Adding Outlook to a Blackberry, Downloading, Installing and Configuring Blackberry Desktop Manager The following instructions work for the District provided Blackberrys from Sprint, but I think it should be close to the same for any service provider. We do not support non-district provided Blackberrys. If any problems occur, the person will need to contact their service provider. Depending on their carrier, there could be additional charges to connect to our mail server that would be the users responsibility. The step by step instructions are for the latest version of software v5.0.1.37 (March 2010) To connect your Bkackberry to Outlook, you must first to set up an email account for it on the Blackberry. That is done through the SETUP folder on your Blackberry. To get to the setup folder, click on the Blackberry Menu button (the one with all the dots). Scroll to find the SETUP folder, select it and click the trackball to open the folder. When the folder opens, you will see an icon that looks like an envelope with a little gear on it. Scroll to and click on the envelope. When the page loads, scroll to Add an Email Account, scroll to, highlight and click the link. 1. A new window should open that says Add my existing email account to my device. 2. In the box under email address enter firstname.lastname@lz95.org 3. In the password box, enter your outlook (email) password. You might want to click on the show text button to be sure you enter the password correctly. 4. Click Next 5. The next screen will ask for the email server and user id. Type in webmail.lz95.org for the server and for the user name, type in your network user id (first initial last name) 6. Click Next 7. If you are successful, you will see a green message that says you are successful and that an icon has been added to your Blackberry desktop. It only takes a few minutes to sync up and you will start getting email. By default, when you delete from your Blackberry you will delete from your email account as well. Be careful when you delete from your phone. To sync your calendar and address book, you need the install the Blackberry Desktop Client on your computer. Let s do that now.
Open Internet Explorer, copy and paste in this link http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/desktop_pc.jsp Click Download Now and you should see the screen below. Be sure No is selected and click Download
After you click Download, this window will open. Click Save Save to your Desktop using the file name provided (so you can find it after downloading it). Click Save
The install window should open. You will see this progress window while the program gets ready to install. Click OK for English
After you click OK, this window will open When it completes calculating space requirements, this window will open.
Click I accept and then click Next When this window opens, be sure Anyone who uses this computer is selected and click Next
Be sure Typical is selected and click Next Be sure Blackberry Media Sync is checked and click Next
Be sure Integrate with a personal email account (not work email) is selected and click Next Only Create a Shortcut. should be selected. Then click Install
The Installation window will open. When the installation is complete you should see this window. Click Finish You must restart your computer for the installation to complete.
After the computer restarts, you need to configure the Desktop Manager software to sync with your Blackberry. First time BB setup using BB desktop Now, lets setup the Blackberry Desktop Manager to synch your phone. After you set up the Desktop Manager and before you sync your phone for the first time, it is always a good idea to backup your phone. Instructions for backing up your phone are part of these instructions. With your Blackberry connected to your computer, start BlackBerry Desktop Manager and you should see this screen: Click on the Synchronize button. The next window should open.
In the left column, scroll down to Synchronization and click. And this window should open. Next, click on the Synchronization tab in the right pane.
The screen will gray out temporarily while the BB and Desktop Manager connect. The next window will open. Be sure Calendar is Highlighted and checked and Click Next. Highlight Microsoft Outlook and click next. The window below will open. Choose the Two Way Sync Button and Click Next.
Adjust calendar date range and click Next.
If successful, you should see this screen. Click finish. To add the address book, start at Step 4 and repeat the process. When complete, return to the main menu and click on Synchronize
Click and check the Synchronize Organizer Data box. If you want your Blackberry to automatically synchronize when you connect it to your computer, be sure the Synchronize Automatically check box is selected. Click Synchronize to sync your Blackberry.
Backing up your Blackberry Before you sync your Blackberry for the first time, and especially if you have contact information already in the phone, it is a good idea to backup before syncing. Follow these steps to backup your Blackberry. With your Blackberry attached to your computer, start the Desktop Manager software and click on the Backup/Restore option. After you click this window will open:
Save the backup file to your DESKTOP so you can find it if you need it. Keep the file name that Blackberry assigns. Click Save. While the backup is in progress you should see the screen below. When the backup is complete, you should see this screen.
Click OK After you click OK, you should see this window. Click on Main menu to get back to the Main screen of the Desktop Manager. Now you can synchronize your Blackberry.
First, click on the Synchronize option. Then click on the Synchronize button. Close Blackberry Desktop Manager when completed.
