JEAN-PAUL II, ABIDJAN 01 CÔTE D IVOIRE Title of the assignment: Junior Consultant - Business Communications Brief description of the Assignment: To support communication activities through research, analysis, reporting and proposal writing with respect to the co-ordination of both internal and external business development projects, programs, and events of key significance to the advancement of the overall goals and objectives of OPSD. The Private Sector Operations Department (OPSD) plans, organizes and carries out the activities related to private sector project identification, preparation, appraisal, implementation and portfolio management. The Department provides financial and technical assistance for private sector projects and programs. It

also supports the Bank s diagnostic and enabling environment reform programs to improve the investment climate in Africa. The Junior Consultant role is an exciting opportunity to join OPSD Communication s and Marketing team. It requires an individual with the ability to work as a team member but also on their own initiative. Under the guidance of the Principal Business Development Officer, you will bring with your enthusiasm, energy and a willingness to develop your internal and external communications skills. You should have an understanding of events planning, communication tools and good ICT skills. Objectives of the assignment: The specific objective of the assignment is to maintain marketing and communications functions within OPSD. The overall purpose is to give more visibility to OPSD existing activities and programs as well as fields of intervention, both financial and non-financial including technical assistance, to communicate the development impacts and achievements of the Bank s private sector operations and to reach out to potential clients and partners. The communications junior consultant will assist to enhance OPSD communications and outreach initiatives to reach out to a larger target audience, including customers, journalists, investors, suppliers and more. To advise on communication tasks, and use written and verbal skills to create a wide range of product and corporate communication materials. By communicating effectively with the target audience, to help build a positive reputation for OPSD. Main activities and deliverables This position will suit someone who is highly methodical, detailed and hard working with a creative spark and sound knowledge and understanding of business communications and Public Relations. Key Tasks & Responsibilities will include: - Draft and create e-newsletter and e-flyers - Collate information and write content for OPSD website and social media channels (including Facebook and Twitter) - Simple video editing and uploading video to online platforms (Vimeo/YouTube) - Manage and update the image and video library - Prepare appropriately captioned online photo albums for projects/exhibitions which journalists/bloggers can access and download - Prepare online event information and booking pages - Manage clients lists and mailing lists

- Maintain regular communications with OPSD/Bank Staff and Clients - Twitter analytics, and prepare regular reports for OPSD Management - Assist the preparation of e-publications - Any other responsibilities In short, the Junior communications consultant role will be to maintain marketing and communications functions within OPSD. This will include preparing newsletters and e- flyers, updating the website, engaging our audiences via social media, basic video editing and uploading videos to online platforms, managing and updating the image and video database, maintaining regular internal and external communications and maintaining postal and e-mailing lists. It will also include assisting with preparing epublications and working in a busy environment, managing a potentially unpredictable workload. Expected Deliverables The consultant will be expected to deliver those services in the context of the Terms of Reference in a timely manner. The consultant will be expected to deliver the following items during and at the end of the period of the project: An online virtual network A well-developed user-friendly calendar of events An updated database of contact information of regional and international media outlets as well client database of contacts. Gallery of Photos/Videos of OPSD projects epublication materials Two bi-monthly and one final report detailing the work undertaken. Duration of the assignment: The assignment will be for 6 working months. The duty station will be the AfDB Headquarters in Abidjan. Qualifications The candidate shall meet the following minimum requirements: Advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent), preferably in communications, journalism, public relations or other related field.

Minimum of two years and a maximum of five years of progressively responsible experience in journalism, communications, public or international relations, including minimum two years working experience at the international level. Experience in the area of web platform development/management is desirable; English language skills with a working knowledge of the other (French); Highly developed communication skills, including ability to draft/edit texts and to articulate ideas in a clear, concise style to a variety of audiences, as well as facilitation skills; shows persistence when faced with difficult problems or challenges. Ability to identify strategic issues, opportunities and risks, and communicate broad and compelling organizational direction; Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills, particularly Microsoft Publisher; Demonstrated experience in working with social media tools, such as Facebook and Twitter; Demonstrated experience in writing communication strategies with a monitoring and evaluation framework; Positive work ethic with a willingness to learn. Be under 32 years of age Be a national of one of the member countries of the Bank Selection criteria: i. At least a Master s degree (or its university equivalent) in Business, International relations, Finance or Economics; etc. ii. in strategic consultancy, investment or commercial banking, business development and macroeconomic analysis; iii. Client and results oriented individual, with strong analytical and communication (both verbally and in writing) skills, sense of accuracy and attention to detail; iv. Ability to deal with sensitive issues in a multi-cultural environment and to build effective working relations with colleagues. The selection criteria for junior consultants will be based primarily on the evaluation of their curriculum vitae, as well as their experience in undertaking similar activities with other firms and institutions and their availability. Remuneration: The Consultant will be paid a competitive monthly lump sum for the entire period in accordance with Bank s scale set for Junior Consultants and commensurate with the number of years of relevant experience.
