Public Program and Education Coordinator (advertisement) The Biennale of Sydney is seeking a Public Program and Education Coordinator, to work on the Biennale s public and education programs for the 2014 exhibition, including tours, talks, workshops and events. The Biennale of Sydney is a non-profit arts organisation that presents an international festival of contemporary art (and Australia s largest contemporary art exhibition). Held every two years, the Biennale is a three-month exhibition, with an accompanying program of artist talks, performances, forums, guided tours, family days and other special events all FREE to the public. It was the first biennale to be established in the Asia-Pacific region and, alongside the Venice and São Paulo biennales and documenta, is one of the longest running exhibitions of its kind. Since its inception in 1973, the Biennale of Sydney has provided an international platform for innovative and challenging contemporary art, showcasing the work of nearly 1600 artists from over 100 countries. The successful applicant will be part of a team of highly motivated, specialist staff and play a key role in the organisation. A proven track record in coordinating and delivering programs, events and publications, as well as the ability to articulate complex concepts to a variety of audiences is required. This Public Program and Education Coordinator reports directly to the Public Program and Education Manager to deliver programs and publications that aim to engage and inspire audiences, increase the public s interest in and enjoyment of the arts, improve visitor experience and make contemporary art better understood and more deeply appreciated. The Public Program and Education Coordinator will have experience in working with schools and have a sound understanding of the requirements of the current visual and creative arts syllabus and curriculum. The position works closely with the Exhibitions team (including Head and Deputy Head of Exhibition, Exhibition and Venue Manager, Curatorial and Exhibition Coordinator, and the Nick Waterlow Curatorial Fellow), Marketing Manager, Marketing and Sponsorship Coordinator, Web and New Media Coordinator, Publications Coordinator, and the Sponsorship, Benefaction, Finance and Administration teams. The position also works closely with the Biennale of Sydney venue partners to plan, coordinate and deliver programs and activities to defined target audiences. In addition, the position will also assist in coordinating Biennale of Sydney marketing efforts and providing special services and programs for sponsors, benefactors and stakeholders. This is a full-time contract position related to the 2014 event for a period of up to 12 months, commencing in July/August 2013. The position is responsible for coordinating the development and delivery of education programs, public programs and events in the lead-up to and during the exhibition period. The process includes researching the work of artists and public program participants; planning and organising programs and working with program participants to deliver these; planning travel and itineraries as well as liaison with venues in relation to participant appearances. The role includes an expectation of liaison with and hosting of artists, speakers and other VIPs when in Sydney. The position works with the PPE Manager, the Exhibitions team, and the Biennale of Sydney Principal Venue Partners, the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Museum of Contemporary Art and Cockatoo Island (Sydney Harbour Federation Trust), to deliver programs and activities to the general public and to targeted audiences. This includes researching and producing event plans; liaising with suppliers and sourcing equipment; working on event marketing and promotion; assisting with tracking bookings and attendance; hosting and coordinating of groups and the rostering of tour guides, interns and volunteers, as well as the coordination of artists and performers during the exhibition period. The Public Program and Education Coordinator is also involved in liaison with schools and other education providers in NSW and beyond, and with the production of dedicated Biennale education publications. This involves researching content, liaison with education providers, development for print and online publication and the promotion and distribution of these publications. In consultation with the Web and New Media Coordinator the position has responsibility for the development and delivery of digital learning initiatives and coordinates the production of AV material for education and other purposes, both in-venue and online. General administration and maintenance of project documents, rosters, event plans and budgets is a key part of this position. The position will also be responsible for the development of grant applications and sponsorship proposals in consultation with the PPE Manager, the Exhibitions team, the Grants and Applications Manager and the Sponsorship Manager. Excellent writing and presentation skills are required for the preparation of project proposals and other documents and correspondence. Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage a wide range of simultaneous projects and tasks is essential, as are first-rate people skills and the ability to work closely and collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. Employment Terms Contract Term This is a contract position related to the 19 th Biennale of Sydney (2014) for a period of up 12 months commencing 2013. Work Hours The position is required to work five working days a week, generally 9.00 am to 5.30 pm from August through to the end of July 2014 or as agreed. However, these hours may vary due to volume of work, particularly during the build up to the Biennale and during the exhibition period where there is an expectation at varying times to work after hours, holidays and weekends. Time in lieu of overtime will be considered and will be approved at the CEO s discretion. Remuneration (a) Total remuneration package Salary (including 9.25% employer s superannuation contribution) will be discussed with suitable participants. (b) Leave (a) (b) (c) Superannuation As part of the total remuneration package, the Company will contribute to a complying Superannuation Fund of your choice such a percentage of your earnings as indicated in the Superannuation Guarantee Act, currently 9.25%. Annual Holiday Leave Paid Annual Holiday Leave of four (4) weeks per annum pro rata in accordance with the Annual Holidays Act (NSW) will be granted at a mutually convenient time. Long Service Leave Long service leave in accordance with the Long Service Leave Act (1955) and other applicable legislation. Personal/Carer s Leave Paid personal/carer s leave of ten (10) days per year pro rata of continuous service for reasons of personal illness or injury, or to provide care and support to a member of your immediate family or household, who requires care or support because of a personal illness or injury of the member, or where there is an unexpected emergency affecting the member. The Company will not pay out the value of any accrued but untaken personal/carer s leave on the cessation of employment or during the term of employment with the Company. (d) Compassionate Leave Paid compassionate leave of two (2) days per occasion. Probationary Period A standard one-month probationary period applies to all positions and allows for seven (7) days notice of termination by either party. The Company reserves the right to terminate this Agreement during this period if the person is unsuitable for the described duties or the Company environment.
