Wadham College Wadham is one of the largest of the colleges of the University of Oxford, with approximately 450 undergraduates, 170 postgraduates, around 70 Fellows and over 100 staff. Founded in 1610, Wadham celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2010. It has an annual turnover of some 10M and reserves in excess of 100M. Wadham attracts undergraduate and postgraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds thanks to its informal atmosphere, academic strength, historic environment and the open-minded, progressive and socially aware attitude of its community. The College s Governing Body consists of the Warden and Fellows and is chaired by the Warden. The current Warden is Lord Macdonald QC, one of the country s top criminal lawyers and a former Director of Public Prosecutions. Development Office The Development Director is a Fellow of Wadham and is responsible for alumni relations and fundraising for the College. The Development Director manages a team of approximately 8 staff and sits on a number of College committees including the College s Governing Body, the Development Committee and the Development Council. The office environment is extremely busy throughout the year organising a large number of high-profile events in the UK and abroad. Job Description Responsibilities and duties Wadham seeks to appoint an experienced, driven, and creative candidate as our Annual Fund Manager in the College s Development Office. The Annual Fund Manager will lead and develop the College s highly successful Annual Fund regular giving programme. Currently the Wadham Annual Fund brings in over 800K in income, with a 23% alumni participation rate each year one of Oxford s highest. The Wadham Annual Fund is one of the central pillars of the College s ongoing fundraising strategy and we are currently reaping the benefits of a number of recent innovative campaigns. These duties are a guide to the work that the post holder will initially be required to undertake. They may change from time to time to meet changing circumstances. Normal office hours are 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday. However, the post holder will be expected to work such hours as are reasonably required to carry out their duties to the satisfaction of the Deputy Development Director. Some travel may be required. The College s development is at an important juncture and the incoming Annual Fund Manager will have a unique opportunity to guide the direction of this successful programme to the next level. Job Description Fundraising Plan and execute an Annual Fund strategy to include direct mail, digital and telephone campaigns. To work independently on special fundraising projects as directed by the Development Director and the Deputy Development Director which may include campaigns to raise money from graduating students, parents, or reunion groups. To optimise philanthropic support for the College and to adhere to best practice in prospect cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. This will involve collaboration with other development staff in line with agreed principles and protocols. Manage relations with donors supporting particular scholarships and prizes, to be agreed with the Development Director and in liaison with the Tutorial Office. Liaise with the University Development Office as required. To ensure that a current and accurate record of all development strategy and activity for which the Annual Fund Manager is responsible be maintained on the Development Office s database. General duties Participate in the planning of alumni communications which may involve newsletter articles, donor reports, email bulletins, information on the website and other communication tools. Use DARS database systems to a very high level, specifically: Run queries. Export data for all fundraising campaigns, particularly student telephone fundraising programmes and direct mail. Plan and execute appropriate segmentation for fundraising campaigns. Record progress with individual prospects and report on proposals in play. Analyse results from fundraising campaigns. Other such duties relating to the work of the Development Office as may be assigned from time to time by the Development Director or Deputy Development Director. To maintain strict confidentiality at all times. To undertake any job-related training requested by the College. To work as part of a busy team. Job Description Selection Criteria Essential A good general level of education, ideally at degree standard or equivalent. Demonstrable experience of working in a similar development role or fundraising environment. Demonstrable experience of being involved in the smooth running of events and projects involving multiple stakeholders. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate with alumni, staff, students and visitors. Experience of working in a small and busy team. Excellent numeracy and literacy skills. Ability to work under pressure to strict deadlines, multi-tasking and prioritising as necessary. Exceptional attention to detail. Windows-based computer skills (including Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and experience using relational databases (such as DARS or The Raiser s Edge). Ability to follow and carry out management instructions. To maintain college confidentiality at all times. Be able to work on own initiative and as part of a busy team. To maintain development by undertaking training suitable to the post. To problem solve using initiative within bounds of competency. To have a flexible attitude towards scheduling and duties and work evenings and weekends when required. Integrity, reliability and discretion. To be presentable and maintain dress and department standards. Desirable Previous experience of working in large institutions in an educational environment e.g. schools, colleges, universities etc. Experience in mass mail solicitation or telephone fundraising. Terms & Conditions Department Development Office Salary 27,057-32,277 pa, discretionary to 35,256 pa, depending on skills and experience (Grade 6 of the University of Oxford Salary scale) Hours of Work Due to the level of the post the hours of work are not prescriptive and the post holder is expected to be flexible to meet the demands of the role (no less than 37.5 hours a week). Normal office working days are Monday to Friday. Contract Type Additional Information The post holder will be entitled to take a free lunch when on duty and the kitchen is open. Holiday entitlement will be 30 days including the College s closed periods of five days at Christmas, plus bank holidays. Due to operational requirements, you may be required to work on any of the bank holidays, for which time off in lieu will be provided. The Colleges operates a contributory pension scheme (subject to eligibility). The College operates a staff bonus scheme and there is opportunity to join the Colleges health care scheme. Parking is not available; however the College provides a bus pass scheme. Permanent following a satisfactory completion of a 6 month probationary period.
