A: You can access the following: Blackboard VLE The Virtual Learning Environment' (VLE) of the University of the Highlands and Islands is Blackboard Learn a computer program that stores learning materials, assessments, tests and surveys and is the online equivalent of a classroom. Some students will do all of their learning using the VLE, others will have a blend of online learning and face to face teaching. Library Provides access to books for loan and reference, and journals, which support the courses offered, access to resources held across the network through inter-site loan (speak to your librarian), subject to local rules on borrowing, access to other university libraries MyUHI The MyUHI Citrix service provides a virtual UHI desktop on any internet connected computer. Using the MyUHI link, available from the shortcuts menu on our website. You can log into the service and access your files from any computer and you can also access a range of software applications that run across the internet - this means that you don't have to have these applications on your computer but you can still use them from any computer connected to the internet. The MyUHI service requires you to log into the service using your UHI user name and password. Dropbox UHI Drop Box provides a convenient way of sharing files with people internal and external to the University. We have introduced this service to make it easy to share large files (>25Mb) which cannot be handled by UHI Mail. Important Service Information: The purpose of this service is to transfer data and the files are NOT backed up. Users should maintain a copy of the file and carry out backups on that if required.
Office 365 Outlook email Email allows fast, inexpensive and efficient communications to take place. Messages can be sent and received regardless of geographical barriers. It allows messages to be sent and forwarded to multiple recipients without the need for retyping. Electronic documents can be distributed via the email system. Within UHI we use Office365 to provide our email service. Windows Users can disable Proxy Server as below: Open Internet Explorer but don t try to connect to anything yet. Use the Tools menu to open the Internet Options control panel. Internet Options is at the bottom of the Tools menu.
Change to the Connections tab and click on the LAN settings button near the bottom of the panel. Make sure of the following: 1. Automatically detect settings is selected 2. Use a proxy server is not selected, Click OK to go back to the Internet Options panel 3. Using Lync Messenger from Webmail When you sign into the Webmail it automatically signs you into the Lync messenger client, this allows you to instantly message other staff members or students signed into the messenger, It also allows you to see whether the person is in a meeting or away from their desk You can see the online status of your profile by clicking your name in the top right of the Webmail screen You can also see the status of people from the People screen by the colours down the left of the person s name To text chat with a person click People at the top of the webmail screen Find the person you want to chat to and check their status is either yellow or green next to their name Click the chat bubble icon to start a chat

The MyUHI service requires you to log into the service using your UHI user name and password. Who uses MyUHI? All staff and students within UHI have access to use MyUHI. Why should I use MyUHI? MyUHI provides secure remote access to applications and data. This means if you are working offsite you can still access the main UHI services and your Network Drives will be available to you as well. MyUHI can also provide faster access than from a college PC to some services, such as SITS. Using myuhi you can: Access your remote file store (your 'documents library' area and other mapped drives) Swap files between their local PC and your remote file store Use applications such as Word, Excel, SPSS, etc. running on the MyUHI not on your local PC Access your email using the Outlook client application Access library journals as if you are on campus, if available Access other internal resources while off campus e.g. intranets. You should use myuhi when you are at home and even from within the college if the PC you are working on does not have all the relevant software for your work.
