regular custodian is not available. --Does limited painting, minor electrical repair and plumbing. Changes pipes and does toilet repair, when necessary is absence of regular custodian. --Sweeps, vacuums, mops, dusts, shampoos, strips wax, polishes and buffs floors and carpets in absence of regular custodian. --Removes garbage, cleans restrooms, replenishes supplies and cleans drinking fountains in absence of regular custodian. --Mops all main floors daily in absence of regular custodian. --Cleans all offices in the building weekly in absence of regular custodian. --Washes windows, mirrors, walls, and cleans fixtures. --Maintains custodial equipment in proper operating condition. --Provides for building security; opens buildings for meetings. --Cleans, mows, and landscapes courthouse grounds in summer. --Provides for snow removal in winter. --Raises and lowers flags on business days. Locks building when shift is completed. --Maintains boiler and security of building during holidays and weekends. --Maintains and inspects county offices and buildings for repairs and damages. --May be called in to assist regular custodian with special projects, as needed. --Performs other related duties as required. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge: This position requires knowledge of: boilers, plumbing, cleaning and maintenance, cleaning chemicals and equipment, safety procedures and techniques. 2

4 Skills: This position requires skills in plumbing, painting, cleaning equipment, and general maintenance of buildings and grounds. Abilities: This position requires the ability to: be self-disciplined; perform strenuous physical tasks; operate hand and power tools; follow safety procedures and techniques; communicate; follow verbal or written instructions; complete tasks in a timely manner; establish effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public; maintain confidentiality of information obtained during routine cleaning. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: The above knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to: --A High School diploma or GED equivalent. --Some experience with cleaning, cleaning chemicals and equipment preferred. -- Must possess or acquire a current 3rct class boiler operator's license. JOB PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: Evaluation of this position will be based primarily upon performance of the preceding requirements and duties. Examples of job performance criteria include, but are not limited to, the following: --Performs assigned duties. --Checks boiler on a daily basis. --Effectively sweeps, vacuums, mops, dusts, shampoos, strips wax, polishes and buffs floors and carpets. --Promptly removes all garbage. --Effectively cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies. --Competently washes walls and windows. --Provides for a clean, safe environment in the courthouse.

5 --Effectively maintains lawns and grounds. --Follows safety procedures and techniques in cleaning and maintenance activities, at all times. --Maintains custodial equipment in proper operating condition. --Raises and lowers flags daily. --Makes sure building is locked upon leaving. --Deals tactfully and courteously with the public. --Observes work hours. --Demonstrates punctuality. --Maintains accurate and timely records. --Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and the public. --Maintains confidentiality of information. 4
