Denise is an experienced teacher of over 35 years and was previously the Head of School at Etonhouse International School, Nanjing for four years until January 2016. Denise will be temporarily taking on Year 1C this term before moving across to teach Reception in August. Clare is currently Head of the Primary School at Val Verde International School in Portugal. Maria Pokato Post Graduate Certificate in Primary Education (University of Cumbria), BA Hons in History and Educational Studies (Manchester Metropolitan University). Maria is currently teaching Year 1 in a Primary school in the UK and has six years Year 1 teaching experience. Maria enjoys running gardening and eco clubs at school.

Jennie is currently teaching at Soong Qing Ling Kindergarten in Shanghai, where she has been for the last four years. Jennie started her career teaching in a UK primary school. Callam Atkinson Graduate Diploma in Primary Education (Durham University), BA Hons in Sociology, (University of Sunderland). Callam is currently teaching in Primary at the English Modern School in Qatar. Callam has always been keenly involved in after school activities, especially in language development and sports. Year 2 Shona Bailey Post Graduate Certificate in Education (University of Cape Town), BA Hons in English and History (University of Natal, South Africa), TEFL. Shona is a British national who spent her late teens in South Africa before returning to England to start her teaching career. She currently teaches at Present Charter International School in Bangkok and prior to this taught at Dulwich College in Seoul. John Benson BA Hons in Primary Education (University of Dundee). John currently teaches English at Kid Castle in Shanghai and prior to this taught lower Primary in Scotland. John is also a passionate Scottish Traditional Drum Teacher! Year 3 Alice Wilcox - BA Hons in Primary Education (Roehampton University). Alice currently teaches KS2 at Stillness Junior School in London. She is an exceptionally keen footballer and plays competitively for two London teams, she is also a Duke of Edinburgh Award enthusiast! David currently teaches KS2 at a city school in Nottingham. He has previously worked in Korea for two years as an English language teacher. David is also a very keen footballer, playing for a number of local clubs in the UK and in Korea.

Patrick currently teaches at Yew Chung International School, Chongqing where he has been teaching Year 4 and Year 6. Prior to this he taught Year 6 in the UK for two years and Year 5 at an international school in Madrid. Patrick is an avid sportsman, with particular interests in Football, Badminton and Swimming. Patrick is also an emerging artist in his spare time, and enjoys sketching and painting! Head of Secondary English Shaun Couchman Post Graduate Certificate in Secondary English, Media and Drama Education (University of Cumbria), BA Hons in English Literature and Theatre Studies (University of York). Shaun currently teaches at Al Kohr International School in Qatar and prior to this was English progress leader at the outstanding and high achieving St Bedes School in the UK. With a passion for drama, Shaun has always been a very keen enthusiast of public speaking, school musicals, drama clubs and stage performance to develop student s literacy skills. Stephen is currently the School Principal at Val Verde International School in Portugal. He is also a qualified school inspector and holds a coaching certificate in tennis from the lawn tennis association.

Ashely is currently working as an educational consultant for schools in Spain, France and the UK and prior to this helped manage the 21 st Century Private Academy in Abu Dhabi. Ashley also has experience as an American university school s counsellor and will be working with our Sixth Form students in this capacity. Her main role at Britannica will be to develop and co-ordinate our EAL programme and manage the new Saturday Morning English Language School. Head of Secondary Business Studies, Economics and ICT Nathan King Post Graduate Certificate in Business Education and Economics (University of Hertfordshire), BA Hons in Marketing (University of Hertfordshire). Nathan gained significant experience in Business Management before becoming qualified as a teacher. Nathan currently teaches Business and Computing at Cheshunt School in East London. Director of Sports Rebecca Hatton BA Hons in Physical Education, Sport and Dance with qualified teacher status (Liverpool John Moores University). Beccie has a range of swimming, first aid, rounders, trampolining and other sports related qualifications. Currently she is Head of the Sports Department at the large St Cuthberts High School in Rochdale, UK where she manages a large team of PE staff and a sports programme delivering to hundreds of students. She is a keen skier, swimmer and netballer herself and has danced competitively for a many years. Beccie will oversee the delivery of all sport at Britannica, including the sporting element of our new English and Sports Saturday morning programme.
Head of Secondary Mathematics David Rosenberg Post Graduate Certificate in Mathematics Education (Manchester Metropolitan University), Mathematics Enhancement Programme (Manchester Metropolitan University), BSc Hons in Sports Science (Liverpool John Moores University). John has taught as a secondary and middle school Mathematics teacher in the UK, Vietnam and currently in Costa Rica. He will be joining us in Shanghai with his partner who will be working at SSIS. He is also, like many of our new teachers, a passionate sportsman and sports coach. Secondary Mathematics Teacher Paul Clifton Post Graduate Certificate in Secondary Mathematics Education (University of Hull), Maths Conversion Course (University of Hull), BA Hons in History (Northumbria University). Paul has been teaching KS3, GCSE and A Level Mathematics at Goole Academy in the UK for the last two years. He is another keen footballer and skier. Head of Secondary Science David Doyle Currently studying for an MSc in Biology (University of Edinburgh), BSc Hons in Education in Biological Sciences with Physics (University of Limerick). David is currently Head of High School Science at SUIS in Shanghai and prior to this taught Secondary Science in Dublin, Ireland. He has a special interest in environmental issues and encouraging pupils to take an active role in global environmental awareness. David also is the current SUIS High School Tennis coach. Teacher of Geography Holly Brown Post Graduate Diploma in Geography Education (University of Birmingham), BA Hons Geography (The University of Manchester). Holly currently teaches Geography at the Streetly Academy in Birmingham where she has additionally trained herself as a Mathematics teacher. She is a keen participant and organiser of after school activities and has been involved in Duke of Edinburgh, Netball Coaching and organising various field trips. She is a keen Netball and Hockey player herself.
Teacher of Primary Music Aria Tonini BM in Music Education (University of South Maine). Aria has been most recently working as a Music Teacher at Daegu International School in South Korea. American educated she is married to Ian Richardson, a UK national, who also joins us at Britannica. Aria has a passion for music, teaching and children and has already led choirs, bands, musical ensembles and orchestras in her brief educational career. An outstanding musician herself, she is very much looking forward to helping make Britannica s music education among the best in the city! Sports Teacher and Coach Ian Richardson MSc in Sports and Exercise Biomechanics (Manchester Metropolitan University), BSc Hons Exercise and Sport Science (Manchester Metropolitan University). Ian has an established history as a sports coach where he has coached and led student sports teams in both the UK and the USA. His sporting strengths lie with Swimming and Football. He is married to Aria, our new Music Teacher.
