Industry Training Updates Enrolments are no longer accepted in CHC30712 Certificate III in Children s Services. This has been replaced with CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. Status is currently applying to ASQA for this qualification to be added to our scope of registration and development will commence in the near future. This qualification is also the first full qualification we will be reviewing under the new streamlined training package requirements. If you are not yet familiar with the new format of training packages I encourage you to review the CHC30113 package or Click here for a refresher on these changes TAE40110 update. This unit replaces and is deemed equivalent to TAELLN401AAdress Adult language, literacy and numeracy. The TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment has been reviewed and is expected to be endorsed as a new training qualification this year.(tae40114) Innovation and Business Skills Australia (IBSA) have put forward a revised TAE40110 qualification for endorsement. The revision includes the addition of TAELLN411 Address adult language, literacy and numeracy skills as a core unit and if endorsed will result in a new version of the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment qualification more than likely it will be TAE40114. L:\RTO\Training Services Newsletters\Training Services Newsletter Winter 2014 Issue 3.docx PAGE 3 RTO News In March 2014 Status underwent an ASQA strategic audit for the Certificate III in Children s Services. While the audit day was quite successful and we received very positive feedback about our operations as an RTO, Status was found to be non-compliant in 4 key areas. These non-compliances were; Insufficient skills assessment checklists. While we undertake assessments our recording in this area required improvement. Decision making criteria required for assessor marking guides. Clearer decision making rules were required in addition to suggested answers. Trainer qualifications while ASQA agreed that our trainers were suitable we had failed to adequately document the VOCATIONAL CURRENCY and COMPETENCY of our trainers and assessors. Industry engagement in clients learning. A specific agreement detailing prior knowledge of clients was required to inform industry of current skills and knowledge. We were given 20 days to resubmit evidence to demonstrate compliance. This was achieved and our audit result was updated to compliant. During this audit we internally identified areas of non-compliance across all qualifications that needed immediate action. This corrective action had to be completed by the 11 th of June as we were scheduled to undertake a Reregistration audit on the 11th and 12 th of June. A dedicated team of staff were allocated the job to have all training and assessment materials reviewed and made compliant by this date. Many hours of hard work was put into the audit preparation and correction of non-compliances. All the hard work paid off and after a grueling 2 day audit we were found to be compliant in all areas. There were a few grey areas but the professionalism, skills and knowledge of the audit team demonstrated immediate rectification and the auditor was able to accept our changes and result us as compliant. The Audit team consisted of the following staff: Manager RTO Services: Tarsha Franklin, RTO Delivery and Assessment Coordinator: Deb Schneider, Aged Care Trainer: Karen Barnes, TAE Trainer; Adella Bucsai, EAL Trainer; Geoff Lawrence, Retail and Business Trainer; Wendy Krantis. Thank you for your hard work and dedication in preparation and participation in the audit. What next? The RTO will continue to work on improvement opportunities identified during audit and maintaining our compliant status. However, the RTO standards have been revised and new standards are currently out for public consultation. It is possible a new set of RTO standards will be released and implemented as early as January 1, 2015. This will require a significant amount of work to transition the RTO from the old standards to the new. The proposed standards contain a significant amount of change from the current standards. The proposed standards can be accessed from here. News from Human Resources Staffing: We are pleased to introduce several new staff. L:\RTO\Training Services Newsletters\Training Services Newsletter Winter 2014 Issue 3.docx PAGE 5 A Good News Story Today, in class we had a special reason to celebrate. Namely, we celebrated Sarah s success as a learner. We are very proud of Sarah! From her studies in Certificate I in Education and Skills Development at Status, Sarah s confidence and self-esteem as a learner have improved immensely, and Sarah has now decided to go on to further study once she completes her training with Status. She has made the decision to return to school so that she leads by example for her three young daughters. She wishes to complete her studies so that her children will also go on to complete their schooling successfully. Sarah has enrolled in an adult re-entry program to complete her HSC Year 12 Matriculation at Christies Beach High School in the Supportive Adult Independent Learning (SAIL) Program. This program has been designed specifically and exclusively for adult learners and offers a pathway to SACE completion for entry to VET courses or Foundation Studies courses at Flinders University or University of South Australia. Students can also choose to study some ATAR courses and transfer to mainstream if they decide to change their focus. We wish Sarah all the best in her future studies, and have confidence in her that she will succeed and achieve her dream.
