FTP Mode Infrastructure Network Setup Overview FTP Mode allows you to wirelessly transfer images you capture on your EOS DSLR to a WiFi-enabled computer that you have set up as a remote FTP server. The EOS Wireless File Transmitter will function as the FTP client. This setup guide will describe how to create an infrastructure FTP network on a PC running the Professional versions of Microsoft Windows XP. You must first install Internet Information Services (IIS) and FTP Service, which is available on the Professional installation CD. For detailed information on how to install IIS, please visit http://www.microsoft. com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/ proddocs/en-us/iiiisin2.mspx?mfr=true. If you prefer, or if are using a version of Windows that does not support IIS, you can use one of the many third-party FTP server software applications available. Follow the software provider s instructions for how to configure the server, login, password, and Windows firewall. This setup requires you to assign a login name, password and WEP encryption. Please check to be sure you are operating in a secure environment before setup. Do not change the network settings on any computer without the permission of the network administrator. Be sure to write down your original network settings so that you can restore them later if you choose. 2
Assign IP Address to FTP Server 1Click Start, then navigate to Network Connections (All Programs/Accessories/Communications/Network Connections). 3
2Right-click Wireless Network Connection, then select Properties from the resulting dropdown menu. (Right-click Local Area Connection if you are using an Etherlink cable connection.) 3Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), then click the Properties button. 4
4Click the Use the following IP address radio button. Enter an IP address and subnet mask for the ftp server. (The address at right is simply an example.) Click OK to exit. Click OK to close the Properties dialog. Enter IP address here for reference. 192. 168. 1. FTP Server Setup 1Click Start, then Control Panel, then click on Administrative Tools. You should see an icon for Internet Information Services. (If not, refer to the Overview above.) 5
2Under Internet Information Services, click the + symbol next to name of your local computer, then click the + symbol next to FTP Sites. Click the + next to Default FTP Site to select it. 3The Internet Information Services window should look as you see here, with the Play arrow grayed out. This indicates that FTP is up and running. The default path to the root folder will be c:\inetpub\ftproot\. 6
4Right-click on Default FTP Site. Select Properties from the dropdown menu that appears. 5Fill in the Identification fields as shown. The description should be the name you want to assign to the FTP server. The last three digits of the FTP address you enter can be any number other than the one you assign to your WFT. The port number should be 21. Click the Apply button to apply your settings. 7
6Click the Security Accounts tab. Check Allow Only Anonymous Connections and Allow IIS to control password. Leave the username and password fields blank. 7Click the Home Directory tab. Click the a directory located on this computer radio button. To change the default path to the root directory, click the Browse... button and navigate to the folder of your choice. Select the Read, Write, and Log visits check boxes. Click Apply to register your settings, click OK, then close the window. 8
Wireless Network Configuration 1Open the Wireless Network Connection Properties window (Start/Control Panel/ Network Connections). On the General tab, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), then click the Properties button. The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) window will open. 2Select Use the following IP address. Enter the IP address shown or one like it. The last number must be different from the one you assigned to the FTP server. The subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0. Click the OK button. You will return to the Wireless Network Connection Properties window. Enter IP address here for reference. 192. 168. 1. 9
3Click the Wireless Networks tab on the Wireless Network Connection Properties window, select the name of the router that is distributing your wireless network connection, then click the Properties button. A Properties window will open. 4On the Association tab, confirm or select the following settings: Network Name (SSID): The name of your wireless router Network Authentication: Open Data encryption: WEP Network Key: Enter the 5- or 10-digit password you use to access the wireless network distributed by your router. Configure FTP Server 1 You now need to configure the FTP server on your computer for a wireless infrastructure setup. Click Start, then navigate to All Programs/Accessories/ Communications/Network Connections. 2 On the Network Connections screen select Wireless Network Connection, then click Change settings of this connection. 11
3 Click the Wireless Networks tab. This tab may not appear if Wireless Network Connection is disabled. If you have installed a third party wireless connection application, follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer. 4 Select Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings, then click the Add button. 12
5 Enter a network name and security options identical to the ones you selected for Step 2 of the Wireless Network Configuration. Uncheck This is a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network. Click OK. 6 Click OK to complete the PC-related phase of the network setup. 13
Configure Windows Firewall 1 The final step of FTP setup is to configure Windows Firewall to allow the Wireless File Transmitter to access the FTP server. Begin by opening the Control Panel window and clicking Windows Firewall. 2 The Windows Firewall window will open. Click the Exceptions tab. Under the list of Programs and Services, select FTP, then click the Add Port button. 14
3 The Add Port window will open. Type WFT FTP into the Name field and 21 into the Port number field. Click the OK button. WFT Setup 1Turn on the camera and WFT unit. Press the MENU button on the camera. Navigate to the Tool menu that contains WFT Settings. Select [WFT Settings]. 2Select [Connection wizard]. 15
3Select [FTP trans.]. Select [OK]. 4Select [Wireless]. Select [OK]. 5Select [Connect with wizard]. Select [OK]. 6Select the name or SSID assigned to your wireless network router. (The SSID shown here is only an example.) Select [OK]. 16
7Select [Auto setting]. Select [OK]. 8Select [Address setting]. Select [OK]. 9Enter the exact IP address you wrote down in Step 4 of the FTP Server setup. Press the Menu button on your camera to select [OK]. 10The address on the FTP Server screen should be identical to the address you wrote down in Step 4 of the FTP Server setup, Leave the port set to 00021. Select [OK]. 17
11Select Passive mode [Disable]. Select [OK]. 12On Proxy server select [Disable]. Select [OK]. 13On Login method select [Login password]. Select [OK]. 18
14On Login name, enter the name of your computer. (To find the name of your computer, click Start button/control Panel, System and Maintenance, then System. You will find the computer name under the Computer name tab. 15On your camera s Password screen, enter the password you use to log onto your PC. You must enter a login password for this setup to work. Press the Menu button on your camera to select OK. 19
16For Target folder select [Root folder], then select [OK]. 17The camera and WFT will now connect to your computer/ftp server. Select [OK]. 18Assign your settings to a Set for later retrieval. You can assign any number from 1-4. Optional Automatic File Transfer Settings 1Go to the WFT settings menu. Select [Set up]. 20
2On the Set up menu enable [Automatic transfer]. Press the Menu button on your camera to confirm settings. 3Image files from your camera will automatically be transferred to a house folder identified on your computer as folder A. Note that any files you erase from the camera will not be erased from the house folder. How to Disconnect When you have finished using your FTP server, return to the WFT settings menu to select [Disconnect.] How to Reconnect If necessary, return to the WFT settings menu to reset the mode to [FTP trans.] If your network s IP address is the same the WFT will reconnect automatically.
