Welcome to San Diego College of Ayurveda.com Welcome Note and Student Expectations Thank you for your decision in joining us. We are very excited about educating Ayurveda, and, ancient healing and health practices. You have entered a new journey of education, and will learn about the ancient holistic way of living and health from India. This document lists your responsibility and duties, as well as those of the Training Institute. About us San Diego College of Ayurveda was founded to promote Vegetarianism, Vedic Culture, Sanskrit and provide Ayurveda Training Online and via Distant Learning, Classroom Workshops, Seminars, Consultation and Ayurvedic Treatment. Training is experiential and case based. Training delivery and methodology is blended, being Classroom, Distant and Web based. Student can pick and choose their own blend of Web Based Training and Classroom Based Training for Ayurveda courses. We also aim to provide Internship programs and 3 scholarships from 2011. The teachers both full time, and visiting include Monica Bhatia, PhD, CMT who is also pursing Masters in Ayurvedic Herbalism, Pandit Atul Krishna Ayurvedic Practitioner, Sanskrit Pundit who is pursuing a doctorate in Sanskrit Studies, and, Sri Bhagavat Maharaj, a renunciate monk who is a pundit of Ayurvedic Philosophy. Visiting lecturer include Dr. Parmela Sawhney, M.D. And yoga therapy teachers, when available. The courses are suited for newcomers with an interest in Vedic Sciences, or will complement the practices of Herbalists,Holistic Health Practitioners, Nutritionists as well as Physical Therapists or Massage Therapists. How Soon will I LEARN Ayurveda? Please note that Ayurveda is a lifelong study. It is very hard to compress a comprehensive knowledge from ancient seers into 100 hours. So, the student is expected to study, research, read text books on their own as well as the course material that is offcially under the scope of 100 hours. So, we have prepared a STUDENT expectation document. Ideally, to say you know enough about Ayurveda, it is suggested to do a minimum of 300 hour core curriculum course, according to National Ayurvedic Medical Association. They also suggest study of Samkhya, Sanskrit, Ayurvedic Anatomy, Ayurvedic Pathology, Ayurvedic Nidan and Chikitsa. Please remember Ayurveda cannot be learned or understood in a few weeks or even months. It requires commitment and dedication. It will broaden your horizons, and give you a new perspective on life, your family, friends and the world around you. It will bring abundance, health and wisdom, if you commit yourself even 4 hours a week. This course is not done as a spoon feeding format, where student reads, does assignment and gets a certifcate. We want you to 'learn' to learn about Ayurveda, so you are expected to read voraciously, research, share best practices with your peers and most important, try to follow a healthy lifestyle that includes mostly vegetarian diet, freshly grown food from farmers market, use herbs and spices that are known to help prevent certain health issues for yourself and those around you and do yoga or mediation. First we need to balance and heal ourselves, before, we start educating others! This learning and educational pact between the Training Institute and Student specifes student expectations, deliverables, Payment Plan, Refund, Educational and Lesson plans, Assessment and feedback plan, as well as internship/externship hours.
