2 Keynote speaker Dr Michael robb, Ph.D. Program Manager, Early Learning Environment at the Fred Rogers Center Dr Robb has been working in the field of media and children for the last decade. He is currently overseeing, planning and developing one of the strategic initiatives of the Fred Roger Center, the Early Learning Environment. He has published research on the impact of electronic media in young children language development, early literacy outcomes and problem-solving abilities in a variety of academic journals including Child Development and Developmental Review. Dr. Robb has also supervised community education outreach for KCET/PBS helping parents and teachers to make the most of quality children s programming. He was the recipient of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation, Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship. Dr. Robb holds a BA in Child Development form Tufts University and M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of California. The Early Childhood Education Department at Manhattanville College The Early Childhood Education Department at Manhattanville College has accreditation through NAEYC and NCATE and is nationally recognized as a program of excellence. The program offers both undergraduate and graduate New York State certification in Early Childhood Education, Birth through Grade 2. 4 interactive Presentations 1. Kim Deveaux Using the Interactive White Board for Literacy Instruction This workshop will explore the use of the interactive white board for teaching young children literacy skills. Kim Deveaux, a former preschool and elementary school teacher, with experience in integrating technology across the curriculum. She is currently a TeqSMART Certified Trainer and a SMART Certified Education Consultant. 2. Corrine Doron Tech for Tots: Introducing Technology to Early Learners to Enhance Visual Literacy Participants will explore ways to integrate technology into their curriculum through examples of museum programs and workshops conducted for early learners. A hands-on demonstration will focus on technology as a tool where participants will learn how to utilize computer based programs to teach their students visual literacy and social skills. Corrine Doron is the senior manager of programs at Sony Wonder Technology Lab, an interactive technology museum. She has worked in museum education in New York City for over 10 years and for 5 years she was the Natural Science Program Developer at the Brooklyn Children s Museum. 3. Kris Golden Building a Blueprint for Early Math Learning Through the Use of Technology This workshop will focus upon the connection of early childhood research and learning standards to the use of technology in math education for young children. Kris Golden has been in the field of technology in education for over 20 years working with Head Start, the New York City Board of Education and numerous school districts on Long Island, bringing the latest in technological advances into the classroom, currently, as a representative of Hatch. 4. Barbara Johnson How to Enhance Handwriting Skills with Digital Teaching Tools This session will demonstrate how new classroom technologies can complement handwriting instruction and how the right technology can be used to enhance handwriting skill development. Barbara Johnson is the Sales Director of Handwriting Without Tears. She has a background in education and has presented educational materials at national, state and regional conferences.

Helen Krasnow Enhancing Science Instruction for Young Children using the SMART Board This workshop will focus on interactive activities and resources teachers of young children can use to provide science instruction in the early childhood classroom. Helen Krasnow is on the faculty of the School of Education at Manhattanville College. She has over two decades of experience as an educational consultant, teacher, staff developer, and curriculum designer. Helen has given workshops on effective uses of SMART Board technology to K-12 schools and colleges and is the Director of the Summer Institute for the Gifted at Manhattanville College. 6. Dr. Landis Innovative Uses of Technology in the Classroom He is a former professor in the College of Education from Millersville University where he was the graduate coordinator of the Leadership Program and the Coordinator of the CyberSafe Institute and is currently a Development Executive with Apple Inc. 7. Dr. Diane Lang How Teachers can Use Technology to Enhance Beginning Reading Skills Ways that technology can be used to support the development of basic reading skills in the early childhood classroom will be explored and demonstrated. Dr. Diane Lang is an Associate Professor in the Early Childhood and the Childhood Department Department at Manhattanville College. Her work in the area of digital story telling with young children began at Los Angeles Children s museum s television studio. 8. Dr. Paul Lynch The Role of the Director/Principal and Technology Specialist in Developing a Technology Program in Early Childhood Settings This presentation will focus upon how administrators can facilitate and support the development of a quality and appropriate technology program in early childhood environments. Dr. Paul Lynch is the Director of Communication, Technology and Library Media for the Lynbrook Public School District, Lynbrook New York and a member of the faculty of Fordham University, Graduate School of Education. 9. Using the ipad as a Teacher Tool. Participants in this workshop will discover innovative ways to use the IPAD as a helpful teaching and learning tool for teachers. Panel participants include: Amy Lynch, Teacher, April Fatato, Teacher and Director, Goddard School and Bob McHugh, Frogpad Inc.

Emily starr and Michael Brothers Critical Thinking and Problem Solving with Young Children in the Digital Age In this workshop, participants will learn how to use interactive, online resources aligned to the Common Core and New York State Standards to create lessons that encourage higher order thinking skills at every level of Bloom s taxonomy. Participants will walk away with access to a library of 4,800 interactive resources. Emily Starr a former classroom teacher, founded StarrMatica Learning Systems in She has been the recipient of Iowa s Spotlight on Technology in Education Award, Prometheus Award for Innovation in Education and the Neal Smith Entrepreneur of the Year Award. She shares her interactive content integration expertise with educators at conferences and workshops, through on-line articles, during webinars and blogs. Michael Brothers has years of experience working with administrators and educators on innovative technology solutions and ways to use interactive technologies with digital content. 11. Carol stern Using CD and DVD Technology to Enhance Physical, Literacy, Social and Emotional Skills through Music and Movement This interactive session will demonstrate how to develop important developmental skills with music and movement. With the use of a variety of CDs and DVDs, participants will experience how best to use the media to enrich the learning experiences of young children. Carol Stern is the President of Educational Activities, Inc., a leading publisher of early childhood CDs, DVDs, software and read-along books. Carol has collaborated with innovators in the field of music and movement including Hap Palmer, Bob McGrath and Ella Jenkins, among others. She has recently produced a DVD entitled Highly Successful Strategies to Guide Young Children s Behavior with Dr. Patricia Vardin released in March Dr. Patricia Vardin, Henry Kiebrowsky, robert Woods The role of Robots and Electronic Toys in the Early Childhood Classroom In this interactive workshop, participants will explore the possibilities of using robots and electronic toys as vehicles for teaching and learning in the early childhood classroom. Young children will participate with adults during this session. Dr. Patricia Vardin is Chair of the Early Childhood Education Department and an Associate Professor at Manhattanville College. Dr. Vardin also serves as an educational consultant for schools and corporations and is the author of a model early childhood program, The Comprehensive Early Childhood Education Model, implemented in five schools in New York. She writes a national blog for Educational Activities, Inc. Henry Kiebrowsky was a technology administrator for the New Jersey Board of Education and is currently a professional development specialist for LEGO Education. His expertise includes the LEGO Education program, We-Do Robotics. Robert Woods was a technology educator for the New York City Board of Education and is currently a consultant for LEGO Education.
