Communication with BushingGard using computer USB port There are two ways of communication with BushingGard through computer USB port: Direct communication between computer USB port and BushingGard USB port allows for full scale communication from BushingGard software and Configurator software. BushingGard firmware can t be reprogrammed through that connection. Communication through RS485-USB adapter between computer USB port and RS485 port on BushingGard allows for all regular communications plus firmware reprogramming in BushingGard. RS485 Port USB Port 1 Direct USB to USB port communication 1.1 Install USB Driver 1. Make sure that BushingGard software is installed on your computer. 2. Do not connect USB cable to BushingGard at this time. 3. Power up BushingGard device and wait until it boots up it may take several minutes until Loading message disappears. Note: BushingGard will, likely, display an ERROR message, if there is no signal on input or BushingGard is not configured yet for an application. These messages will not affect communication to the device.
4. Connect BushingGard to your computer using supplied USB cable with A and B type connectors. Computer will detect new hardware and will request *.inf file to install a driver. Select Browse option and navigate to C:/ProgramFiles/BushingGard/USB_inf. 5. After the driver installation you can check that the device is recognized by the system by double clicking on the circled icon. 6. The following dialog should appear with Vibro-Center USB device on the list: Close the window. 7. Disconnect cable from USB port and reboot the computer! 8. After rebooting computer, plug USB cable into PC and BushingGard should be detected automatically without any special notice. Note, that if USB cable will be plugged into a different USB port on your PC, Windows will detect it as new hardware and will install new device for this port automatically. You do not need to specify a path to *.inf file in such a case. This is different from the USB- RS485 converter which requires the driver be installed every time the port is changed. 2

2.2 Install driver on your computer 1. Connect the adapter to your computer. The screen above appears. Click on No, not this time and Next button 2. Make sure Install the software automatically is selected. Then select Next button. Insert Installation CD when prompted. 3. Click Finish to complete the installation. 4. The screen will appear again. Continue with port installation same way as above in step 1-3 If got that message click Continue Anyway 5
5. Check created Virtual ComPort # in the system by clicking on Control Panel / System / Device Manager / Ports (COM & LPT). Use this COM port number in BushingGard s software setting. 3 Troubleshooting Problems? No communication? 1) Check wiring. Use electrical drawing enclosed with the BushingGard. 2) Check Com Port #, ModBus address and Baud Rate settings in the software and BushingGard. Refer to Software Manuals if necessary. 3) For USB-RS485 converter, different USB port on computer used: Use the same USB port in a computer if possible. If not uninstall RS-485 port from Control Panel and repeat driver installation. 4) Different USB to RS485 converter used: Uninstall RS-485 port and repeat installation. Repeating installation without uninstalling will unnecessary multiply RS485 ports. 5) Paralleling with Ethernet to RS485 converter: Disconnect Ethernet to RS485 converter or remove jumpers on Ethernet to RS485 converter. 6
