Find the program that's right for you Whether training for immediate entry into the workplace, changing careers or updating your professional skills, PHCC will get you job ready and success bound. PHCC offers a variety of options, some that can be completed in as little as one semester. Many fast-track programs prepare students for high-demand careers within one year. Outlined below are the different types of career degrees and certificate programs offered at PHCC. Each varies in length and purpose. Speak with an academic advisor to determine the right path for your success. Associate in Science Programs The Associate in Science (AS) degree is designed to prepare students for immediate employment in the workforce. Students must earn a minimum of 62 college credit hours, mostly degree-specified courses and related courses. Credits earned for many courses in these programs are acceptable to upper division colleges, should you decide to pursue a four-year degree. Associate in Applied Science Programs The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree is a two-year degree that leads to employment in the workforce and is not intended for transfer to a four-year institution. College Credit Certificate Programs Focusing on a specific job or set of skills, these programs require fewer credits than an Associate in Science degree. The credits earned from the certificates will apply to the related AS degree program. They provide quick training to get you into the workforce. Additional courses may be taken to advance career options. Applied Technology Diplomas Applied Technology Diplomas (ATD) offer streamlined training in specific occupations. Courses in these diplomas include professional and technical material, with an emphasis on practical application. PHCC program completers may receive credit for ATD hours toward specific Associate in Science degrees. A high school diploma or GED is required for entry into these programs. Dual Enrollment Program Earn FREE college credit while in high school. Dual Enrollment is designed for academically talented students who want to accelerate their college careers. Dual Enrollment offsets college expenses, shortens the time needed to earn a degree and allows for a reduction in course-load per term when attending college full-time. Visit phcc.edu/academics/dualenrollment/ for eligibility requirements and enrollment information. Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) Ever considered becoming a teacher, but don't have the time for the drastic career move? The EPI provides the opportunity to become a certified teacher in as little as seven months to individuals with a bachelor s degree from regionally-accredited institutions. Gain a solid foundation in classroom management, pedagogy and instructional strategies that will enable you to enter the classroom with the skills and confidence you need to be a successful educator. Courses are offered evenings at the New Port Richey campus or online. Visit phcc.edu/epi/ for more information about enrollment procedures, tuition, schedules and program costs. GED Preparation PHCC is a preparation and testing site for General Educational Development (GED). Complete your high school equivalent diploma in the comfort of a college environment with other adult students and work online at your own pace. Students may also enroll in some of PHCC s technical certificate courses to develop job skills while working toward a GED. Technical Credit Certificate Programs Technical Credit Certificate programs provide focused training in select occupational fields. Students in these programs earn technical credit, which may count as college credit transferable to a university through statewide articulation agreements. Upon successful completion, students are eligible for positions in a specific field, prepared to take the necessary licensing exams for certification, or possibly transfer to a university. 9
