Placements What our students say Jessica Taylor BSc (Hons) Children s Nursing I really enjoy studying Children s Nursing at LSBU. The staff are so friendly and I have learnt so much and developed my skills in so many varied areas. I love the practical skills sessions. Being a kinetic learner, it really helps me to learn in a way that best suits me. My current placement is at Great Ormond Street Hospital and it is such an amazing opportunity to put into practice all I have learnt. I also really enjoyed my community placement at a learning disability school. I am passionate about caring for sick children and their families and so by becoming a registered nurse, I am on my way to achieving my goals. As a children s nursing student, you will spend approximately 50% of your course on clinical placement, learning from qualified and experienced practitioners. These exciting learning experiences will provide you with the skills and expertise to become a safe and proficient children s nurse and prepare you to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Your placements will be at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Evelina Children s Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, University College London Hospital or King s College Hospital. You will also have a placement in the community. As a Havering contracted student, your placements will be at Queen s Hospital in Romford, Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone, and King George Hospital in Goodmayes, along with a placement in the community. Emma Eldred BSc (Hons) Children s Nursing When I left school I worked as a community nursery nurse in a Health Visiting team at a local Trust. I really enjoyed the role and was keen to progress into Children s Nursing. I had met some LSBU students on placement in my workplace and they all spoke highly of the course. So when I found out my employer had links with LSBU and offered to sponsor my degree, I jumped at the opportunity. You need to be really self-motivated to study nursing. The best thing about LSBU is the support from teachers they are always on hand to help. I like the fact you can learn your practical skills at uni so you feel more prepared and confident when you go out on placement.
