A: To use the University s Services you can use a PC / Laptop, Mobile Phone or Tablet and these will be covered in the appropriate sections later in this document or on our website Q: What IT services can I access from home? A: You can access the following: Blackboard VLE The Virtual Learning Environment' (VLE) of the University of the Highlands and Islands is Blackboard Learn a computer program that stores learning materials, assessments, tests and surveys and is the online equivalent of a classroom. Some students will do all of their learning using the VLE, others will have a blend of online learning and face to face teaching. Library Provides access to books for loan and reference, and journals, which support the courses offered, access to resources held across the network through inter-site loan (speak to your librarian), subject to local rules on borrowing, access to other university libraries MyUHI The MyUHI Citrix service provides a virtual UHI desktop on any internet connected computer. Using the MyUHI link, available from the shortcuts menu on our website. You can log into the service and access your files from any computer and you can also access a range of software applications that run across the internet - this means that you don't have to have these applications on your computer but you can still use them from any computer connected to the internet. The MyUHI service requires you to log into the service using your UHI user name and password. Dropbox UHI Drop Box provides a convenient way of sharing files with people internal and external to the University. We have introduced this service to make it easy to share large files (>25Mb) which cannot be handled by UHI Mail. Important Service Information: The purpose of this service is to transfer data and the files are NOT backed up. Users should maintain a copy of the file and carry out backups on that if required.

Office 365 Outlook email Email allows fast, inexpensive and efficient communications to take place. Messages can be sent and received regardless of geographical barriers. It allows messages to be sent and forwarded to multiple recipients without the need for retyping. Electronic documents can be distributed via the email system. Within UHI we use Office365 to provide our email service. Using Office365 provides the following benefits: Webmail allows you to access your e-mail or calendar over the Internet from any web-enabled computer in the world, it also allows you to use Lync messenger IT help Useful Links on how to access our Services and available Software Downloads UHI records Tutors and support staff, use UHI Records to: View module assessment details Check student details Enter marks online Produce management information reports (KPI's, Core reports, Class lists etc.) Calendar Displays current Academic Calendar VC Video conferencing (VC) is a critical part of the advanced communications and technology strategy used throughout UHI for learning, teaching and administration. Referencing RefWorks is a handy Referencing Software and will store your references online and you can output them into your assignments in the UHI Harvard Style. Q: What preparation do I need to do before I can access the IT services from home? A: You will need to be a current staff member and will require your ID Number and password to access our services Q: Can I divert my office telephone to my home telephone or mobile phone? A: On your Phone you can press *60 then the number you want to divert to (Note that for external you will need to put a 9 before the divert to number) To Turn off divert press *65 on your phone Note: All diverts will be required to be authorise by your line manager 1st Q: Can I access my Voicemail from Home A: Dial 01463 273090 and type in your extension number Q: I cannot access any Webpages at home and am connected to my WIFI A: You may have to change the Proxy Settings for home use and make sure you have enabled your WIFI on your Laptop. Windows Users can disable Proxy Server as below: Open Internet Explorer but don t try to connect to anything yet. Use the Tools menu to open the Internet Options control panel. Internet Options is at the bottom of the Tools menu.

Change to the Connections tab and click on the LAN settings button near the bottom of the panel. Make sure of the following: 1. Automatically detect settings is selected 2. Use a proxy server is not selected, Click OK to go back to the Internet Options panel 3. Now Test you can access Internet pages Q: Does the University supply software that I can install on my home machine? A: Most Software that you will require can be accessed from the MyUHI service, Staff can buy a copy of Office / Visio or Project for 8.95 from the following link: http://www.uhi.ac.uk/en/lis/software-downloads/software-downloads#wysiwygtab-content-3 Note: Academic Staff on a STEM related course may be eligible for other MS Software, please contact the helpdesk for further information on this

Q: How do I change my Out of Office? Log into the Webmail, click the setting Cog and then Set Automatic Replies Now click the Send Automatic Replies tickbox and input your Out of Office Message in the 2 textboxes below

Access email via Outlook Web Access (OWA) From your own PC you can follow the below link to login to the Webmail from the UHI website - http://webmail.uhi.ac.uk/ or http://outlook.com/uhi.ac.uk Login using your ID and password (Internet Explorer users use UHIAD\yourID as the username) Note: We recommend you to use Internet Explorer / Firefox / Safari for accessing the email Or within MyUHI you can run the Outlook Client by clicking on the Outlook Button as per the below:

Using Lync Messenger from Webmail When you sign into the Webmail it automatically signs you into the Lync messenger client, this allows you to instantly message other staff members or students signed into the messenger, It also allows you to see whether the person is in a meeting or away from their desk You can see the online status of your profile by clicking your name in the top right of the Webmail screen You can also see the status of people from the People screen by the colours down the left of the person s name To text chat with a person click People at the top of the webmail screen Find the person you want to chat to and check their status is either yellow or green next to their name Click the chat bubble icon to start a chat

Access the MyUHI service What is MyUHI? The MyUHI Citrix service provides a virtual UHI desktop on any internet connected computer. The MyUHI service requires you to log into the service using your UHI user name and password. Who uses MyUHI? All staff and students within UHI have access to use MyUHI. Why should I use MyUHI? MyUHI provides secure remote access to applications and data. This means if you are working offsite you can still access the main UHI services and your Network Drives will be available to you as well. MyUHI can also provide faster access than from a college PC to some services, such as SITS. Using myuhi you can: Access your remote file store (your 'documents library' area and other mapped drives) Swap files between their local PC and your remote file store Use applications such as Word, Excel, SPSS, etc. running on the MyUHI not on your local PC Access your email using the Outlook client application Access library journals as if you are on campus, if available Access other internal resources while off campus e.g. intranets. You should use myuhi when you are at home and even from within the college if the PC you are working on does not have all the relevant software for your work.

How to Access the MyUHI service From our website you can click the myuhi Link or visit http://my.uhi.ac.uk If this is the 1 st time you are accessing the MyUHI website you will be required to install the Citrix Web plugin to access the site, Windows Users can Install directly from the MyUHI website by clicking the I agree tick-box then by clicking the Install button as per below Mac Users can install the Citrix plugin from the Citrix website found here: https://www.citrix.com/downloads/citrix-receiver/mac/receiver-for-mac-1182.html Install the software and then access the MyUHI login page as per the above, (the Citrix software will automatically run when logging into the MyUHI) IPAD / IPhone users can install the Citrix Receiver app from the App store or via the Itunes Store: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/citrix-receiver/id363501921?mt=8 Android Users can install the Citrix Receiver app from the Playstore or via: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.citrix.receiver Note: The Citrix Software will automatically launch when you run the MyUHI service

Accessing Video Conferencing To access video conferencing you will need to download the Jabber Client from - http://www.uhi.ac.uk/en/lis/software-downloads/uhi_jabber48.exe You will need to login to the Jabber Client using your ID and password Note: Please contact the VC team or the VC originator for the VC call details If this does not work, please contact VC master by calling 01463 279155
