St. Thomas More Church St. John s University Queens, New York Client: St. John s University Architect: Martin A. DeSapio Architects Square Footage: 13,400 St. Thomas More Church is located on the main campus of St. John s University in Queens, New York. A campus church had been a dream of the St. John s community since its inception over a century ago. The new building includes a 500-seat sanctuary and campus ministry offices. SAE provided mechanical, electrical, and lighting systems designs that integrated seamlessly with the aesthetic qualities of the structure and complemented the interior design features. Special considerations included acoustical analysis and airborne noise treatments.

GlaxoSmithKline Conference Center Parsippany, NJ Client: GlaxoSmithKline Architect: Eclectic Architecture Square Footage: 14,600 The campus of this pharmaceutical research company included a historic carriage barn which was restored, renovated and expanded into a corporate conference center. The original aesthetics of the structure were maintained, however, the interior was totally redone to a stateof-the-art conference center which includes a main conference center with movable partitions, plus several smaller breakout rooms and a large catering kitchen. In order to maintain the historical qualities of the building the HVAC heat pump systems were specially designed to fit within tight spaces and to be unobtrusive. The electrical design included various types of lighting systems to support teleconferencing and to provide flexibility and dimming via preset control stations. The work also included an upgraded electric service, fire alarm, sprinkler and telecommunication systems. Since 1990 we have provided superior engineering services to our clients and that s why... Traditionally, the relationship between engineers and contractors in publically bid jobs is adversarial. SAE is the exception to this rule, as they provide the contractor with timely decision and careful attention to detail. Ray Turner, Jr. JL Turner Company Our company used SAE to obtain an estimate of a large scale. I must say they were professional, timely and straightforward with all information. Not being familiar with the HVAC components being studied, I was able to fully comprehend all aspects of the situation and was able to distinguish between pressing issues and those that could be handled at a later date. David Strunk did an excellent job of translating the technical aspects of the project into terms that my associates and I could better understand in order to make the informed decisions that were needed to contribute to the further success of our company. We are looking forward to working with SAE on future projects. Lisa D. Green The Inn at Pocono Manor 90% SAE will always go the extra mile for us. When dealing with the unique and challenging field of photovoltaic design, SAE always takes the extra time to be sure we have found the most cost effective solutions.. They allow me to develop a project budget, and construct a project with few issues. When we have a complex and challenging project, we would not call anyone else to help us develop it. Matthew Jaust East Coast Alternative Energy SAE has a higher standard of excellence than most in the industry today. Their commitment to detail and prompt response makes SAE the firm we think of for all of our engineering projects. Philip W. Moss P.E. PW Moss and Associates Having worked with SAE since their formation as a company I can confidently say they are a loyal and honest firm with resourceful solutions to difficult problems. They are consistent in their high quality of craftsmanship and attention to customer service. It has been a pleasure to work with them over the years. Strunk-Albert Engineering began working with Simone Collins on our site design and parks projects, and when time came to gut an old warehouse to create our new green office building, we knew we wanted SAE on our design team. From the initial concept, SAE understood the physical challenges of our unique building and recommended savvy solutions for construction techniques and insulation systems that set the basis for our successes in building performance and cost savings from energy conservation measures. SAE staff is highly skilled technically and were a pleasure to collaborate with professionally through the entire process. SAE design documentation sailed through review and bidding, and the SAE staff faithfully represented SC through the inevitable changes that occur during a rehabilitation project. Our Energy Star rating after a year of operation was measured at 46 percent lower than a typical building. David Strunk is a gentleman and a person you want to meet. Pocono Environmental Education Center Dingmans Ferry, PA Client: National Park Service Architect: Bohlin Cywinski Jackson Square Footage: 7,750 The Visitor Activity Center was designed to meet the Client s commitment to environmental stewardship. The Center functions as a gathering space for dining, meetings, lectures and other environmental learning activities. The building was designed to take advantage of beautiful views of the natural world and to enhance winter solar gain. SAE designed the MEP systems to complement the open character of the structure. The heating system consists of a radiant floor system that provides occupant comfort allowing for lower space temperature and is invisible. The building utilizes natural ventilation instead of air conditioning to minimize energy use. The flexible lighting system design promotes zoned control to supplement the available day light from the large fenestration areas. 2009 Silver Commonwealth Award - 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania 2010 Honor Award for Building Design - United States Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Designing the Parks Awards Featured in Sustainable Facilities: Green Design, Construction, and Operations by Keith Moskow Photographer Credit: Nic Lehoux

East Stroudsburg Area Senior High School - North Campus Bushkill, PA Client: East Stroudsburg Area School District Architect: The Architectural Studio Square Footage: 425,000 SAE provided comprehensive MEP services for this new public school campus, which includes a 425,000 sf high school/middle school, elementary school, athletic fields, bus garage, and sewage treatment plant. The high school project s HVAC system consisted of oil-fired hot water boilers, centrifugal chillers with outdoor cooling tower, and a four-pipe distribution system delivering hot and chilled water to air handlers and classroom units. The building included science classrooms, indoor pool, woodworking shop, auditorium, full kitchen and food service areas, dual electrical services, data-system infrastructure, communications systems, and emergency power system with generator.

Oticon Somerset, NJ Client: Oticon Inc., USA MEP Prime Consultant Square Footage: 170,000 Oticon, a manufacturer of state-of-the-art hearing aids, decided to purchase an office building twice as large as the rental building they were in to allow for expansion. SAE was the prime MEP consultant for this multi-phase project, which involved complete renovations throughout an existing 5-story corporate office building. Work included a main data center/computer room with CRAC s, 120 kva UPS system, critical power distribution system, and a clean agent fire suppression system with secondary pre-action sprinklers. Other features included an atrium smoke exhaust system, packaged variable air volume HVAC units, 300 kw emergency/standby generator with two automatic transfer switches and distribution branches.

Northampton Community College Monroe Campus Tannersville, PA Client: Northampton Comm. College Architect: MKSD Architects Square Footage: 200,000 A new college campus was created on a 75-acre site, which included classroom, administrative, and student activities buildings. SAE was responsible for complete MEP design for the three new buildings along with the associated campus infrastructure. The engineered systems include: a geothermal ground exchange system with a central plant heat recovery chiller, primary/secondary variable-speed pumping, VAV air distribution systems, medium-voltage campus distribution, central standby generator and emergency distribution, automatic daylight harvesting controls and dimming, 500 kw on-site photovoltaic solar system, extensive IT/data cabling system infrastructure, and fire suppression systems with on-site fire pump and water storage tank. The project was designed to qualify for LEED Silver certification.
