For the convenience of the candidates, provisions for online downloading & online submission of Application Forms have also been made. 2. Eligibility Criteria 2.1. Qualifying Examination Candidates appearing for the Counselling for admission to B Tech Programme should have either completed or appeared in any one of the following qualifying examinations: The final examination of the 10+2 system of Higher Secondary Examination conducted by i) any State Board; or ii) Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE, New Delhi); or iii) The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE, New Delhi); or iv) Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/University; or v) High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or equivalent; or vi) As prescribed by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi for the time being. 2.2 Candidates who have studied in Regular, Full time and Formal Academic or Vocational Education stream in a recognized higher secondary school / junior college alone are eligible to apply. Candidates who have completed the +2 level certification by correspondence or distance education or private study will not be considered. 2.3 Eligibility Criteria in the Qualifying Examination i. A pass in +2 (or its equivalent) subject to clause 2.2 above with a minimum aggregate of (marks secured in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry ) 135/300 or 270/600 in case of students of general category and 120/300 or 240/600 in case of all 2
ii. iii. iv. other reserved categories ( BC,MBC, OBC, SC,ST,DNC, DNT etc). For this purpose the aggregate average percentage shall not be rounded off. In case the marks statement is not produced by the candidate at the time of admission, the decision of the Management regarding his/her eligibility and admission to the programme shall be final. For purposes of consideration for award of the Veltech Mahatma Gandhi National Merit Scholarships, the state from which the candidate has studied and appeared for the qualifying examination (12 th standard examination of the State or Central Board) will be taken as the state to which the candidate belongs to, for ranking, even though the nativity of the candidate may be another state or union territory. IN ALL CASES THE UNIVERSITY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO CANCEL ANY ADMISSION AT ANY TIME WHEN IT IS FOUND THAT THE ADMISSION WAS GRANTED TO A PERSON NOT ELIGIBLE. Therefore the candidates must be satisfied that they do qualify for admission as per AICTE and UGC regulations and take the responsibility of proving so, if need be. 2.4 Subject Combinations Required Subject combinations required in the qualifying examination for admission to B.Tech. shall be a pass in the 10 + 2 or its equivalent with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory papers and Chemistry or Biology as a third core paper for admission to any branch of B Tech Degree programme or as may be prescribed by AICTE for the time being. 3. Date of Birth 3.1 Candidates who have not completed 24 years of age as on 31 st August 2013 are eligible. 3.2 Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate alone will be taken as authentic. 3.3 Age relaxation up to six months may be granted by the management in specific cases. 4. Scheme of Admission 4.1. The University will consider all applicants who satisfy the eligibility criteria. 4.2. Application for admission to BTech Degree programme shall be made in the prescribed application form. Exemption 4.3. Those students who secure the first rank in the +2 examinations conducted by the State Boards will be admitted directly into the course of their choice subject to eligibility, with full scholarships to the value of 100% of the tuition and examination fees and 100% of hostel (boarding and lodging) costs for the entire duration of the course subject to the condition that such students maintain an average of 60% in each semester and pass all papers of every semester in the first attempt to claim the scholarship by way of refund of fees paid for the previous semester. 5. Application Procedure 5.1. Direct by post or in person: - Application Form with Information Brochure in a self addressed envelope along with Prospectus Document with complete details about the University and programmes offered, Industry linkages, Memoranda of Understanding and Foreign collaborations etc can be obtained (a)by post or in person from the Admissions Officer, VTU, at the University Office by presenting a Demand Draft for `600/-only drawn in favour of Vel Tech Dr.RR & Dr.SR Technical University payable at Chennai. or (b) from Accredited Book Sellers in every state (For details see website) at a cost not exceeding `600/- or (c) from any of the Taluk Post Offices or select Branches of Axis Bank or Vijaya Bank or Allahabad Bank (For details see website) at a cost not exceeding `600/- 5.2. 5.3. Online application: - The candidates may also apply online for which detailed instructions have been provided at every stage of filling the application to help smooth navigation. Counselling, Seat Allocation, Document Verification and Admissions 6.1. The counselling for allocation of branches to the candidates will be held at the University Campus, Chennai only. 6.2. The counselling will be held between 15 th -23 rd June 2013 at the University Campus, Chennai. 6.3. Applicants who have already passed the +2 examinations in previous years can fill col. 22 and apply. 6.4. Applicants who are appearing for +2 examinations in the current year can also apply without waiting for the result of +2 Examinations. 6.5. In all cases, any candidate can apply pending result or receipt of the mark statement of +2. 6.6. In these cases, as soon as their marks are available, they can enter the same on line. For this purpose they can go to www.veltechuniv.edu.in and in the window enter their APPLICATION No. which will open their application for filling the marks. Or simply email scanned copy of the marks to admission@vel-tech.org with NAME and APPLICATION No. or post a photocopy of the mark sheet to the university address. For this purpose, the applicants should keep a photocopy of his/her application. 6.7. In order to avoid difficulties in railway ticket booking to and from Chennai, candidates may make confirmed bookings on any of the above three days and appear for counselling and take their turn for allotment of desired branch. All those who have applied but could not send the mark list of +2 examinations can however appear for Counselling on the 23 rd June 2013. 6.8. The candidates should produce the following documents in original along with one set of photocopies while reporting for counselling. Candidates will not be allowed to participate in the counselling process without the documents listed below. i. Class X Board Certificate as a proof for date of birth. ii. Class XII (Qualifying Examination )Mark Sheet ( or net downloaded copy if original is not available) iii. Community Certificate (For all categories except General) iv. It is only after the verification of documents, candidates will be allowed to participate in the counselling process. Authentic records pertaining to identification, age, marks sheet of qualifying examination, (if available) community, nativity (if applicable) and other eligibility criteria will be checked. 6.10. A candidate should decide for certain whether he/she should join the programme based on the branch allotted to him/her at the time of counselling before the payment of the fee. Seats shall be confirmed to those who actually remit the full tuition fees on first come first allotted basis irrespective of the provisional allotment. 6.11. Allotment of branch once made is final and cannot be changed under any circumstances. 6.12. The balance fee in the form of a DD drawn in favour of Vel Tech Dr.RR & Dr.SR Technical University, payable at Chennai along with a covering letter should reach the Admission Officer within fifteen days of the provisional admission or before the date specified in the provisional admission card, whichever is later. The candidate should write his/her name, rank and the branch allotted at the time of counselling on the reverse of the DD. In case the seats are filled by candidates paying full fees prior to a provisionally allotted candidate pays the balance fees, he/she may be offered other branch of choice or the money advance paid will be refunded in full in 15 days. 6.13. Where a candidate fails to remit the balance fee in stipulated time or report for the programme on commencement shall forfeit the seat and the fees paid by him/her. 6.14. The university has working arrangements with several Banks to facilitate quick / spot educational loans at the time of the counselling itself. Those who wish to seek / avail of the bank educational loan facility should produce at the time of counseling the following documents in original to facilitate quick processing of their applications by the bank/s: i. 7. Scholarships There are more than 300 Scholarships and grants available to the University students ranging from four year 100% Scholarships providing free tuition, boarding & lodging to 50% Concession in tuition fees. Every candidate who has been allotted a seat of his / her choice in the counselling shall pay the balance amount of fees prescribed for such programme within 15 days or the date mentioned in the provisional admission letter whichever is later by DD drawn in favour of Vel Tech Dr.RR & Dr.SR Technical University, Chennai, failing which the entire sum of `24,000 shall stand forfeited. 8.2. In no case shall the application fee be refunded. 8.3. Once admitted, fees paid shall not be refunded on any account. 8.4. All payments and refunds shall be strictly by Demand Drafts. 8.5. NO ONE IN THE UNIVERSITY IS AUTHORISED TO EITHER PAY OR RECEIVE CASH FOR ANY PURPOSE. 9. Rules of Reservation Reservation for SC/ST/OBC and Physically Challenged candidates will be applicable as per the rules of Government of India for the time being. 10. Fees Structure for candidates through Single Window Counselling. Legal Jurisdiction All disputes pertaining to the admission shall fall within the jurisdiction of Chennai only. The Registrar of the University shall be the legal person in whose name the University may sue or may be sued. 5
12. INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING AND SENDING THE APPLICATION FORM 12.1 The candidate seeking admission to the BTech Programme is required:- i. to go through the Information Brochure carefully and acquaint with all the requirements; ii. to satisfy eligibility to join the BTech programme; iii. to write complete mailing address with Postal PIN code in the Application Form in capital letters only; iv. to complete DD details correctly if submitting downloaded application; 12.2 Overwriting, cuttings, erasing, using correction fluid in the application form and incomplete form may lead to rejection of form and should be avoided. Any error arising on this account shall be the responsibility of the candidate. 12.3 The Application Form duly filled in should be sent to THE ADMISSION OFFICER, VTU, in the printed envelope supplied by the University, so as to reach positively by the last date by Registered or Speed Post only. The candidate must secure a stamped and signed acknowledgement when presenting an Application Form in person at the University Office. The candidate must retain photocopy of his/her filled in Application Form for future correspondence, if required; 12.4. If a candidate submits more than one Application Form, the latest will be taken into consideration and others will automatically stand rejected without any refund of any fees. VEL TECH MAHATMA GANDHI NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS - SCHEME A 100% scholarships for top ranking candidates admitted to B.Tech. from each State and each Union Territory VEL TECH Dr.RR & Dr.SR Technical University will offer 100% scholarships of full exemption from tuition fees and free boarding and lodging for four years to the top ranking candidate from each State and from each Union Territory in India among the admitted students, subject to the following terms: Terms of scholarship: 1. The applicants must be eligible for admission to B.Tech. programmes in all respects and fulfill all conditions laid down in the University prospectus. Must have secured a minimum of 75% average on the sum of the marks scored in Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry in +2 examinations in their respective State / Central Higher Secondary Board Examinations. 2. The candidates must have been selected by Single Window Counselling. 3. VELTECH MAHATMA GANDHI NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS Selection Committee will scrutinize all the eligible applications and decide the awardees. 4. All students who have fulfilled all stipulated conditions {having secured a minimum of 75% average on the sum of the marks scored in Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry {(in +2 examinations) in their respective State / Central Higher Secondary Board Examinations} and who have not been selected for any other scholarships announced by the University or any other scholarships by the Government of India or the State Government/s will be listed state-wise in the descending order of their merit according to the aggregate mark out of the sum of marks secured in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in their +2 Examinations by a process of normalization. The top students from each state and from each union territory will be shortlisted. 5. Candidate will be considered against the quota of the state in which the candidate has studied the 10+2 course and written the +2 board examinations (State or Central Board), even though the candidate may actually be a native of another state or union territory. 6. All other things being equal, the most deserving in terms of economic conditions irrespective of religion, caste, creed, colour or language will be selected among whom two or more being equal, female student will receive preference. 7. The decision of VELTECH MAHATMA GANDHI NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS Selection Committee shall be final. 10
8. The shortlisted candidates will be informed in writing and their details will be posted in the University s website and published in leading dailies and put up on all University Notice Boards. 9. The Scholarship amount will be disbursed to the selected candidates in a University function. 10. The scholarship will automatically continue to be disbursed semester after semester so long as the student passes all the papers of the relevant semester in a single sitting failing which the scholarship shall automatically stand terminated. The scholarship amount for III semester will be refunded in IV semester provided the student passes all the papers of the III semester in the first attempt and so on. Applicants VEL TECH Dr.RR & Dr SR Technical University will offer scholarships to top 100 candidates admitted by Single Window Counselling for B.Tech. of 50% concession in tuition fees for the first Academic Year and continued subject to the candidate passing all the semester papers in a single attempt semester after semester as described in Scheme A. Terms of scholarship: 1. The applicants must be eligible for admission to B.Tech. programmes in all respects and fulfill all conditions laid down in the University prospectus. 2. Only those who have secured a minimum of 90% in aggregate in the +2 examinations of the respective Board in the subjects in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry will be eligible to participate in this scheme. 3. The candidates must have been admitted by Single Window Counselling. 4. VELTECH MAHATMA GANDHI NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS Selection Committee will scrutinize all the eligible applications and decide the awardees. 5. Applicants VEL TECH in partnership with other establishments / organizations will offer agreed number of scholarships in selected branch/es of undergraduate engineering programme for those who have secured a minimum of 90%in aggregate in the +2 examinations of the respective Board in the subjects in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry for the first Academic year and continued subject to the candidate passing all the semester papers in a single attempt semester after semester subject to the terms as described in Scheme A. VEL TECH FOUNDERS FOREIGN STUDIES SCHOLARSHIPS Every semester the top ranking student in each branch of B Tech Programme will be credited with the full fees paid for that semester by such student in a Fixed Deposit Account till the sixth semester and such accumulated fund together with interest shall be made available to such student for pursuing study abroad either under the Semester Abroad Scheme of the University or Post Graduate study or research in any foreign university for which admission has been secured by the student within one year of completion of undergraduate course in VelTech University failing which the accumulated fund will revert to the general reserves of the VELTECH FOUNDERS FOREIGN STUDIES 11
SCHOLARSHIPS. However this will not apply in case the top ranking student is already in receipt of Mahatma Gandhi National Merit Scholarship and there will be no award of VELTECH FOUNDERS FOREIGN STUDIES SCHOLARSHIPS for that branch for such semester. NOTES 12
