I was already working as an IT Technician but fully self-educated. The advanced diploma gave me a far greater understanding of the many facets of my job, and helped me comprehend the reasons for performing the many tasks I regularly undertake. The Gordon ticked all the boxes for me. The course prepares you with a lot of hands-on training as well as the necessary theory, the facilities and staff are great and it is conveniently located. I am currently self-employed as an IT Technician, providing all forms of IT support to small business and home users. The most rewarding aspects of my job are being able to solve peoples IT problems, and enable correct functionality of their hardware and software. In the future I would like to gain employment as a Systems Administrator in a medium to large corporate environment. I was looking for a career that could work around my young family s needs. The IT industry offers a large range of varied roles and there will always be roles for skilled workers. I find I learn better in a hands-on environment and as a Geelong resident, The Gordon was the logical choice. I started with Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology and enjoyed it so much I decided to continue with the advanced diploma. I am currently a technician at a local school, where my role includes supporting the school s computer systems and networking. No two days are the same, the work is always varied and keeps you thinking on your feet. The most exciting aspects of my job are getting to work with new technologies that are always evolving. The IT industry offers some amazing opportunities for those willing to take it on.
