Have you ever thought of getting an additional degree in engineering (say Civil) even without attending any regular college classes? This is possible through AMIE. Please read below for its details. The procedure is very simple. Who is eligible? Kottayam Before you read further, it is to be mentioned that, this scheme is applicable only for B.Tech/B.E (or higher) holders from recognized university, (no mark restriction). So, if you are not an engineering graduate, please stop reading because it is not for you! The IEI Heard of IEI? The Institution of Engineers (India) Kolkata, is the largest professional body of engineers in India. The official website if IEI is www.ieindia.org. The IEI started non-formal engineering education programme in 1928. It has been established to promote and advance the science, practice and business of engineering. It is the authority that prepares syllabus, conducts examination and issue certificates etc. of AMIE. Jyothis Academy is not an agency but a coaching center for AMIE exam. Apart from regular and postal coaching, we help students community in arranging AMIE admission. What is AMIE? AMIE is the only way through which one can study engineering in the distance education mode and get a Recognized Engineering Degree. AMIE stands for Associate Member of Institution of Engineers. It is membership or professional status conferred by the IEI. The membership is given on the basis of one s academics. B.Tech holders are eligible to get this membership (called AM membership or AMIE). They will get AM membership in the same branch of their B.Tech.

3 But, if they want AM Membership in different branch of engineering, they have to sit for AMIE Section B examination. It is a degree level examination in engineering conducted by the IEI. That means, AMIE holders will get equal opportunities for job as well as higher education, just like a B.E or B.Tech holder. Recognition The AMIE is recognized in India an abroad as equivalent to B.Tech/B.E by PSC, UPSC Govt. of India All State Govt. in India AICTE etc. Anyone who holds AMIE will be considered as a B.Tech or B.E holder in the branch of engineering concerned. Hence, once who completes AMIE can try for job in either Govt. or private sector just like any other B.E or B.Tech graduate. He can enjoy all benefits of other graduate engineers. After AMIE, you are eligible for GATE examination and can go for any higher studies. Two Choices. A B.Tech holder has two choices. 1. Get AMIE in the same branch of your B.Tech/B.E 2. Get AMIE in additional branch. If you choose the first category, then you don t need to write any examination. For example, suppose you are a B.Tech holder in Civil Engineering, you can get AMIE in Civil Engineering without writing any examination. You will just have to apply for membership with specified fees. But if you would like to get AMIE in an engineering branch other than your B.Tech, then you have to clear certain number of (say 9) subjects in Section B examination of AMIE. Whatever may be your choice, first your must register for AM membership. The application form for which is attached herewith.

Attested copy of B.Tech/B.E final pass (provisional) certificate. 2. Attested copy of final year marklist of B.Tech/B.E 3. Attested copy of your Secondary School certificate (showing your date of birth) 4. Two passport size photograph to be pasted on application form 5. Fee details Membership The services and benefits of IEI is offered only to its members. Hence in order to appear for AMIE examination, one has to become a member of IEI. This membership is called AM membership. Anyone who got membership becomes eligible for appearing AMIE examination. The membership/admission/enrollment is given to ALL who meet the stipulated eligibility criteria.

5 B.Tech/B.E holders can apply for AM membership. SYLLABUS- Section B After getting your AM membership, you may now choose a desired branch of engineering from the below list and apply for Section B registration. The syllabus of AMIE examination is more or less similar to B.E/B.Tech. Following are the engineering branches available. 1. Electronics and communication Engineering 2. Electrical Engineering 3. Computer Science and Engineering 4. Civil Engineering 5. Mechanical Engineering 6. Production Engineering 7. Chemical Engineering 8. Materials and Metallurgical Engineering 9. Mining Engineering 10. Production Engineering 11. Textile Engineering Of the above 11 engineering branches available, a student can choose ANY branch as he wishes. This is one of the attractions of AMIE. For example, a student studied B.Tech Automobile can choose Computer Science or Electronics etc in AMIE Section B!!!! There are 9 subjects in Section B. Of this 9 subjects, 6 are compulsory and 3 are optional. In order to impart practical knowledge, the Institution of Engineers has included project work and lab experiments as part of section B syllabus. The project work may be done in the same firm/company where the student is presently engaged in. For doing laboratory experiment, the Institution of Engineers will contact the authorities of some engineering college/similar technical institution nearest to the location of the student and make necessary arrangement. DURATION Another feature of AMIE is its flexibility in completion time. Apart from conventional courses, the AMIE doesn t have a fixed completion time. However 6 years are available for clearing all subjects in Section B.

6 EXAMINATION AMIE examinations are conducted in every June and December. The examination is written-type and is of 3 hour duration: No laboratory exam; No internal assessment; No Viva. The examinations are conducted in all major cities in India and Gulf Countries. Those who want to take AMIE in a branch other than their B.Tech-branch must appear for AMIE Section B examination in that branch of engineering. There are 9 subjects. The syllabus can be downloaded from www.amieindia.in. How to Study The IEI doesn t take any responsibility for teaching you!. The IEI will conduct examination and will issue certificates that s all. Students must find their own way to study the subject to prepare well for examination. Since AMIE is a degree level examination, a peripheral knowledge on the subject will not be sufficient for scoring pass mark in the exam. 8 INSTRUCTIONS In order to process your application form correctly pleases follow the instructions. 1. Get a print out of this brochure, including the two application forms. 2. Of the two application forms, one is for Jyothis Academy; the other is for AM Registration. 3. Fill up Both application forms attached. 4. Paste your 2 passport size photographs. 5. Put signatures wherever needed (at 3 places). 6. Attach attested copies of following certificates (a) Matriculation/Secondary (to prove your age) (b) Mark sheet of final semester B.Tech/B.E exam. (c) Final Pass/Provisional Certificate of B.tech/B.E. 7. Copies of certificates mentioned in (a), (b), and (c) must be attested by a Gazetted officer. 8. Students submitting Certificates which are not recognized by the Council of Institution of Engineers (India) are liable to disqualify for membership registration. 9. Once your application reached we will check for corrections if any, and will forward the same to IEI Kolkata.. 10. Acknowledgement will reach you within 2 weeks.
