Ed., B. Ed. Special Education (MR/ID), M. Ed and M.A. (Education) programmes offered by MIER College of Education (Autonomous) for the Academic Session 2016-18: B. Ed. Admission to the B.Ed. Course shall be open to candidates with at least 50 % marks (45 % for SC/ST Candidates) either in the Bachelor s Degree or in the Master s Degree in Sciences / Social Sciences / Humanities, Engineering or Technology with Specialization in Science and Mathematics with 55% marks (50% for reserved categories) or any other qualification equivalent thereto from a recognized University. The candidates who have appeared in the final year of Bachelor s Degree Examination can also apply. M. Ed. A candidate seeking admission to M.Ed. Programme should have obtained atleast 50 % marks in the aggregate (45 % for candidates belonging to SC/ST Category) or an equivalent grade in the following programmes: i. B.Ed. ii. 4-year Integrated B.A. B.Ed., B.Sc. B.Ed. iii. B.El.Ed. iv. D.El.Ed. with an undergraduate degree (with 50% marks in each) B. Ed. Spl. Education (MR/ID) Admission to the B.Ed. Special Education (MR/ID) Course shall be open to candidates with at least 50 % marks (45 % for SC/ST Candidates) either in the Bachelor s Degree or in the Master s Degree in Sciences / Social Sciences / Humanities, Engineering or Technology with Specialization in Science and Mathematics with 55% marks (50% for reserved categories) or any other qualification equivalent thereto from a recognized University. (This course is approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) and is aimed at training students to teach mentally retarded children in both normal & special schools) M.A. (Education) A candidate seeking admission to M.A. (Education) Programme must have passed/appeared in the final year of Bachelor s Degree Examination (10+2+3 pattern) with Education as an elective/additional subject or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereof from a recognized University/Institution with atleast 40% aggregate marks (36% for SC/ST candidates). Note : The candidates are advised to deposit their marks certificates of the final year of Bachelor s Degree Examination either in the College or through Registered/Speed Post or scanned copy through e-mail after the declaration of the result. DURATION OF COURSES: The duration of all the courses shall be 2 years (4 semesters) Candidates desirous of seeking admission should register themselves online on the college website www.miercollege.in and fill up the Online Application Form with an application fee of Rs. 800/- as per the procedure provided on the portal. A copy of the E-Brochure is also provided on the website for the convenience of the applicants. In case any applicant faces difficulty in submitting the online application form or for any other clarification, he/she may approach the College Admission Cell in person from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm for the purpose of submitting the application form. ADMISSION PROCEDURE M.A. (Education) and M. Ed. 1. Admission shall be made on the basis of an Entrance Test and academic merit in the qualifying examination from any recognized University i.e. (i) B.Ed., (ii) 4-year Integrated B.A., B.Ed., B.Sc., B.Ed., (iii) B.El.Ed., and (iv) D.El.Ed. with an undergraduate degree (with 50% marks in each) for M.Ed. programme and Bachelor s Degree Examination with Education as an elective/additional subject for M.A. (Education) programme. The final merit shall be determined by giving a weightage of 30% to the marks obtained in the Entrance Test and 70% to the academic merit of the qualifying examination. 2. There shall be an objective type question paper comprising 80 questions of one mark each. The components of question paper shall be: a. Knowledge of Education and Teacher Education 20 questions b. General Knowledge 20 questions c. General English 20 questions d. Reasoning and Numerical Ability 20 questions - The duration of the Entrance Test shall be ninety minutes. B. Ed. and B. Ed. Special Education (MR/ID) a) 75% of the sanctioned seats available in the College shall be filled from amongst the eligible candidates who:- i) are Graduates or Post-Graduates of the University of Jammu; OR ii) belong to areas falling within the territorial jurisdiction of the University of Jammu but have passed the qualifying examination from a University other than the University of Jammu. OR iii) Such employees of the Central/State Govt./Public Sector Undertakings or any other Organization recognized by the University of Jammu as are posted within the territorial jurisdiction of the University of Jammu or wards (sons, daughters or spouses) of such employees. Provided further that wards of Kashmiri migrants in other parts of the Country are also eligible for admission to the B.Ed./B.Ed Special Education (MR/ID) Course under Local Category of the admission within the 75% of the sanctioned seats in order of merit, provided such a candidate produces a documentary evidence of belonging to a family registered as Kashmiri Migrant. b) The remaining 25% seats shall be filled from amongst the eligible candidates who neither belong to the territorial jurisdiction of the University of Jammu nor have passed the qualifying examination from the University of Jammu. 2
PROCEDURE AND MODE OF SELECTION Admission of all eligible candidates to the Courses shall be made by the College Admission Committee. M.A. (Education) and M. Ed. Admission shall be made on the basis of an Entrance Test and Academic Merit in the qualifying examination. Merit list of the eligible candidates shall be made on the basis of comparative merit in the respective lists i.e. open category and reserved categories. B. Ed and B. Ed. Special Education (MR/ID) Merit shall be determined on the basis of Academic merit of the qualifying examination. i) Three lists of candidates to fill up the seats drawn strictly in order of merit giving 5 days time for completing necessary formalities and depositing of fee etc. shall be notified. However, if the seats still remain vacant, the admission shall be made on first-cum-first-serve basis out of the remaining list of candidates to ensure timely commencement of class work. - Admission of 67% of the eligible candidates to the courses shall be made on the basis of open merit and 33% seats shall be available for the candidates belonging to the reserved category/categories as per the distribution given as under:- Category (i) Scheduled Caste 8% Category* (ii) a) Sportsmen 4% b) Persons who have excelled in Cultural & Literary Activities 2% Category *(iii) a) Persons who have participated with distinction in NCC Activities 2% b) Persons who have participated with distinction in National Service Scheme / Bharat Scouts & Guides Activity 2% Category (iv) Defence Service Personnel including Ex-Servicemen and their children who are permanent residents of the State and have had a satisfactory 2% service record Category (v) Candidates belonging to the area Adjoining the Actual Line of Control 2% Category (vi) Candidates belonging to Scheduled Tribes (Gujjar, Bakarwals, Gaddies, Baltis) 5% Category (vii) Candidates belonging to ST (Resident of the Districts of Leh&Kargil) 2% Category (viii) Candidates belonging to Backward Areas other than that of districts Leh&Kargil 2% Category (ix) Candidates belonging to Weak andunder-privileged Classes as notified in SRO by the J&K State Government from time to 2% time Category **(x) Candidates with disabilities (Orthopedically Handicapped and Visually 3% (supernumerary) Impaired) Category ***(xi) Single girl child One seat Supernumerary 3
* In case only one seat is available under category (ii) or (iii) the same shall be filled on the basis of comparative merit of all the candidates under category (ii) (a) and (b) or category (iii) (a) and (b) put together, as the case may be. ** Candidates suffering a degree of disability of 45 % and above and visually impaired candidates are eligible for admission under this category. An Orthopedically Handicapped or Visually Impaired Certificate shall be considered only if it is issued by the Head of the Department of Orthopedics or that of Ophthalmology of a Government Medical College/ District Hospital. *** Copy of Ration Card along with an affidavit duly sworn in before the First Class Magistrate as a proof of being a single girl child. DISPLAY OF LISTS OF SELECTED CANDIDATES a) The list of candidates drawn strictly in order of merit for admission to the Courses shall be displayed on the College Website: www.miercollege.in b) The selected candidates shall also be intimated through their e-mail address as given in their Admission Forms. c) Such list shall also be displayed on the College Notice-Board. LEFT OVER SEATS In case any of the seats remains vacant under a reserved category for want of eligible candidates, the same shall be offered to the candidates of non-reserved category (open merit). The candidate shall upload a scanned copy each of the following documents at the time of filling online application form: (A) For B.Ed. and B.Ed. Special Education (MR/ID) Courses i) Matriculation or equivalent examination certificate ii) Marks Certificates of the qualifying examination iii) Degree/Provisional Certificate issued by the Institution/University last attended iv) Marks Certificate of each part of the qualifying examination v) Certificate of a good conduct from the Principal of the College Head of the institution any Gazetted Officer vi) CategoryCertificate issued by the Competent Authority as per the latest SRO issued by the J&K State Government vii) Certificate of being Permanent Resident of the State of Jammu and Kashmir issued by the Competent Authority by those candidates who: a) passed the qualifying examination from University other than the University of Jammu but belong to the areas falling within the territorial jurisdiction of the University of Jammu and claim consideration for admission to the course b) Claim consideration for admission under any of the reserved categories 4
viii) Migration certificate if the candidate is not registered with MIER College of Education(Autonomous). However, the candidate may produce the migration certificate within a period of 30 days from the date of his/her admission. (B) For M.A. (Education) and M.Ed. Programme i) Marks Certificates of the qualifying examination ii) Provisional Certificate issued by the institution last attended iii) Reserve Category Certificate (if applicable) IMPORTANT NOTE The certificates of candidates belonging to categories of SC/ST/ Other Backward Classes (O.B.C.)/ Area Adjoining Actual Line of Control(A.L.C.) /Resident of Backward Area (R.B.A.)/Disabled and Defence Service Personnel including Ex-Servicemen and their children who are permanent residents of the State and have had a satisfactory service record shall not be entertained if these do not conform to the latest SRO/Order issued by the J&K Government for the purpose. In case, a candidate claims admission under reserved category but does not attach the requisite certificate in support of his/her claim with the Application Form and if found otherwise eligible, will be considered under Open Merit Category. NO CERTIFICATE OR ATTESTED COPY THEREOF WILL BE ENTERTAINED AFTER THE LAST DATE NOTIFIED FOR ADMISSION. THE CLAIM OF THE CANDIDATE FOR CONSIDERATION UNDER ANY RESERVED CATEGORY WITH "UNDER PROCESS CERTIFICATE" OF CATEGORY WILL NOT BE ENTERTAINED. ONE COURSE AT A TIME No candidate shall be admitted to a course of study if he/she has sought admission in other degree course/programme simultaneously. AWARD OF DEGREE The degree shall be awarded to the successful candidates by the University of Jammu. However, the Marks and Provisional Certificates shall be issued by the College. HOSTEL FACILITY Hostel facility for female students is available in the College Campus. 5
TUITION FEE The Tuition fee shall be charged as under: 1. B.Ed. Rs. 26,400/- per annum 2. B.Ed. Special Education Rs. 60,000/- per annum 3. M.Ed. Rs. 45,000/- per annum 4. M.A. (Education) Rs. 25,000/- per annum Other charges shall also be payable annually at the time of admission to Semester I and III of the course, the details of which can be had from the Admission Office. Or as modified/revised by the Competent Authority from time to time. REFUND OF FEE i. Candidates applying for withdrawal of admission upto one day prior to close of admission shall be entitled to refund of fee deposited after making deduction of Rs. 1000/- or as prescribed by the competent authority from time to time. ii. No claim for refund of admission fee shall be entertained under any circumstances after the commencement of the class-work except the refundable fee. iii. There shall be no refund claim in Management Seat except refundable fee. IMPORTANT NOTE i) Candidates holding Bachelor Degree of One sitting pattern or having obtained Degree from Study Centres/franchises or other Universities (except IGNOU) or have passed in the Bi-Annual/Supplementary Examination in the same academic year in which admission is being sought are not eligible for admission to the Courses. ii) In view of rampant reports of fake certificates and fake Universities, College reserves the right of screening the certificates of applicants seeking admission who have obtained their qualifying degrees from Universities other than the University of Jammu and evaluating their recognition.
