The Trajectory of Success 2 As the premier university for the visual and performing arts in the state of West Virginia, we are committed to leadership and accomplishment in innovative arts education, research, and performance. The College of Creative Arts and the Creative Arts Center that houses it have become national and international resources noted for the exchange, creative collaboration, research, publication, and presentation of the arts. Today, some 800 students study, learn, and perform in three professionally accredited and widely recognized schools within the College: Art and Design, Music, and Theatre and Dance. The Creative Arts Center, which is home to the College, contains five performance spaces as well as classrooms, computer labs, movement and ensemble labs, shops for the creation of costumes and set designs, and visual arts, ceramics, and sculpture studios. We are blessed with one of the nation s best facilities in which to teach and learn but it is in need of expansion to take advantage of the academic challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Our global and national linkages are growing rapidly, from a partnership with the Pittsburgh Symphony to international programs in China, Italy, and Brazil. Some of America s bestknown artists, historians, and critics serve as visiting scholars at the College. Throughout the curriculum, we focus on hands-on, real-world education that enables students to intern and perform professionally as they work toward rewarding careers both in and beyond the arts. We dedicate our efforts as we will dedicate the results of your generosity to what directly impacts and assists our students future successes. With that in mind, we must expand our global connections, continue to support our best and brightest (outstanding students with endowed scholarships, outstanding faculty with endowed professorships), and provide the tools, spaces, and technologies that enable our learning community to excel.
As all disciplines and all careers become more closely related and cross-pollinated through technology, creative arts education teaches innovation, resilience, cooperation, and a respect both for tradition and for breaking with tradition.

Boundless 12 Creativity is boundless, and so is an education in the creative arts. It can take a student to a specific destination: to become a graphic artist or a lighting designer or an oboe player, for example. Or it can open unknown worlds and reveal unimagined destinations. And if ever there was a future that calls for a boundless education centered on creativity, innovation, and assured performance, this is it. The College of Creative Arts is unique in combining service to students and their careers with offering entertainment and enrichment to West Virginia. This dual mission creates great responsibilities and great opportunities, and in order to answer the one and take advantage of the other, we need the power of your vision and generosity. Your gifts go directly to initiatives that have tremendous immediate benefits for our diverse group of inspired and inspiring students and faculty. The visual and performing arts in our community are strong and growing, and we need your help to continue offering the finest in arts education, research, and performance. Without that artistic vitality, the quality and pleasures of our daily lives would be much diminished. We emphasize hands-on, person-to-person education and training, and I welcome you as an integral part of that process.
