4 Security Protecting your personal data is our top priority online. Sanford Institution for Savings has installed strong and multi-layered measures to keep your funds fully protected and your account and personal information private when using Online Banking. Encryption Technology Exchange of private information over the Internet, while maintaining privacy and security, is possible through the use of encryption technology. This encryption technology, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), will scramble information as it passes across the Internet. To provide the highest level of confidentiality and security available to date, Sanford Institution for Savings recommends the use of browsers that support 128-bit encryption technology. Supported Browsers Online Banking can be accessed from any computer with Internet access and a secure web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher which supports 128-bit encryption. If your computer operates with Microsoft Windows 95 or higher; or Apple Macintosh system 7.0 or higher, you probably have all the software that is required. Firewall Protection For added security, your information is passed through a firewall. The firewall is a computer designed specifically to keep unauthorized users from accessing data. Security 5 Limited Access Passwords Access to your account is protected from unauthorized users by a personal password. The initial Online Banking Password is the last four digits of your Social Security/Tax ID number. You will be required to change your password the first time you log in to Online Banking. Do not share your password with anyone. Sanford Institution for Savings will NEVER solicit you by phone or e-mail and ask for your personal login details, so do not provide this information to anyone who asks for it. You can change your Customer Number at any time in Online Banking by selecting the User Options menu. If, at any time, you forget your Customer Number, contact Customer Service to reset it. Password Protection Select your password wisely. Do not select a word or number that s easy to guess, such as your own name, your child s name or a birth date. The best passwords are those that mix both letters and numbers. Your password may be 6-8 characters in length. Online Banking is case-sensitive, so be sure to remember whether any letters you use are upper- or lowercase. For added security against anyone attempting to randomly guess your password, the Online Banking login will disable if an incorrect password is entered three times in succession. Call Customer Service, (888) 226-5747, or locally (207) 324-2285, to reactivate your account. Automatic Sign Off Click the Sign Off button and close your browser when you are finished with your Online Banking session. For further security and peace of mind, in the event you forget or are unable to log off, Sanford Institution for Savings will automatically end your Online Banking session if there is no activity on your workstation for twenty minutes. Important Information about Spyware and other Third Party Software Due to the increasing global rates of online fraud and identity theft, we are sending you this message to inform you of the potential dangers of certain free Internet software and services. Many companies on the Internet offer free services such as browser search toolbars and Internet acceleration. The use of these services often requires installation of software and changing of your browser settings. This may allow these companies to collect information you send through the Internet, which could include your online banking password or a credit card number! Because of the potential danger these services pose to online transactions, we have made changes to our online banking system. The system attempts to detect certain well-known services that may collect this information, and will prevent you from logging in if they are detected. However, being able to log into online banking is not a guarantee that your computer is safe. Only you can keep your information safe from these companies. If you install or use these free services, you should carefully read the terms and conditions before using the service. You should also install and maintain current virus protection, and consider using a so-called 'spyware removal' program to detect and remove harmful services. Please remember, Sanford Institution for Savings is not responsible for the security of your home computer, and we cannot be held liable for damage resulting from using these services. We are concerned with the safety of your personal information, and we ask for your help in keeping your account secure. info@banksis.com (207) 324-2285 (888) 226-5747
