Mixing business & leisure 24/7 will lead to greater stress.

2. US Airlines will continue to lose share of total passenger miles traveled. Decade ending 2003, air travel down 4.7%. Business travel: electronic face to face. Leisure travel: I ll fly if I have to. Airport hassels, airline service low. Americans will fly less and drive more.

3. Regional drive to resorts will attract more guests than national fly to resorts. Decade ending 2003, auto travel up 12.4%. Americans togethering closer to home. Getaway with 8 10 extended family & friends. Fear of flying, avoiding hassels, threats. More and more families will drive 200 miles and pay $200 for a suite at a regional resort with waterpark, family entertainment center.

4. Business travel will become more an elective and less a requirement. In decade ending 2003, business & convention travel fell 15%. Travel no longer required for business. During same period, leisure travel rose 16%. Leisure travelers and families remain the backbone of hotel & travel industry.

5. Americans will become more time impoverished. More people work from home, telecommute. However, our workday is now 1 hour longer. Cells phones have reduced weekends, taken away Saturdays and nights out. Workweek now averages over 48 hours. 76% of Americans now seek relief 2X adults look forward to spa vacation.

6. Mixing business & leisure 24/7 will lead to greater stress. People working at home and in virtual offices will experience more problems with priorities. Opportunity for spas, resorts to help people reduce stress.

7. Never disconnecting will cause greater stress. Always in touch gives sense of control. But takes toll on physical and mental health. Greater stress causes relationships to suffer and productivity to decline. When is it time to rest, relax and re create? Resorts can be part of the solution.

Rise in mixed use resort developments Components: lodging, restaurants, retail plazas, offices, nightclubs, movie theaters, fitness centers, health spas, recreation centers, sports facilities, entertainment centers, waterparks, surfparks and whitewater river courses

9. Resorts will become more like theme parks. New resorts will showcase regional pride, culture and geography. Meeting planners will call on resort managers to program both time and space. Provide settings for business, learning, participation, play and entertainment. Smart resorts will move from providing space to providing an experience.

Themed resorts and large scale attractions being designed into regional shopping complexes, amusement parks, convention centers, riverfronts, downtown revitalization projects and vacation home communities. Reaching back country to find whitewater takes time and money vs a simulated whitewater rafting trip close to home. Simulators are flexible; indoor facilities are conveniently close by.

15. Seasonal resorts will become year round operations. Traditionally, resorts highly seasonal. Revenues 100 days, expenses 365. Profits dependent upon weather. In the future, resorts will design facilities to each season and capture year round revenues.

16. Resorts will build more and more indoor recreation facilities. Every outdoor sporting activity will have an indoor version. Golfing, snow skiing, snowboarding, skateboarding, surfboarding, kayaking, rafting, swimming, hiking, biking and rock climbing. During inclement weather while on vacation, indoor recreation facilities will save the day for the guest and preserve the revenue for the operator.

Indoor outdoor versions of whitewater river parks. All included in a mixed use resort development.
