Each homework should take at least 4 hours. Homework will be marked as part of your final grade Homework 1 From looking (observation) draw something mechanical in pencil in your sketchbook or on paper. Try and use shading (tone). For example a bike or a tin opener. It doesn t have to be complicated. Extension Tasks Complete this extension task if you wish to gain the highest grades. Research the famous Artistic Movement called The Futurists in books or the internet. This is very important. If you really want to get ahead of the crowd make your research into a project. Present this work as a project in your sketchbook or on A2 paper. Homework 2 Collect images from newspapers and magazines of people moving (walking, running, playing sport, on fast machines such as motorbikes or on skateboards/ BMX). Glue the images into your sketchbook or on A2 paper. You should aim to have at least five different images. Giacomo Balla, Vélocité d'un motocycle, 1913 Go out and take photographs of movement. Take photographs of moving cars or bikes, people walking or running. Collect pictures of people moving from glossy magazines photographs or from newspapers. For example sports people, models, politicians, famous people, pop stars etc. As many as you can. Glue these photographs in your sketchbook or display them on paper. Make drawing and paintings of the photographs in your sketchbook or on paper.
Homework 3 Produce a detailed drawing(s) of one of the people moving. This picture should fill one page in your sketchbook. You could research pictures from the internet to copy or use pictures from books, magazines or newspapers. Try to select a topic you like e.g. fashion, sports or dance. If you want to succeed even further you should do several drawings of different mechanical objects in your sketchbook or on paper. Homework 4 Using your research of the Futurist artist complete your own version of your favourite Futurist painting. You could choose to do Key figuresof the movement including the Italians Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, Umberto Boccioni, Carlo Carrà, Gino Severini, Giacomo Balla, Antonio Sant'Elia, Tullio Crali and Luigi Russolo, and the Russians Natalia Goncharova, Velimir Khlebnikov, and Vladimir Mayakovsky.
Homework 5 Cyborg! A Cyborg is a creature half human and half machine (like the Borg from Star Trek ). From looking (observation) in a mirror draw in your sketchbooks or on paper in pencil one side of your face, you choose. Try and use tone (shading). Now from your imagination complete the missing half as if it were a strange machine, a Cyborg. If you want to succeed even further you should do several drawings of different vehicles or people moving in your sketchbook or on paper. How will you show movement?
