POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Classification & Grade EBA Accountabilities and Supervisory Responsibilities Occupational Health & Safety Coordinator Management and Administrative Staff classification based on skill and experience of candidate Victorian Public Health Sector (Health Professionals, Health and Allied Services, Managers & Administrative Officers) Enterprise Agreement 2011-2015 Report to: Director of Corporate Services Supervisory responsibilities: Nil About Kerang District Health Kerang District Health is a small rural health service offering a broad range of acute medical, obstetric, oncology, and surgical services which include general surgery, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, gynaecology and urology services. The health service also provides residential aged care accommodation and community services which include district nursing, the WD Thomas Activity Centre and Men s shed. The organisation has provided health care to residents of the Gannawarra Shire Council area for over 60 years. Position Objective To coordinate Kerang District Health s Occupational Health & Safety program in consultation with management, Health & Safety representatives and staff.

To ensure compliance by Kerang District Health with all legislative requirements pertaining to Occupational Health and Safety. To coordinate the environmental sustainability (including waste management) program for Kerang District Health. Working Relationships Internal Executive Management Department Heads Maintenance Department Health & Safety Representatives KDH employees External Victorian Workcover authority (Worksafe) Regional OHS network OHS training providers External Medical practitioners Key Result Areas Objectives Key Result Areas KRA 1 Core Tasks Responsibilities Major Tasks Oversee the implementation of the organisation s Occupational Health and Safety program with the input of elected Health and Safety representatives, Executive Management, Department Heads and staff Ensure at all times that the organisation is compliant with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and related legislation. With the assistance of Health and Safety representatives, perform OH & S audits and other functions as determined necessary. Manage and conduct the investigation of reported incidents and hazards. In consultation with management, oversee and arrange OH & S training as determined appropriate for the organisations obligations. Participate in the implementation and delivery of the organisation s staff training and development program in relation to Occupational Health and Safety matters. Participate in the collection, registering, monitoring and investigation of all adverse events including hazard and accident reports and report to management and staff via the Management, Quality and Risk committee. Conduct or assist with the conduct of risk assessments for identified workplace risks, including those arising from adverse events reports, manual handling issues or any other OH & S issues. Manage, monitor and report on environmental sustainability and waste management program as required. Perform other duties and tasks as required/directed. Key Performance Indicators Ensure compliance to delivery of Occupational Health and Safety program to meet the requirements of the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards and the Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency. Completion of annual Personal Development Program Completing of Mandatory Training requirements Completion of legislative reporting compliance pertaining to OH & S and other relevant matters. Participation in and familiarisation of KDH s Risk Management Program. Attendance at Management, Quality and Risk meeting, Operational, Quality and Risk Meeting, Staff Information forums. Collate statistical information to report to Executive management and applicable committees. Keep abreast of the latest developments in Occupational Health and Safety in terms of legislative requirements and best practice. Report on achievements in the areas of environmental sustainability and waste management in accordance with legislative requirements.

KRA 2 Administration Major Tasks KRA 3 Client Service (internal and/or external) KRA 3 Team Work OR Leadership (if manager) KRA 4 Quality KRA 5 OH&S Prepare and monitor the Kerang District Health Occupational Health and Safety Plan on an annual basis. Facilitate the organisation, conduct and record keeping of any meetings conducted for the purpose of addressing Occupational Health and Safety issues at Kerang District Health, including advising appropriate Health and Safety representatives and employees of such meetings. Revise and update the KDH Occupational Health and Safety Manual on a regular and systematic basis Ensure the organisations Occupational Health and Safety polices are reviewed on an annual basis Collate and present on a regular basis, agreed OH & S performance indicators to the Management, Quality and Risk Committee, and other staff groups or sub-committees as considered appropriate or requested. Liaise with officers from the Victorian Workcover Authority (Worksafe) in relation to worksite inspections, and any other improvement notices or other matters detailed in Entry Reports. Ensure that all WorkSafe reportable incidents are reported within required timeframes Represent Kerang District Health at regional OH & S meetings as needed Assist Occupational Health and Safety representatives with workplace audits Assist with the delivery of Staff Training, including Personal Development, as required. Participates and has an understanding about activities and maintaining the accreditation standards to ensure KDH is at all times compliant. Understand, contribute or participate in Continuous Improvement activities display a willingness to work towards continuous improvement. Observance and compliance of OHS legislation Demonstrates knowledge and work practices in all hospital infection control policies and procedures. Identify and work to find solutions for manual handling hazards and risks to personal safety Assess related risks and follow risk management procedures Report Risks and if required, conduct risk Annual completion of Occupational Health and Safety Action Plan objectives/targets Report on the progress towards achievement of the objectives of the plan to the Management, Quality and Risk Committee on a quarterly basis Ongoing reporting of Occupational Health and Safety indicators and data Demonstrated transparency with all stakeholders. WorkSafe reportable incidents are reported and investigated by relevant staff and WorkSafe investigators within legislated timeframes. Provide Training for Professional Development Days in OH & S requirements, and other related areas as determined/required. Evidence of participation in a group or individual quality activity. Adopts and encourages a continuous improvement approach to service delivery. Policy and procedure are complied with. Incidents/Accidents and hazards are reported correctly as per policy and OHS legislation. Aware and vigilant at all times regarding duty of care to own self, patients/residents and other colleagues. Completes Annual Fire and Evacuation Training Is an active member of the OH

Knowledge of continuous improvement and accreditation programs covered by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards and Aged Care Accreditation Agency, pertaining to Occupational Health and Safety. Experience and / or qualifications Completion of approved OHS Training program/course minimum 5 day OHS Course within the last 5 years. Relevant practical experience in a similar role Current Victorian Drivers Licence Desirable: Formal Occupational Health and Safety qualifications. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment Special Requirements Ability to work flexible hours to meet work demands.
