2 SEO People turn to search engines for questions. When they arrive at your website they are expecting immediate answers What is SEO and what are the advantages of using it? SEO stands for search engine optimization. SEO is the name given when someone is talking about improving their search engine rankings, usually trying to get their website to the first page on Googles search results. The advantages of having your results in the number one page on Google are: Users click on your results before any competitor It shows the general public that Google thinks you have useful relevant content Increase in traffic Great for social media SEO facts, numbers and statistics More than half of SEO is off page (on someone else s site) Google+ is one of the highest social factors for a good SEO ranking About 50% of users search for local businesses using their mobile Mobile searches are growing more than desktop searches How does SEO work? The more relevant your website content is to the users search results, the likely it will be in the top 4 pages on Google. The more popular and relevant your website is to the users search results, the more likely it will be in the top two pages on Google. The more valuable your content, the more users will log on your website and the better your SEO rankings will be because of that, as well as your revenue opportunities will increase.

3 How can I rank higher on Google? Focus on writing and posting relevant consistent topics over a given period of time(follow a theme) Ensure that your website is mobile friendly and more important, responsive Make your content shareable via link and social media Create links on your website to other industry website links which Google finds Google quality, this will constitute a great deal to your SEO ranking higher Give testimonials on other websites and place your website link on your testimonial. Google recognizes it when people click on your site, especially coming from another site Make sure your website is fast performing with no lagging, another issue taken into account by Google. Constantly update and expand on the content on your website to make it fresh, be it blogs, ebooks or other new content Link your social media buttons to your website in visible places Keep content fresh and your own. The more you copy someone else s content, the less attractive your site is to Google Focus on backlinks: As the saying goes If content is King, then backlinks are Queen

4 SEO tactics Create unique content on your site and blog about its uniqueness, linking your website URL to your blog Link your website when you comment on other industry blogs Make sure you list your business in at least ten online directories Create content for people, not search engines Include stats and charts with your research findings Setup a comment page on your blogs or website Ask customers to leave comments on Google+ Don t use a lot of irrelevant characters ( ^!+) etc. in your website or blog) Be active on social media sites Participate in and encourage guest blogging Focus on providing more value to your subscriber s Optimize for Yahoo and Bing. They may well take a large piece of Google s pie in Yahoo is the default engine for Firefox. Do your research on these huge Global search engines, you might be impressed to find that a good portion of your traffic might come from there. Remember that links to your site, from another site are very important signals to Google. 6 Important to note: Keywords play a large part in SEO. A great resource to gain an advantage over your competitors is to use the Google Adwords tool. The longer your keyword, the less your competition will be, although the less popular it is too. Do some research into this to understand this part of Google Bear in mind that the three pillars of SEO are: Content, Links and Social Media One of the best resources I can recommend to you is software called SEO Spyglass this tool lets you see who s linking to your website and much more. Once you know which other websites are linking to yours, build relationships with the website owner s to partner with them. SEO content can include any of the following: Blog Posts A blog is one of the easiest and most popular ways to create a regular stream of SEO content. Blog posts are more engaging because the readers can interact with you by sharing their comments. Articles Think news article, interview, or feature piece. This is the main kind of content you ll find on most newspaper- or magazine-style websites. Also very effective Videos There are fewer videos on the web than pages of text; it can be easier to rank on the first page for a competitive keyword by creating a video instead of an article. Depending on what type of site or business you run, videos can be a great way to attract and reach an audience. Consider creating video tutorials of how to use your products. Or illustrate a process that is related to your business for example, a Web Developer could show you step by step on how you can create your first website

7 Infographics When people talk about Infographics, think of data (often in the form of graphs or charts) on a single subject Slideshows Also great for SEO if the quality of what your presenting is top notch Directories A directory is a useful way to gather information and present it in an organised manner, someone could create links to sites or resources around a given topic. Someone can create a car blog with hundreds of local car dealers in a specific town There are so many ebooks, podcasts, books, websites and resources available today which make it a nightmare to decide if what you are reading is actually meant for you, more importantly, do you understand it?
