EP Logger Client Application EP Logger Client Application Overview The EP Logger client application is a stand-alone software tool used to document and log parliamentary sessions. This tool helps users to input descriptive information about events during sessions for documentation and search purposes. Examples of such information include the subject of the session, the speaker s name, the start and end time of the interval of the speech event, the event type, and an explanatory note. This information is saved to the EP Logger central database and may be exported to a file that can be used to import the data into Nexio Insight for further processing. 2016 Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. 5/25/2016 Page 4

EP Logger Client Application EP Logger User Interface The EP Logger client application contains 3 main tabs, including: Live Log Log Viewer Import / Export Live Log This tab contains session information and also the logging panel where logging can be performed. Perform Live Logging Perform Live Logging Introduction The Live Log tab allows users to perform live logging whereby they can create subjects, as well as primary, secondary and vote event logs within a subject. These logs contain user-defined information such as location, meeting type, speaker s name, speech interval, etc. Logs of the current subject are listed in the Primary Events, Secondary Events and Vote Events panels, and they may be sorted by start time, speaker s name, title, note and event type. Logs created by the user are stored in the EP Logger central database (or in case of standalone deployment, in a local database) and may be exported to a file. Start a New Logging Session In order to start a new logging session, users first need to select the date and specify the location and type of the session in the Session section of the Live Log tab. Under the Session section, a calendar is available to choose a date, and location and meeting type elements are listed in two dedicated list boxes. To start a new logging session, do the following: 1. Start the EP Logger client application and click the Live Log tab. 2. On the Live Log tab, make sure that the Session section is expanded. Otherwise, click anywhere in the panel to open it. 3. A calendar and two list boxes appear. 4. Select a date from the calendar. 5. Select a location and a meeting type from the two list boxes. 6. Navigate to the Subject area of the Live Log tab and enter a name for the new subject. 7. Click Start to start logging. 2016 Imagine Communications Corp. To initiate a new subject, do the following: 1. Make sure that a logging session has been specified in the Session section of the Live Log tab (see "Perform Live Logging" on page 8). 2. To add a new subject, enter a subject name in the field located in the Subject area. 3. Click Start to start logging. 4. The Primary Events, Secondary Events and Vote Events panels become active. 5. In the Primary Events panel, click into the Speaker field and start typing the first few characters of a speaker s name. 6. An auto completion list opens for the matching characters. 7. Select a name from the list using the arrow keys or by clicking the desired item with the mouse. 8. (Optional) Click into the Title field and enter a title for the new event. The title may also be entered using the text box at the bottom of the Primary Events panel. 9. Press ENTER to accept the data entered and to insert a new line. 10. The end time of the event log is completed automatically. 11. Perform steps 5-9 with as many primary event logs as desired. 12. During logging, create secondary events in the Secondary Events and Vote Events panel in a similar way to creating primary events. 13. When finished, click the End button to end the subject. 14. Information is arranged in a hierarchical structure located on the left side where information is sorted by date, location, meeting type, and meeting. Clicking a node in the tree structure displays the corresponding event details in the main panel. Primary events are arranged by time period, and include the speaker s name, start and end time, and the title of the speech. Primary events are displayed with orange bullet points. Secondary events are also arranged by time period, and contain the speaker s name and a time value. Secondary events are displayed with dark green bullet points. Vote events are also arranged by time period, and contain the report number and report title, as well as start and end time. Vote events are displayed with light green bullet points. The Log Viewer tab also contains a filter box in the top section of the screen. By entering a keyword, users can locate information quickly and easily. View Log Details on the Log Viewer Tab Log details can be displayed by clicking the low level elements in the hierarchical structure located on the Log Viewer tab of the EP Logger client application. To display the low level elements, users need to expand the nodes of the tree structure. To display log details, do the following: 1. In the EP Logger application, click the Log Viewer tab. 2. Import and Export Import and Export Introduction The EP Logger client application allows users to export event logs to a file, and also to import reference data from Nexio Insight in order to create event logs. These tasks can be performed on the Import / Export tab of the EP Logger application, which contains two sub-tabs: one for export tasks and one for import tasks. Import a Package Users can import an external package into the EP Logger client application using the Import tab located on the Import / Export tab. To import a package, do the following: 1. Click the Import tab under the Import / Export tab. 2. On the Import tab, click Select to select a package to import. 3. Locate the package in the dialog that appears and click Open. 4. The path of the package appears in the file select field and the package details display below. If the package has already been imported, a message informs the user. 5. Check the package details and click the Import Package button. 6. The package is imported into the EP Logger client application automatically. Note: If items in the package are missing from the EP Database, they will be inserted. If items are present but modified, they will be updated. If the EP Database contains items that are not present in the package, they will be removed from the database. 2016 Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. 5/25/2016 Page 12

Carton Service Carton Service Introduction The EP Logger client application is able to connect to a service called Carton Service, which forwards messages from the European Parliament s Carton System to the EP Logger application that contain subject start time and end time, event details, etc. To connect to the Carton Service, a president name needs to be specified in the President field which is located at the bottom of the Live Log tab of the EP Logger application and users need to click the Connect button. Once a connection has been established between the EP Logger client application and the Carton System, the Carton Service forwards messages to the EP Logger application that can be processed by the user while performing live logging. Connect to the Carton Service A connection to the Carton Service can be established using the bottom section of the Live Log tab. To connect to the service, do the following: 1. In the EP Logger client application, click the Live Log tab. 2. On the Live Log tab, navigate to the bottom of the screen and click the Carton tab. 3. Under the Carton tab, enter a president name in the President field or start typing the first few characters of the president name and select an item from the auto completion list that appears. 4. The connection is established automatically and the Carton Service starts forwarding messages. 2016 Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. 5/25/2016 Page 14

Carton Service Receive Carton Messages Carton messages are received automatically in the EP Logger client application once a connection has been established to the Carton Service. Messages contain subject start time and end time information, and primary event details including speaker s name, start time, end time, and a note. Information is inserted into the relevant fields automatically, which means that no user action is necessary to process the messages. However, users may modify each piece of information manually if needed. For instance, users may want to choose a different end time for a primary event, or they may want to modify the subject name. If the user changes the title of a subject, it is his responsibility to close the subject at the appropriate time, since the Carton message will no longer match for the subject. Sometimes it may happen that the user connects to the Carton Service later than the start time specified in a Carton message. Since events (both primary and secondary) can be created only when a subject is started and in case the start of the subject Carton message is missed, we recommend connecting to the Carton Service and starting the subject as soon as possible; otherwise, messages will be discarded and information will be lost. To process messages forwarded by the Carton Service, do the following: 1. Open the EP Logger client application and click the Live Log tab. 2. Make sure that there is an active connection to the Carton Service. 3. Messages forwarded by the Carton Service start arriving automatically. 4. Click the Start button to start a new subject. 5. Check the details generated in the Subject and Primary Events panels and modify them if necessary. 6. Perform live logging as required. 7. When finished, click the End button to end the subject and start a new subject as necessary. 2016 Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. 5/25/2016 Page 15
