These are the main pages you envisage people landing on from finding you in search results and will be the most important pages for you to optimise. (This can be updated at a later date from within the software) Step 6. The final step of the setup is to choose your reporting options. We suggest that you tick both options to start with, you can always opt out again from within the software at a later date. 6. Backlinks Do some off-site optimisation and build links to your site Managing your backlink profile is one of the most important aspects of an SEO campaign. You need to be constantly looking for new opportunities to get links back to your important pages, but you also need to be monitoring the links you have so you can identify very quickly if you come under attack of a negative SEO campaign. A negative SEO campaign is where people build hundreds or thousands of links back to your site on very bad low quality websites with the intention of forcing a Google penalty on you. It s a horrible thought, but unfortunately there are people out there doing it. Don t worry too much though, if you regularly monitor your links with our tools, you will be able to catch any such attacks early enough to be able to do something about it and not get penalised. So, back to the subject in hand, link building. - Spy on your competitors From the drop down tools menu, open the Competitor Backlink Spy tool and run it to see who links to your competitors and doesn t yet link to your site. Sort out the best quality links and investigate opportunities to get links in the same places. DO IT MYSELF SEO USER GUIDE!17
- Submit your content to search engines and directories Use the Content Submission tools within the drop down tools menu to add your site to local and global search engines that are popular among your target audience. If you are a UK business targeting a UK audience, only submit to search engines and directories that are UK relevant. We have a large list of sites to cater for people based all over the world so please be careful and submit sensibly. - Monitor social mentions to create more links Open the Web Buzz Monitoring tool from the drop down tools menu and enter the keywords matching your topic in the settings area to find conversations on the web where you can place a link to your site or just mention it to create brand awareness. Performance Analysis Track your optimisation results Doing all this hard work on your SEO campaign is all well and good, but let s have a look at some of the things you can do to monitor your results on a regular basis. - Watch your rankings Use the Rank Tracking tool to monitor your rankings changes and use the Compare with the previous results filter to understand the differences over time. - Track your backlinks Has your number of backlinks grown? Use the Backlink Quality Check and the Backlinks option to look at the number of links you have. DO IT MYSELF SEO USER GUIDE!19
- Monitor Social Media You can monitor your social media popularity and check your competitors social trends with the Social Engagement tool. By having your business Facebook page connected to the Do It Myself SEO software in the Facebook Insights tool, you will be able to see how quickly your Facebook network grows, learn from your competitors and discover what content drives engagement in your market and know if your readers hide your posts from their timelines. All this information is essential to prioritise your efforts, create better content and drive real social growth. 8. What s Next? Don t stop! An SEO campaign is an ongoing task and you should dedicate a short amount of time to it on a regular basis. The general rule is that if your Average Ranking Position Trend rises over time (The relevant widget for this can be found in the Rank Tracking Tool Summary where you can click on + Add Widgets to tailor the summary to your needs) and the traffic to your site grows as a result (use the Web Analytics tool for this), then you are doing things right and should keep going. If the numbers do not change over a period of time, or even fall, then you ll need to go back to steps 4, 5 and 6 to re-check your selected keywords, tidy up any errors found in the audits and review the number and quality of backlinks that you have. Don t feel that you are on your own! Remember, we are here to help and all it costs you is a phone call or an email. We are happy to support you as much as you need to help you succeed in getting the rankings and traffic that you need to make your website perform. One more thing. The SEO cycle may never end, but your hard work will be rewarded with great rankings, lots of traffic and lots of new business, that s for sure! DO IT MYSELF SEO USER GUIDE!20
