HEW 7 Position Title Reports to Organisational Unit Position Statement/Purpose Organisational Context and Relationships Location/Campus Web Developer Manager, Online Technical Development Web Services The overall purpose of the Web Developer role is to implement and maintain technical solutions that ensure the University s external-facing web-based systems are available as needed, efficient and easy for people to use. This position supports the University and its entities to communicate, collaborate and exchange knowledge in a secure and accessible online environment. Within the University the position: works closely with all members of Web Services and Marketing works closely with ITS, EA and other technology groups within the University is managed by the Manager, Online Technical Development Outside the University the position liaises with technology partners, professional associations and consulting groups on issues related to online technologies. The position is currently located at the Flinders Lane Campus of the University. The position and incumbent may be relocated to any other existing or future University work locations where it conducts its operations. Position Number 903019 POSITION DESCRIPTION Typical Activities/Indicative Tasks Contribute a high degree of specialist knowledge to the development and implementation of the University s public-facing web-based systems. Propose changes and enhancements to the University website and web content management system in line with organisational and unit goals and strategies. Implement technical solutions to issues related to the University website and web content management system. Provide technical support and advice to website stakeholders and users derived from current best practice in web development and web content management. Scope of the Role Requires specialist knowledge, qualifications and/or experience in web development, web content management, software development project management methodologies, and the software development life cycle. Provision of high quality and timely consultancy and advisory services relating to the design, development and maintenance of Victoria University s web presence. Design and implementation of technical solutions. Development documentation and processes needed to support the ongoing maintenance of the University s web presence. Leadership of cross-functional technical projects ensuring successful delivery on time and to budget. Co-ordination of technological research and analysis, such as benchmarking. Consultation and collaboration with key stakeholders, internal and external. Management of communications related to the project/role. Works at the operational level and contributes to achievement of strategic objectives. Responsible for continuous improvement of policies, procedures, processes and initiatives relating to the University s websites and online systems. Works independently, prioritises work demands to respond to emerging University requirements Level of Supervision Operates under broad direction from the Manager, Online Technical Development and may be required to manage other technical and/or professional staff Judgement, Independence and Problem Solving Requires a depth of expertise developed through extensive relevant experience and application. Responsible for provision of expert advice on issues relating to website development. Responsible for achievement of position objectives, within agreed time frames and within agreed budget. 2

Key Selection Criteria: Essential: 1. Knowledge or training equivalent to: a degree with at least 4 years subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise in technical and/or administrative fields; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. 2. Demonstrated ability and experience working with current best practices and technologies for front end web development such as HTML, CSS, PHP, JQuery (or other scripting tools for creating dynamic web interfaces). 3. Demonstrated ability and experience working with one or more server-side web development toolsets such as the LAMP stack 4. Demonstrated ability and experience implementing, configuring and customising a web content management system such as Drupal. 5. Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously (either independently or as an effective team member) in a diverse and deadline-driven environment. 6. Demonstrated ability to research, prepare and analyse reports and papers related to online technologies. 7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), presentation and report writing skills. 8. Demonstrated capacity to understand and comply with employer policy and practices in all aspects of work and conduct, including OHS and Anti-Discrimination responsibilities and complete/attend relevant training. 9.
