2 What are Talent Networks? New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (LWD) launched industry specific Talent Networks in June, The Talent Networks represent six key industries that help drive the New Jersey economy and have the ability to grow and create additional job opportunities
3 Health Care Talent Network Industry presence in all NJ counties Workforce expansion anticipated 10-25% over the next 10 years Over the next 7 years 10 of the 20 fastest growing occupations are in Health Care
4 Health Care Talent Network The health care cluster contributed approximately $34.8 billion to the Gross Domestic Product in 2012, roughly 7 percent of all output From 1990 through 2013, the health care sector has added 186,300 new jobs, while all other private sector employment has had a net increase of only 74,800 jobs Health care employers paid more than $23.3 billion in total wages in 2013, or about 12.2 percent of all wages paid.
5 Health Care Talent Network Health care is the only industry that has added jobs in the state every year from 1990 through 2013 while increasing its share of jobholding from 7.5 percent in 1990 to 11.6 percent in The outlook for health care employment is bright. From 2012 through 2022, it is projected that nearly 89,100 jobs will be added, an annual increase of 1.8 percent

13 Registered Nurses (RNs) RNs are professionals licensed by the state in which they work. RNs function as active members of the health care team. RNs provide and manage care for individuals who are ill and their families. RNs works with patients of all ages promoting physical, mental and social well-being. Employment of registered nurses is projected to grow 19 percent from 2012 to 2022, faster than the average for all occupations. The three major educational paths to registered nursing are: Associate degree in nursing (ADN), about 2-3 years length Bachelor of science degree in nursing (BSN), 4 years Diploma (offered in hospitals), 2 to 3 years

(RNs) Registered nurses typically do the following: Record patients' medical histories and symptoms Give patients medicines and treatments Set up plans for patients care or contribute to existing plans Observe patients and record the observations Consult with doctors and other healthcare professionals Operate and monitor medical equipment Help perform diagnostic tests and analyze results Teach patients and their families how to manage their illnesses or injuries Explain what to do at home after treatment

17 Home Health Aides The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts rapid employment growth of about 48.5 percent between 2012 and 2022, which translates into more than 424,200 new home health aide positions created over the next decade. Home health aides help people who are: Disabled Chronically ill Cognitively impaired Older adults who may need assistance There are no formal education requirements but most aides have a HS diploma. HHAs working in certified home health or hospice agencies must get formal training & pass a standardized test

Community and vocational rehabilitation services Nursing and residential care facilities State government, excluding education and hospitals Local government, excluding education and hospitals Education: High School Diploma with minimum of training Bachelor's or Master s degree (Optional)
24 What does Social & Human Service Assistant do? Work under the direction of social workers, psychologists, or others who have more education or experience Help determine what type of help their clients need Work with clients and other professionals, such as social workers, to develop a treatment plan Help clients get help with daily activities, such as eating and bathing Coordinate services provided to clients by their or other organizations Research services available to their clients in their communities Determine clients eligibility for services such as food stamps and Medicaid Help clients complete paperwork to apply for assistance programs Monitor clients to ensure services are provided appropriately
25 Pharmacist Employment of pharmacists is projected to grow 14 percent from 2012 to 2022, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Where do they work? Pharmacies and drug stores Hospitals Grocery and General Merchandise Stores Education: Pharmacy programs grant Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degrees, which require at least six years of post-secondary study and passing a state board of pharmacy licensure exam.
26 What does a Pharmacist do? Fill prescriptions, verifying instructions from physicians on the proper amounts of medication to give to patients Check whether the prescription will interact negatively with other drugs that a patient is taking or any medical conditions the patient has Instruct patients on how and when to take a prescribed medicine and inform them about potential side effects they may experience from taking the medicine Advise patients about general health topics, such as diet, exercise, and managing stress, and on other issues, such as what equipment or supplies would be best to treat a health problem Give flu shots and, in most states, other vaccinations Complete insurance forms and work with insurance companies to ensure that patients get the medicines they need Oversee the work of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists in training (interns) Keep records and do other administrative tasks Teach other healthcare practitioners about proper medication therapies for patients

Take the information needed to fill a prescription from customers or health professionals Measure amounts of medication for prescriptions Package and label prescriptions Organize inventory and alert pharmacists to any shortages of medications or supplies Accept payment for prescriptions and process insurance claims Enter customer or patient information, including any prescriptions taken, into a computer system Answer phone calls from customers Arrange for customers to speak with pharmacists if customers have questions about medications or health matters
29 Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Employment of emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics is projected to grow 23 percent from 2012 to 2022 Where do they work? Ambulance Services Government Hospitals Education: Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics must complete a postsecondary educational program. All states require EMTs and paramedics to be licensed.

Respond to 911 calls for emergency medical assistance, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or bandaging a wound Assess a patient s condition and determine a course of treatment Follow guidelines learned in training or received from physicians who oversee their work Use backboards and restraints to keep patients still and safe in an ambulance during transport Help transfer patients to the emergency department of a healthcare facility and report their observations and treatment to the staff Create a patient care report, documenting the medical care given to the patient Replace used supplies and check or clean equipment after use
