JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Criminal Justice Recovery Worker Service/Department: Haringey Location: Haringey Grade: 25 31 Reports To: Offending & Reintegration Team Manager Job Purpose The post holder will be expected to operate in a flexible manner contributing to and providing cover for all other aspects of service provision across the Criminal Justice System. This role will also carry a case load of clients and pro-actively work with service users to maintain treatment and recovery goals. All criminal justice workers are required to work flexibly across the broad range of DIP provision and on occasion within the broader treatment system, dependent on service delivery need. Post holders are required to successfully apply for Met clearance at counter terrorism level along with HMP Prison clearance in order to have full access to all criminal justice settings. Main Duties and Responsibilities 1 Client Work 1.1 Provide referral processes for service users by providing the appropriate information and assessment details. 1.2 To engage adult drug and alcohol users and ensure their preparation for onward referral according to need. Conduct assessments with service users ensuring that the process includes the giving as well as gathering of information. 1.3 To work on a one to one basis with service users to ensure that treatment and recovery planning and outcome monitoring is conducted on an individual basis according to the specific needs of the service user. The post holder should employ a range of theories and methods to ensure that the needs of the individual service user are met. 1.4 To work within a cultural competent framework to ensure that the needs of various cultures are met. 1.5 To work with the other members of the team to ensure a holistic JD & PS Criminal Justice Recovery Worker, Haringey 12.01.15 Page 1 of 7
programme of care is maintained addressing the physical, psychological and social needs of the service users are addressed. 1.7 To provide advice, information, referral and assessment interventions for those involved in the Criminal Justice Service at a variety of sites including, Police Custody Suites, Courts and Prison establishments. This may include evening and weekend working. 1.9 To provide assertive outreach to service users who have, or who are at risk of dropping out of treatment and are also part of IOM and DIP. 1.10 To ensure that all safeguarding concerns are recorded, monitored and reported in line with Blenheim and Haringey s policy and procedure. 2. Networking and Liaison 2.1 Maintain professional links with related organisations to ensure elements of continuity of care, up to date profiling of the Service, referral links, and general information sharing. 2.2 To work in partnership with all partners ensuring the quality delivery of the service and to maintain appropriate information sharing systems. 2.3 To attend relevant forum meetings. 2.4 To write reports for service users with guidance from Manager for purposes of referral, courts, probation, housing, Children and Family Services. 3. Recording, Monitoring and Evaluating 3.1 To maintain client records in such a way that conforms to Blenheim policies and procedures and complies with medical and legal requirements. 3.2 To assist the Senior Practitioner and Team Manager in the provision of information that enables data collection, input and retrieval. 3.3 To conduct regular service reviews and outcome monitoring to ensure that the programme meets the identified need of the service users and contractual requirements. 3.4 All client information should be kept in a neat and accessible manner ensuring that service users can appraise the information kept on them, and that the information is able to be used by all members of the team. 3.5 To keep all client information in a secure area to ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times. 3.6 To ensure that all interventions are underpinned on sound theoretical, evidence based methods and ensuring that outcomes are successful and JD & PS Criminal Justice Recovery Worker, Haringey 12.01.15 Page 2 of 7

General duties and responsibilities 4.1 To maintain the building environment in line with health and safety requirements as well as ensuring that it is a positive physical environment that enhances the therapeutic atmosphere for other staff and service users. 4.2 To ensure that the premises are safe and secure. 4.3 To assist in the process of review. 4.4 To attend supervision, appraisal and other meetings as directed by the Line Manager. 4.5 To represent the Specialist Drug Treatment Service and Blenheim in a professional manner at all times. 4.6 To treat all colleagues, partners and service users with respect and dignity. 4.7 To contribute to the strategic development of the Specialist Drug Treatment Service and Blenheim by identifying skill sharing opportunities, training provision, information exchange etc. 4.8 To work positively within a team context, recognizing the dynamics and responsibilities. 4.9 To undertake any task in line with role and responsibilities as directed by Line Manager. Substantial experience of working with people with substance misuse problems. Qualifications 2. Level 3 Health & Social Care Diploma with substance misuse units; OR appropriate professional qualification plus Level 3 working with Substance Misuse Award/ willingness, ability and commitment to achieve qualification. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 3. A good understanding of the complex needs and problems that confront those with a history of problematic substance misuse, e.g. physical, psychological, mental health, legal etc. 4. A good understanding of harm minimisation and how it can be used as an intervention to reduce the risk of harm to individuals and the wider community. 5. Able to effectively engage with clients about their drug use through good verbal and non-verbal communication whilst maintaining boundaries. 6. Able to assess the complex needs of drug users, identify risks and formulate action plans to identify how these can best be addressed. 7. Knowledge of the types of services available to people who have substance misuse issues and how they are accessed or referred into.
