Congratulations I Care Recipients I Care Award is presented to citizens who make an outstanding contribution to schools in their community. Emily Theunick, Big Jackson I Care honoree receives the award from Dr. Lori Tubbergen Clark, Big Jackson and NC RESA Superintendent; David Hewitt, NC RESA BOE President; for volunteering to teach art classes each week for Big Jackson students. Bob and Bonnie Erber, Fremont I Care honorees receive the award from Ken Haggart, Fremont Superintendent; Dr. Lori Tubbergen Clark, NC RESA Superintendent; David Hewitt, NC RESA BOE President; recognized as great supporters and for establishing a scholarship fund awarded annually to a Fremont High School graduate. Marcello Santana, Grant I Care honoree receives the award from David Robinson, Grant and NC RESA BOE, Jonathan Whan, Grant Superintendent; Dr. Lori Tubbergen Clark, NC RESA Superintendent; David Hewitt, NC RESA BOE President; for weekly volunteering his time in the Dual Immersion classrooms at Grant Public Schools. Deanna Joppich, Hesperia I Care honoree receives the award from Dean Havelka, Hesperia Superintendent; Dr. Lori Tubbergen Clark, NC RESA Superintendent; David Hewitt, NC RESA BOE President; for volunteerism in various projects including the Literacy Bus, a mobile library providing books to Hesperia children. John Goodin, Jr., Newaygo I Care honoree, was unable to attend. Accepting the award on his behalf: Ed Haynor, NC RESA BOE, Dr. Peggy Mathis, Newaygo Superintendent; Dr. Lori Tubbergen Clark, NC RESA Superintendent; David Hewitt, NC RESA BOE President; for his extensive work with Newaygo youth football and as a leader of that program s parent group. Mindy Mench, White Cloud I Care honoree receives the award from Barry Seabrook, White Cloud Superintendent; Dr. Lori Tubbergen Clark, NC RESA Superintendent; David Hewitt, NC RESA BOE President; for her extended efforts writing grants, creating flyers, organizing book fairs and various other events. NC RESA and all 6 local school districts proudly honor Senator Goeff Hansen as Newaygo County s I Care honoree. Dr. Lori Tubbergen Clark, NC RESA Superintendent; David Hewitt, NC RESA BOE President presented the county award to Senator Hansen for his work in sponsoring and passing the Promise Zone legislation for Newaygo County students to have an opportunity for a tuition-free Associate s Degree.

2016 Newaygo County Outstanding Educator Winners Carla A. Roberts, CEO and President of Fremont Area Community Foundation recognized these educators who have demonstrated outstanding qualities that impacted student achievement, instructional creativity, and community involvement. They were each awarded a $2,500 scholarship from Fremont Area Community Foundation to enrich their classrooms. Amy Zerlaut, Grant Primary Center, Outstanding Educator for Elementary Level; Melinda Zerlaut, Grant Middle School, Outstanding Educator for Middle School Level; and Kris Waalkens, Hesperia High School, Outstanding Educator for High School Level. Newaygo County outstanding educator nominees were recognized with certificates of appreciation for their exemplary teaching. Congratulations NCCTC Outstanding Students Each year, instructors at the Newaygo County Career-Tech Center are asked to select a student in their program to receive the Outstanding Student Award. Beyond the qualities of high academic achievement, positive attitude, and skill mastery, these students exemplify the traits of: responsibility, dependability, quality work, cooperation and initiative, problem-solving skills, interest and enthusiasm, and the ability to work together as team members.
